Ben Stiller is set to direct “Bag Man,” a big-screen adaptation of Rachel Maddow’s hit podcast. The film is being developed at Focus Features.
In addition to directing duties, Stiller is also co-writing the script with Adam Perlman and Mike Yarvitz. The latter executive produced the podcast, which debuted in 2018, and later penned the book with Maddow.
The cast has not been announced.
Based on one of the most brazen political bribery scandals in American History, “Bag Man” centers on the 1973 political scandal surrounding Richard Nixon’s vice president Spiro Agnew, who quietly ran a bribery and extortion ring while nobody was paying attention. The improbable story asks: Is it possible for an American Vice President to carry out a criminal enterprise inside the White House and have nobody remember?

Ben Stiller is set to direct “Bag Man,” based on a podcast by MSNBC host Rachel Maddow, that Focus Features is developing as a feature film.
“Bag Man” is the true story of one of the most brazen political bribery scandals in American history involving Richard Nixon’s vice president Spiro Agnew during the height of the Watergate scandal.
The podcast and an additional book also called “Bag Man” written by Maddow and Michael Yarvitz posits whether it was possible for an American vice president to carry out a criminal enterprise inside the White House and have nobody remember or notice.
Adam Perlman wrote the script along with Ben Stiller and Yarvitz, who executive produced the podcast and co-wrote the subsequent book with Maddow. No casting has been announced.

Mohamedou Ould Slahi is a Muslim Mauritanian who was arrested in November 2001 under the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Terrorist act which was implemented a week after 9/11. U.S. government authorities alleged he was involved with al Qaeda and may have even recruited the hijackers who flew the planes into the World Trade Center. Slahi was sent to Guantanamo Bay detention center in 2002 where he remained without being charged until 2016.
He did confess after extreme torture, including sleep deprivation, beatings and even sexual humiliation. One time he was blindfolded, tossed into a boat and taken out to sea where he was led to believe he was going to be executed. But because the torture led to his confession, it was considered inadmissible under U.S and international law. During his incarceration, he wrote the 2015 best-selling memoir “Guantanamo Diary,” which was smuggled out of Gitmo. Ironically, he wasn’t allowed...

Jane Asher is as well-known for acting as she is for dating an ex-Beatle, and in 1964 she brought Swinging London to the canteen of Roger Corman’s The Masque of the Red Death.
Based on the gothic short story “The Mask of the Red Death: A Fantasy,” the film remains the most ambitious installment in Corman’s Edgar Allen Poe cycle of movies, contrasting the bleak landscape of a dying village with the psychological torment of six rooms of color, and one with no color at all, just a deep black with a blood red crimson glow cast on it. Vincent Price stars as the sadistic and satanic Prince Prospero, whose darkness reigns over his dominions.
Price wouldn’t be this malignant again until 1968’s Witchfinder General, which was retitled The Conqueror Worm, even though it had nothing to do with the Poe story. In Masque, he throws decadent orgies...

There’s no denying that Jason Statham has found a very comfortable niche for himself in Hollywood, and the mere presence of his name in any movie is often enough to let audiences know exactly what they’re going to get. That’s hardly a bad thing, though, because he’s been established as one of cinema’s premiere action heroes for close to 20 years now, even if there is a sense of over-familiarity running through his work.
If you can’t remember the monikers of his specific projects, then it becomes increasingly difficult to pick them out of a lineup. Ask someone to guess the Jason Statham action thriller you’re thinking of with either a one-word title, or two words but one of them has to be ‘the’, where he plays a no-nonsense badass with either a military or law enforcement background who gets pulled back into the...

Adam Sandler and Ben Stiller have been in each other’s orbit for three decades without working together in any sort of meaningful capacity, which seems strange given their very similar career paths. Stiller was hired as a writer and performer on Saturday Night Live in 1989 but left after just four episodes, a year before Sandler became a regular fixture on the show.
Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, both actors became two of the most popular and bankable comedy stars in Hollywood after headlining a succession of box office hits, but they only crossed paths when Stiller made an uncredited cameo in Happy Gilmore, and he reprised his brief role as Hal L. a quarter of a century later in the opening scene of Hubie Halloween, although they did play estranged half brothers in forgotten 2017 dramedy The Meyerowitz Stories.

