Image
Gary Jensen, a stunt coordinator who collaborated with Bryan Singer on The Usual Suspects and the first two X-Men films and with Kevin Smith on Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and four other movies, has died. He was 74.

Jensen recently spent two months in the hospital for back surgery and died April 11 at his home in Acton, California, his daughter-in-law Laura Jensen told The Hollywood Reporter.

He did stunts on films including Tron (1982), The Beastmaster (1982), Independence Day (1983), Hoosiers (1986), Peacemaker (1990), The Rookie (1990), In the Line of Fire (1993) and Due Date (2010).

Jensen also worked with Singer on Apt Pupil (1998) and with Smith on Dogma (1999), Clerks II (2006), Zack and Miri Make a Porno (2008) and Red State (2011), and he was a coordinator on 14 Perry Mason telefilms at NBC from 1989-94.

Billy Bob Thornton Already Played A Character With Tommy Norris’ Crass Sense Of Humor 19 Years Before Landman
Image
Warning! This article contains Spoilers for Landman episode 3.Long before he played Tommy Norris in Landman, Billy Bob Thornton portrayed another character with the same hilariously crass sense of humor. Billy Bob Thornton is one of the best working actors in Hollywood, and he's dominated both movies and TV shows for decades. From drama to romance to Westerns like Tombstone, Thornton has essentially done it all. His most recent role, as Tommy in Landman, has highlighted his comedy skills, but Taylor Sheridan's series is far from the first time Thornton has played a hilarious and unrefined character.

In recent years, Billy Bob Thornton has mostly been known for his dramatic roles. His long-running role on the show Goliath and in the film The Gray Man both put him in rather serious positions, and he played them exceptionally well. Viewers who are less familiar with Thornton's early work may have...

Seann William Scott Reveals Shocking Paycheque For Playing Stifler In ‘American Pie’
Image
Seann William Scott is the latest actor speaking out about their small paycheck in light of the actor’s strike.

The “American Pie” star — who played the iconic role of Stifler — says he went from starring in the 1999 hit to working as the churro guy at the LA zoo after he was only paid $8,000 for the entire movie.

Scott made the shocking claim while appearing on the “Rick Eisen Show”. The two played a game of truth or dare when he was asked if it was true that “American Pie” was his first feature-length film and whether he was only paid the four-figure number.

“I think so, yeah, because I remember afterwards I bought a used Thunderbird for like $5,000 or maybe $6,000, I’m like, ‘Oh yeah, baby’,” he said. “I don’t know what happened to the other $2,000 because I ended up having to work at the LA Zoo as a churro guy,...

‘American Pie’ Star Reveals Tiny Paycheck For Starring Role In $200M Hit Comedy
Image
In this new era of actors’ financial transparency, actor Seann William Scott has revealed the paltry amount he was paid to appear in 1999 hit comedy American Pie.

Scott told TV chat show host Rick Elsen that he earned $8,000 for his work on the movie, which went on to make $235million at the box office.

The actor revealed in the interview that it “was a lot of money for me at the time” and revealed he’d splashed out.

“I remember afterwards I bought a used Thunderbird for like $5000 or maybe $6000, I’m like, ‘Oh yeah, baby’,” he said. “I don’t know what happened to the other $2000 because I ended up having to work at the LA Zoo as a churro guy, so maybe it was even less than $8000.”

Scott, who hails from Minnesota, played the role of wild lacrosse player Steve Stifler, aka Stifmeister. Scott continued working with the hit sex teen comedy franchise,...

Bill Macy at an event for Famille à louer (2004)

Macy costarred in the 1972-78 All in the Family spin-off series opposite Bea Arthur, who played the outspoken liberal Maude Findlay, a cousin of Family‘s Edith Bunker.

Lily James & Douglas Booth Swallow Pride & Prejudice & Zombies
Update: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies just won't die, and hopefully the new cast will give it the breath of life it needs to make the parody film work. Lily Collins is now out, but Lily James (the new Cinderella) is in. Other new cast members include Sam Riley (Maleficent), Bella Heathcote (Dark Shadows), Douglas Booth (Romeo & Juliet) as Mr. Darcy's friend Bingley and Emma Greenwell ("Shameless") as Bingley's sister, and Jack Huston (Kill Your Darlings) as the handsome Lt. Wickham. It hasn't been clarified if Riley is playing Mr. Darcy or if that role has yet to be cast.

