First of all, I gotta say the "football" I'm talking about is what Americans call "soccer". The whole world, however, name the most popular sport in the world, "football". Anyway, this is about "football", as the planet knows it. Edson Arantes do Nascimento, or just Pelé, was the best player the world has always known. He's also considered the athlete of the century. Many people believe he's the most famous person in the world. But we don't need to discuss it, what we must know is how good he was. Everybody who saw him playing says he was some kind of genius. He could invent plays as no other player ever could. In this documentary, we, people who couldn't see him in his professional days (1957 - 1974), have the chance to see what they missed. Pelé is still a famous person in Brazil, where he lives (he's 64 years old now). We still see him on TV very often, and his talent survives time thanks to lots of images saved in documentaries like this one.

Soccer is probably the most loved sport in the planet (except in the U.S.), and people are always discussing who is, or was, the greatest soccer player of all time. Well, if you watch this movie your doubts will go away. Pelé is the definition of a sports genius, and his feats didn't get all the publicity they deserved because there were no global media as today. This documentary tries to fix this glitch. Anibal Massaini Neto, the film's director, did extensive research for more than 3 years to gather as much information as possible about Pelé's career and his goals. All the material gathered went through a process of restoration and the result, though not technically great, preserves well the memory of Pelé's achievements. If you like soccer and had the chance of seeing Pelé play, this movie will be pure nostalgia, but if you've never met "King" Pelé, this movie will function as a soccer encyclopaedia. A must see!
Although I don't understand a word in Portuguese! i found this film to be excellent. The whole work was, so alive and nicely put up. I'm a football fan from Iceland. I had not seen much footage of Pele, but everybody who love the game of football know his name. Just to watch his talent, unbelievable, and more to it, he also just look so genuine as a person. He is in my mind one of the greatest athlete of all time. Football is the greatest sport in the world, and he was the best player in this sport, that says a lot about him. congratulations to this film. Goal!

As a Pelé's witness I was expecting a movie like this. It shows to the whole world who Pelé really stands for to the world of soccer (or football, in Europe and South America), mainly for people who didn't have the opportunity to live in the same time as him, or to see a so complete history of his life. Comparisons are totally unsuitable, because there was not, there is not and there won't be anyone who can be comparable with Pelé, copying words from the film. The compilation was accurate and complete with the agreement from Pelé himself. Pelé says that even novel material he had never seen before was found out. So, you should watch it, or better, you have to watch it. You're gonna love it, I'm sure. And see the extra material, only available in DVDs.
It is a shame that I can't find this movie here, in Australia. I have the DVD in Brazil, but not here with me. Anyway, the DVD has no English subtitles and I can't understand why! I saw that they have a "english version" called "Pele Forever" and I hope I can find it someday, because here in Australia, our football is not the first (not even the second, third or fourth) sport. Maybe now, with Australia and New Zeland going to World Cup in South Africa, the "soccer" market grows and I can show this amazing movie here. Great documentary, truthful and thrilling. Pelé was not only a genius, but he is an amazing human being. Congratulations, Pelé, for all you've done. And congratulations to Anibal, Armando and José Roberta. Well done.
