Chilgeojiak means 'Seven Divorce Conditions'. It was the moral code for Korean wives, which came from occupation of the country by China. These were prohibitions male society sanctioned, that wives must observe. The seven sins which would result in a wife being outcast were: disobedience of your mother-in-law / being childless / being unfaithful / jealousy / a terminal illness / being talkative / stealing. This primitive code of conduct is the basis for the film.
