How Does Anyone Get Old?

I came across this short film online and was intrigued by the storyline -- four friends searching for their dead friend, and no one will them where she is.

Although the film doesn't really answer a lot of the questions it raises, the performances really draw you in. The four main characters are on a quest to find their friend -- and maybe to find themselves too. I was particularly taken by Gene (Gregg Rainwater), who seems to be the one taking the search most seriously.

It's too bad that there aren't more avenues to find short films like this!

A stunning enigma about friends and loss and grief. Existential hope (ironic, eh?)and the earnest search for answers. A human quest for understanding. The acting is true; the characters real. Where have we gone? How do we find them and ourselves? The struggle of youth but really the struggle of all. The cinematography is stunning, especially for a student film. Mitchell has examined our dark fear of the unknown. How do we live with the angst? The unknown so much more painful than the known. Simple answers that should be realized that are withheld or hidden. How do we live in such a world when even death is not obvious, when we cannot find a calming place within ourselves or others.

I saw this thanks to my friend having shot a renegade video. She shoot the film at the Palm Springs International Shorts Festival. I am glad she did. The film was AMAZING! I loved it. It was gorgeous to look at: the tones of color, even on crappy video. The film felt like a European film combined with an American sensibility. I liked the way it moved. The performances were killer too. A young Mark Ruffalo. WOW! I really felt that these four had been friends forever. I also liked the sensuality of the blonde woman, Marianne. She was super sexy in a real way and that was refreshing. I liked the writing as well. Snappy and funny conversations. The whole film felt very real to me, emotionally real. See it!!
