This followup to BAMBI MEETS GODZILLA was made by a different film maker three decades later. Like the original film, this one is very, very short and very simply done. However, unlike the simple black and white line drawings of the original, this one uses computer generated graphics--very, very poor graphics for 1999. While at this point CGI was still somewhat new, the very blocky and unrealistic graphics for this film make it very ugly viewing--even for 1999. As for the story, it's funny--but hardly enough to make this a must-see. Overall, you could do worse with 2 minutes of your life...but you could also do much better than this rematch of Bambi's son and his father's murderer.
The first one was funny and had the outcome one would expect if Bambi were in fact to meet Godzilla. This one looked terrible, like a video game made by amateurs or something and the outcome was rather stupid. Not much to say about it without spoiling it only that for some reason Godzilla seems to be blind and not able to hit Bambi while in the original it looked quite frankly as if he was not really aiming for Bambi, but merely stepped on him because he was so much larger. This Godzilla leg also looked rather bad, more like the appendage of the awful American Godzilla. So this little sequel to me is pointless and should have never been made, I am guessing the ones behind the original had nothing to do with this one and this was made as part of some homework assignment in someone's computer lab class. Hopefully, they failed because this little short failed on so many levels with me.
Bambi's Revenge, except for revenge, I prefer the original, for its simplicity and texture... Regular... Bambi's Revenge, except for revenge, I prefer the original, for its simplicity and texture...
Son of Bambi Meets Godzilla (1999)
*** (out of 4)
Thirty years after the mean Godzilla killed Bambi, the deer's son has revenge on his mind. The deer is out eating his grass when the big lizard shows up but Bambi isn't scared. This short doesn't work nearly as well as the original but there's still plenty of laughs here. The computer animation is a tad bit on the rough side but that makes the film just as enjoyable. The meeting between the two is very little but, as with the original, that's why it works so well.
Check out the original film first.
