    A rare and unusual gem

Actually, I quite don't know what to think of this little film made far from Hollywood - in Carolina - and directed by a totally unknown female film maker. I know there are many of those lost and totally unknown features made all over the US. This one is not unforgettable, but it is always interesting to Watch them. The director seemed to be the head master of the company which produced this film. All her films also seem to be totally unknown. It's no fair, because this one is not a corny film, not at all. On the contrary. It speaks of the civil war between the states in an unusual way. The action sequences, final battle with many figurants and filmed in a very outstanding way, for a non Hollywood production, in terrific. The actual historical details are shown here, for example the barefeet Confederat soldiers.

The actors are not unconvincing as you may think in the first place. Anyway, these actors are more convincing than the ones used in Herschell Gordon Lewis's movies, for instance.

An awesome good surprise for me this little movie, that I highly recommend.

I hope this will be watched by other audiences.

    • Trivia
Student Tim Rogers was an extra in Red Runs the River and blew off a finger in a stage gun mishap. Concerned for his injury on her set, director Katherine Stenholm visited him in the hospital. He later became a writer for several of her films and ultimately took over as director of Unusual Films when she retired.