May 2, 2013: Lily Collins (Mirror, Mirror) will star in Pride, Prejudice and Zombies and, in doing so, brings the project back from grave. Burr Steers (17 Again) will direct, which - if you're counting - makes the project's the fifth director. The movie is based on Seth Grahame-Smith's reimagining of...

'Million Dollar Arm' (2014) Movie Review
Million Dollar Arm is a Disney sports movie, which is to say you should walk in knowing exactly what to expect, a heart-warming film about people rising to the challenge, getting over themselves and finding success in the face of defeat. That's what you should expect and, for the most part, that's what you get. Perhaps the oddest thing for me, was that it's directed by Craig Gillespie, though he does seem to be making the rounds going from the edgy sports comedy Mr. Woodcock, to the indie dramedy Lars and the Real Girl, the comedic horror in Fright Night and now soft, family fare for Disney. It's a curious directorial path, but he seems comfortable with it. The obvious and easiest comparison to make is to call this film "Jerry Maguire light", which is really saying something since Maguire is pretty light stuff to start with. However, we're dealing...

Billy Bob Thornton at an event for IMDb First Credit (2016)
Interview: 'Fargo' star Billy Bob Thornton discusses going dark for FX
Billy Bob Thornton at an event for IMDb First Credit (2016)
On the Calgary set of FX's "Fargo" last month, most of the cast was there either shooting or dropping by on an off-day to chat with a group reporters. Billy Bob Thornton couldn't make it, but sent his regrets and expressed the desire to talk to all of the assembled scribes pre-premiere. That's the sort of thing you hear a lot in-the-moment, but doesn't normally come to pass. Things slip through the cracks and nobody's really to blame. People get busy. Billy Bob Thornton followed through.  After a series of crossed wires and adjusted schedules, the Oscar-winning "Slingblade" scribe checked in last Sunday morning, delayed only because he got caught-up watching early baseball, which immediately gives us something in common. "You can imagine what I think about your team," Thornton drawls. He's famously a Cardinals fan. I'm not-especially-famously a Red Sox fan. "You guys just creamed us twice," Thornton admits,...

Billy Bob Thorton on FX's 'Fargo' and 'a Haircut Gone Wrong'
New York (AP) - After failed attempts and broken dreams, by golly, someone went and put "Fargo" on series TV.

The 10-episode season premieres Tuesday at 10 p.m. Edt on FX. And it mesmerizes. As a furtherance of the 1996 crime classic by Joel and Ethan Coen that starred Frances McDormand, William H. Macy and Steve Buscemi, the TV adaptation is a wonder.

Like that movie, the series is set in rural, snow-glazed Minnesota, but 20 years later (in 2006), and is stocked with new characters, deadly mischief and a bounty of stars including Allison Tolman as a bright-eyed deputy and Martin Freeman as a nebbishy insurance salesman (distant echoes of the roles played by McDormand and Macy in the film). Also on hand are Colin Hanks, Bob Odenkirk, Oliver Platt, Kate Walsh, Keith Carradine, Adam Goldberg, Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, and more.

At the core of its deliciously deranged narrative is Lorne Malvo,...

'Million Dollar Arm' Trailer: Jon Hamm Gets Disney-fied (Video)
Jon Hamm's traded his "Mad Men" drinking and womanizing for a more feel-good business in the baseball comedy "Million Dollar Arm."

Jb Bernstein's career as a sports agent is on the wane when he comes up with an idea from out of left field. Jb (Hamm) enlists former baseball scout Ray Poitevint (Alan Arkin) to join him on a trip to India to find the fastest cricket pitcher in the land. As part of a reality show called "Million Dollar Arm," Jb and Ray recruit Dinesh (Madhur Mittal, "Slumdog Millionaire") and Rinku (Suraj Sharma, "Life of Pi") to come with them back to America to compete for contracts in the major leagues. Then Jb hires Tom House (Bill Paxton) to train Dinesh and Rinku for their big try-outs.

Add in some fish-out-of-water comedy (Alan Arkin being cranky in India, for example), a beautiful and charming neighbor played by Lake Bell...

Craig Gillespie Directing Baseball Movie Million Dollar Arm
Director Craig Gillespie has a pretty mixed track record behind the camera, but he's about to head to the big leagues with Mad Men star Jon Hamm.

