A Waggin' Tale

When her unseen brother ships Mrs. Carter Dehaven her dog, the animal infuriates Mr. Dehaven. This sends the Mrs. and doggie scurrying back home to mother. What no one knows -- except the audience -- is that her mother's battling neighbors have an identical dog, which causes a lot of confusion in both marriages.

Mr. and Mrs. Haven -- parents of the better remembered Gloria Dehaven -- appeared in a series of short subjects and a few features from 1917 through 1923. They ably combined situational comedy and more typical of the era, slapstick gags. One of the dogs is Pal, a Boston Terrier that later went on to play in Century Comedies. The other one is a bit harder to identify.
