Watched it as a kid and suffered from every second of it

The animation is despicable and shouldn't have been allowed to be published in 2006. The script and dialogue are awkward. The entire movie falls under the category of the "uncanny valley".

Not bad, but who's the audience?

The movie starts by introducing Puck, who has an oddly mechanical- sounding laugh and a rather ugly face. Maybe children find him charming, or maybe the decision was made that Puck doesn't have to be charming, but I think an opportunity was lost there to engage the audience through Puck the way Shakespeare is usually thought to have intended. The plot does have a little to do with Shakespeare's comedy, but it's mostly the characters who have been borrowed, along with a touch of Don Quixote and the witches from Macbeth. I saw the movie in Hebrew, where the title is simply "A Midsummer Night's Dream," just like Shakespeare, but I understand there's an intentional alteration of the title in Spanish and in English to go with the major script difference. Shakespeare's story has been largely replaced by the familiar device of a quest with the characters (including the bad guy who's along for his own evil reasons) interacting along the way. The witches and a handful of glowing fairies are, like Puck, lost opportunities for interesting visualization, but the villain is well conceived and original-looking, as are Oberon and Mustardseed. There are also some animated musical instruments that appear now and then but are gone again before much attention can be paid. The music itself is quite entertaining throughout the movie. But while some opportunities to entertain children are lost, the script doesn't rise to the level that would firmly hold the interest of adults, so I get the feeling that the effort-- and it's obviously not a small effort-- is lost somewhere between the two audiences.

lack of script, poor animation, non-funny jokes....

the audience is accustomed to a very much higher quality in the animation contemporary movies (an episode of digital animation series Jimmy Newtron is much better of that Spanish animation movie); but lack of good animation is just a little defect that could be forgiven by an intelligent film-lover IF it is held by a good story correctly told... and that is what fails here: topics took from another movies, bad characters, not a good story behind it...

is a pity... the before film of that author, "EL BOSQUE ANIMADO", an adaptation of a classic of the Spanish literature, were a average movie that deserves to be watched... this time, that director failed indeed.

a good thing in the movie? the voices of the characters: are excellent actors... they are the persons that usually dub The Simpsons into Spanish: Juan Perucho, Sara Vivas, Carlos Ysbert...

a pity. i expected a lot of more of that Spanish film...

PS.- I cant understand that high rating of IMDb members to that movie... (5.7 when I'm writing this!) perhaps many people that made the movie registered here and voted "10" ... is the only explanation i have for that. :P

fun, well made, but a little childish

This is a Spanish and Portuguese production that as a remarkable quality and will take the audience to a world of dreams, with inspiration in Midnight Summer Dream, of Shakespeare. Although it as quality, it is very much guided to children. The characters are funny and have a mission to find and believe in the world of magic, where once humans and magic people lived in harmony. The story is simple and effective. But it's no Shrek.

A nice try for an European animation movie. The is some examples of good animation movies from Europe, although the creative as to prevail, because the financial capability is very slim. This film as a 6.5 million euros budget.

        Worth watching

"El sueño de una noche de San Juan" seems a rather nice adaptation of Shakespeare's "a summers night's dream". The computerised 3D render has nothing to envy to big Hollywood productions and the character designs looks quiet nice. Entertaining from beginning to end, and enjoyable for childs and adults alike. Captivising the child's attention from the beginning and takes them to this sweet story with humour, romance and action. It is an ideal way way to bring classic literature to childs, with the author's essence but with a funny touch.Let your self go into this world of adventure and discover the child in you.Good animation, nice settings and well told. My Kids loved it and anyone I know that saw it too. Worth watching it.