Variety reports that Gillespie is in negotiations to direct Million Dollar Arm, a true story written by Win Win helmer Tom McCarthy that stars Hamm as agent J.B. Bernstein, a man who set up an elaborate reality show in India in order to audition 40,000 cricket players to see if any of them had what it took to become Mlb stars. (He ended up converting players Rinku Singh and Dinesh Patel.)

Bernstein was also responsible for teaching his new talent the rules of baseball as well as inducting them into American culture. So basically this whole project sounds like a reverse Mr. Baseball scenario. I'm sure Hamm will be fine as the agent, but is Gillespie the right person to tell this story?...

Jon Hamm is Disney's Million Dollar Man
Jon Hamm ("Mad Men," Sucker Punch) will star in the inspirational sports drama Million Dollar Arm for Disney. It's the true story of a sports agent who discovered baseball players Rinku Singh and Dinesh Patel in India. Agent J.B. Bernstein (Hamm) had the idea to find baseball pitchers amongst cricket players and staged a reality show in India to discover new talent. Once he found two potential recruits, he had to teach them the rules of baseball, English and American culture. All the work paid off when the two were hired by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Craig Gillespie (Mr. Woodcock) will direct for Roth Films and Mayhem Films.

Craig Gillespie Eyes Million Dollar Arm
The film planning to begin production soon, Million Dollar Arm appears to have found a director in Craig Gillespie, Variety reports. "Mad Men" star John Hamm is attached to headline the project, playing sports agent J.B. Bernstein in the true story of how he discovered professional pitchers Rinku Singh and Dinesh Patel through his Indian reality show. The show, "Million Dollar Arm," launched in India in 2008. More than 40,000 contestants auditioned, including Singh and Patel, who emerged as the two finalists and eventually signed professional contracts with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Gillespie has previously directed a wide range of projects, including Lars and the Real Girl , Mr. Woodcock and, most recently, Fright Night . Tom McCarthy is...

Fright Night director Craig Gillespie to helm Jon Hamm in true sports drama Million Dollar Arm
Last reported on back in May, it seems like Jon Hamm's upcoming starring vehicle Million Dollar Arm is on the verge of securing a director in the form of Craig Gillespie.  I presume this means that production is moving closer to commencing, though there is technically no start date as of yet for the movie.  Gillespie is an interesting man to watch (in both sense of the phrase), having moved in recent years from crass comedy (Mr. Woodcock) to emotional drama replete with a...

Craig Gillespie is in talks to join Disney's baseball drama Million Dollar Arm. We reported that Jon Hamm joined to play J.B. Bernstein back in May.

Craig Gillespie In Talks To Direct Million Dollar Arm
The news broke in May that Mad Men’s Jon Hamm was set for his next big screen role in Disney’s Million Dollar Arm. Now comes word that Lars and the Real Girl helmer Craig Gillespie is in talks to direct Disney’s sports drama in which Hamm stars.

Golden Globe-winner Hamm will be the man behind the talent, playing sports agent J.B. Bernstein who discovered professional pitchers Rinku Singh and Dinesh Patel through a reality show he staged in India with cricket players. His work paid off when the duo became the first Indian players to sign with pro baseball teams when they got contracts with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Based on a true story the script was penned by Tom McCarthy (Win Win, The Visitor) who shared a bit more on the story last year:

It’s a great story, very human story… It’s going to...

Director Craig Gillespie Drafted To Helm Disney’s Million Dollar Arm
Having secured Jon Hamm (Mad Men) to lead its upcoming Million Dollar Arm as sports agent J.B. Bernstein, Disney has pinned down another major player in the form of director Craig Gillespie.

Million Dollar Arm recounts the events leading up to the unprecedented signing of Rinku Singh and Dinesh Patel with Major League Baseball’s Pittsburgh Pirates. Bernstein spotted the exceptional pair while in India producing a reality show involving cricket, and in the course of auditioning 40,000 players, he noticed the similarity of pitching style to baseball’s. Talented pitchers, similar style, and the radical idea was born. He’d just have to teach them actual baseball, the English language, and American culture… let the games begin.

Million Dollar Arm seems a good fit for Gillespie, who has a knack for two of the story’s major elements: bridging the unusual perspective with the established custom (Lars and the Real Girl,...