Oscar Isaac is in talks to play Marc Spector, the lead superhero on upcoming Disney Plus show “Moon Knight,” according to an individual with knowledge of the project.
Moon Knight is a fascinating character, because while on the surface he comes off like Marvel’s attempt to rip off Batman, his powers are actually magical, weird mystical abilities tied either to an ancient Egyptian god and the moon — or to his fractured psyche. More on that in a moment.
Created by writer Doug Moench and artist Don Perlin in 1975, Moon Knight debuted in Marvel’s “Werewolf by Night,” where he’s introduced hunting the title character before teaming up with him instead (the two have generally been allies ever since). Moon Knight’s story goes like this: his real name is Marc Spector, and he’s the Jewish son of a rabbi who fled to the United States from Czechoslovakia during World War II.

KollywoodFrom Vivek teaching us the meaning of “Awas Anjing” in Malaysia to Yogi Babu playing a hacker in London, here are some hilarious scenes set in foreign lands.Anjana ShekarWe’ve seen Vadivelu as ‘Vakkil' Vandumurugan getting exasperated when his opponent cuts him off mid-sentence during a hearing in court: “I am speaking, no cross speaking. Sit down please!” he roars in one breath and we’re barely able to contain our laughter. But what happens when ‘Vaigai puyal’ Vadivelu plays an advocate in London? Well, we’ve seen that too…only you may not recall the “London” part too well. In the 2005 film London (that was surely shot in Chennai), Vadivelu as Advocate Vedimuthu lives and practises law in London. But, many of our stars have indeed flown to other countries to give us some memorable comedy. One of the earliest references is actor Nagesh playing a bearer at...

Abuse is a hard subject to talk about, let alone put into words, and filmmakers who choose to tell these stories always have a struggle. How much of the incidents do you show, how much should be made of the suffering that the victims of domestic violence experience before and after their experiences, how do you thread the line between being honest and being cruel? Many great directors and writers have made exploitative films about physical violence in relationships, showcasing their protagonists on an endless odyssey of emotional torment following the end of their situation, even with good intentions behind their depictions. It’s not easy to do justice to something that’s still so stigmatized to discuss in public.
That’s a big reason why the overwhelming majority of Herself, the latest film from Mamma Mia! director Phyllida Lloyd, is so commendable. For most of the 97-minute runtime, Lloyd...

Well-versed veteran of the comedy scene, Josh Ruben makes his directorial feature film debut here, with Scare Me, a Shudder Original, that aims to blend comedy and horror in a new way. Something fresh in a sub-genre that is well-trodden is always intriguing, and it isn’t easy to do, not in an age where it’s fairly rare to avoid walking the same steps and tropes that others have walked before.
Scare Me is something of a stage-play on screen, really. It has a small cast of only four characters, with two of them being the bulk of the film. Fred (Ruben) and Fanny (Aya Cash) are strangers who run into each other whilst renting cabins in the middle of nowhere in order to both focus on writing projects. Fanny is a best-selling and...

London, Oct 9 (Ians) The England and Wales Cricket Board (Ecb) on Friday confirmed the names of first 18 players to take part in The Hundred, with England batsman Ollie Pope one of the first players to move teams.

Oscar Isaac and Jake Gyllenhaal are set to play Francis Ford Coppola and producer Robert Evans in a film directed by Barry Levinson about the making of Coppola’s 1972 masterpiece “The Godfather.”

With the state of things these days, Fantastic Fest has gone virtual for 2020, and here are my thoughts on two of the films that helped kick off the festivities this week: Teddy, from the directing duo of Ludovic and Zoran Boukherma, and Girl, which features both Bella Thorne and Mickey Rourke.
Teddy: As someone who has a deep love for anything lycanthrope-related, I really enjoyed what Ludovic and Zoran Boukherma were able to do with Teddy. The film hits all the beats you’d expect from a coming-of-age werewolf story, but the directors come at these tropes in a very unique way, making Teddy a thoughtful and heartfelt examination of a young man who has lost his place in this world that also delivers up some gnarly body horror moments and a sizeable body count to boot.
The film follows the titular character (played by Anthony Bajon) who lives in a remote village in France.

