Tightly-shot gem.

THE CATCH is a beautifully shot, taut little gem of a thriller, impressively atmospheric for a film of it's length. A husband cheats on his wife with what he calls "dirty student types". His latest conquest is a young woman who wants to move out of the friend's flat she is sharing and find a place of her own. She answers an ad that leads her, unsuspecting, to the husband's house....

The film borders on violence, but gets around the gore very cleverly. There were a couple of story issues. There is a lot riding on the coincidence of the young woman answering the right ad, and there is a character transformation that left me puzzled, but perhaps the mystery was intentional, and I don't know under what constraints the film makers were working.

Steady performances from the cast. Overall a fine effort.
