I went in blind without expectations or even watching a trailer or scores.. but just a couple minutes in I got annoyed by the actors, camera angles, overall quality and the script.
I tried to sit through it but 20 minutes later I couldn't care less about the movie.

Animal is a curious movie. It's a kind of Sci-Fi thriller about the violence and the evilness that exits in nature. The animals have this instinct to kill in order to survive, but "man is the only one that kills for pleasure".
A genetic scientist (Andreas Wilson) will try to change this tendency to violence in the Human nature doing a new experience in a serial killer (Diogo Infante) who brutally killed some young girls. This "treatment" is expected to turn him into a pacific person eliminating his "killer instinct" It's the topic of this film, and the original idea is quite good I must say, because it relates a very polemic topic: is it ethically correct that genetics might change the most deeply characteristics of the Human nature, like love, hate, anger, rage, kindness? it's all part of our nature! The most interesting part of the film is precisely put the viewer thinking about this issue, but the rest of the movie is not so good In my opinion all story turns a bit superficial, because the main characters aren't as deep as they should be.

I've just seen this movie in FantasPorto (Oporto International Film Festival) and it won the best script award and the Melíes d'Argent award for Fantasy Film. The action is set in the near future and as the Director/Author/Screenwriter (Roselyne Bosch) says it is not a Science Fiction movie but rather an anticipation, seeing the science portrayed in this movie is only a few steps away. The scenarios of the film are set in Portugal, in the Imaginarium (a centre for science discovery) and in the Ocenario (a sort of sea aquarium) and in other locations around the country. The acting is very good, especially Diogo Infante who plays an outstanding serial killer. Overall I recommend this movie, it's quite good.
the actors are great, wild, and some scenes are so hot. andreas Wilson is wild as an animal. the directing is amazing, especially for a first time director. it's a real thriller and real sci fi at same time. with the type of future completely new and credible. no gadget there. strange and spectacular. not the cheap/trendy usual look of most indies. the director shows she KNOWS how to do this. sometimes, you get the feeling that new directors are filming with the "amateur" style, because they CANT do it in a different fashion. not with "animal". i glad i made that discovery. and also: it deals with violence, but does not crawl into it. a class act. wish more filmmakers had so much respect for their audience, these days...
Using the brain as main enemy in every parts of relation ship and life commitments, Roselyne Bosch drives the audience in a flow of great photography, addictive actors (especially the yummy girl) and well balanced actions. You think you can cure others ? Beware of what you are first. A film to see, especially if you guys are, like many of us, trying often to mimic animals to accept their rage, jealousness and way of life : instinct first. Even if you are the smarter one, you can loose yourself at playing this. After providing nice scripts (1492...), Roselyne shows us she can definitely manage a filmcrew to deserve her project. Mr Goldman did not think wrong when accepting to produce this movie. A man with Casino listed in his produced movies listing cannot be wrong.