I’d never heard of this gem of a British production; now it goes on my list of highly recommended titles. A dock area on the Thames is ‘the pool,’ and the sailors that disembark from the cargo ships are susceptible to the temptations of black market trade. A single eventful weekend traces the fates of a half-dozen young people, the women that like the sailors, and the sailor that gets mixed up in a deadly serious crime. Director Basil Dearden’s excellent cast is mostly unfamiliar to us Yanks, but we get really tied up in their problems. This picture should be much better known. It’s the first English movie to depict an interracial romance, and it does so without sensationalism or special pleading. The best new extra is an interview with actor Earl Cameron, who at 103 years of age has his act (and his memories) totally together.

After an audio clip exposed Amber Heard for physically abusing her ex-husband Johnny Depp, the actress has once again reiterated that she was the victim in their relationship.
After losing much of his fortune in the controversial court battle with his former wife, Depp recently filed a $50 million defamation lawsuit against the Aquaman 2 star to set things straight. As a result, the actor’s attorneys presented several pieces of evidence that exposed Heard for physically and emotionally harassing her husband. Consequently, Heard came under a lot of fire for her hypocritical stance in this public feud and legions of fans asked for justice by kickstarting an online petition for WB to remove her from the sequel to Aquaman.
It would appear, though, that the London Fields actress isn’t going down without a fight. In a recent declaration to dismiss the defamation lawsuit, Heard has claimed that she only got...

Where his characters are outrageous and inappropriate, Berry is circumspect and gentlemanly. Like they command at the beginning of their live performance of the song, the bouncy track is an ode to flipping the bird, or in other words embracing an Idgaf attitude as the chorus relays. “We don’t give no fuck/Out in public, and we run shit,” the rappers proclaim in between their respective verses. “I got too many diamonds on, I look awesome.

Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and writer-director Lana Wachowski have officially returned to “The Matrix,” 17 years after saying goodbye to the franchise in the polarizing last entry of the original trilogy “The Matrix Revolutions.” The San Francisco Examiner spotted the Warner Bros. production kicking off filming in the Chinatown section of the Bay Area with stars Reeves and Moss. The actors are returning to their iconic roles of Neo and Trinity, but “Matrix” fans would hardly know that from the first batch of set photos and video from the Examiner. Reeves’ Neo is not looking anything like the cyber-warrior fans adore (the character’s trademark black sunglasses and clothing are missing). Instead, Neo just looks like Reeves stepped out to grab a coffee. Most “Matrix” fans probably wouldn’t expect to see Neo sporting a beanie and blue jeans. What does that mean for “Matrix 4”? Bong Joon-ho’s “Parasite” continued its run of top critics’ honors this season, scooping the Film of the Year and Director of the Year awards at the London Film Critics’ Circle kudos ceremony this evening. [Note: With the film now out on deman, here's a reposting of our review of A Serial Kiler’s Guide To Life, from the films screening at last years London Frightfest]
British comedy horror has taken many forms. From the Abominable Dr. Phibes to Shaun of the Dead to The Cottage. All very different but all equally funny and A Serial Killer’s Guide To Life is another unique horror comedy that feels at home with a lot of recent films and shows from the U.K.
Lou’s life is going nowhere. Working a minimum wage nothing job and living at home with her mum who she also (kind of) looks after. Looking for some direction in her life she searches for a life coach and happens upon Val. A life coach who is looking to take someone on a self help road trip across England and Lou is desperate enough to hop along for the ride.

From zombie comic books to a little TV adaptation called The Walking Dead (you may have heard of it), the name Robert Kirkman has become sort of synonymous with horror over the last few years. Now, it appears he’s moving on from his take on the shambling corpse and onto his own interpretation of werewolves: An American Werewolf In London, to be precise.
A recent report from Variety says Kirkman is being eyed up to produce a reboot of the classic werewolf horror flick, as well as being hired as a producer for an up-and-coming Dracula-inspired monster movie, which was pitched by Kirkman. According to the outlet:
Best known as the creator of “The Walking Dead” comics, Kirkman has been sought out on the producing front for more horror IP that includes a reboot for “An American Werewolf in London.”