Craig Gillespie in Talks to Direct Million Dollar Arm Starring Jon Hamm
Director Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl) is in negotiations to helm Million Dollar Arm, a sports drama for Disney that is based on real life events. Starring Jon Hamm (Mad Men) as sports agent J.B. Bernstein. Million Dollar Arm tells the story of how two Indian cricket players, Dinesh Patel and Rinku Singh became finalists Bernstein’s titular reality show and landed Major League contracts. Bernstein, burnt out from too many high-stress dealings with top-level talent, watched a cricket game on TV late one night and decided that the pitching motion was similar enough to baseball that there might just be a potential for some cross over. Where could a stunt like this possibly work? Why, with the Pittsburgh Pirates, of course! Hit the jump for more. Variety reports that Gillespie is in talks to helm the pic, scripted by Tom McCarthy (Win, Win). Other directorial credits...

Will Ferrell Thinks Pink as Flamingo Thief

‘Lars and the Real Girl’ Helmer Craig Gillespie May Direct Will Ferrell in the Weird-Sounding ‘Flamingo Thief’
Craig Gillespie’s career as a director has been an interesting one so far. He made the Ryan Gosling-starring indie drama Lars and the Real Girl, which was gutsy, unique, and acclaimed enough that you would think it would have been his first shot fired in a quick and easy takeover of the indie film world. But that’s not the story at all. Lars and the Real Girl wasn’t Gillespie’s debut film that we’re all eagerly awaiting a followup to, it was his second film, and it’s sandwiched in between the mainstream and pretty mediocre fare Mr. Woodcock and Fright Night (you know, the remake). What’s with the strange disparity? And what direction can we expect Gillespie’s career to take in the future? A new report from Variety might give us something of an idea. Apparently the director is in talks to bring to the screen a Black List...

The Baytown Disco Trailer Features Billy Bob Thornton, Eva Longoria
The Baytown Disco, the grits-n-hominy crime flick that’s come barrelling out of the left field of the indie scene over the past year, finally has a new trailer. Billy Bob Thornton Says He Hopes Fans Get A Kick Out Of Seeing Him Return As 'Bad Santa'
In the last decade, Billy Bob Thornton has become associated with a litany of cantankerous, intimidating characters, via “Mr. Woodcock,” “Bad News Bears,” and of course, “Bad Santa.” Almost ten years after making “Bad Santa,” Thornton is planning to return to the role that made him a king of black comedy via a sequel to be penned by one of the two competing sets of writers. Given the positive experience Thornton had on the first film, he recently said that he hopes lightning will strike twice as he enters into the first sequel of his career. “I’d never read a…...

Judge clears path for trial accusing the Weinstein Company of 'sabotage'
Brendan Fraser, George Lopez, Jane Lynch, Craig Robinson, and Rob Corddry in Les zévadés de l'espace (2012)
A New York judge rejected several pre-trial motions in a $50 million lawsuit filed by the filmmakers behind a still-unreleased animated film, Escape From Planet Earth against the Weinstein Company, paving the way for the case to go to trial. TWC and its fellow defendants had attempted to have the claims — that the companies violated their contract with the filmmakers and “sabotaged” the release of their own movie with “Bialystock & Bloom” financial shenanigans — dismissed or at least moved to a California court. But New York State Judge Paul Feinman denied their motions — as well as one from the plaintiff requesting that...

Colin Farrell and Anton Yelchin in Fright Night (2011)
Interview: Craig Gillespie Talks Fright Night, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
Colin Farrell and Anton Yelchin in Fright Night (2011)
Director Craig Gillespie has had an interesting career. After making his debut with “Lars and the Real Girl,” episodic television work ensued, followed by a contretemps over the comedy “Mr. Woodcock,” starring Seann William Scott, Susan Sarandon and Billy Bob Thornton that saw him removed from the project. His latest film is the adaptation/reboot of 1985′s horror-comedy “Fright Night,” starring Anton Yelchin as a Las Vegas high school kid who finds out his new neighbor (Colin Farrell) is actually a vampire. ShockYa recently had the chance to talk to Gillespie one-on-one about what attracted him to “Fright Night,” what he thought about shooting the movie in 3-D, and his next film, the genre...

Review: Fright Night
This summer's movies have included a number of remakes, revisits and reimaginings. The latest of these, opening this weekend, are Conan the Barbarian (look for my review this weekend) and Fright Night, Craig Gillespie's take on the 1985 suburban vampire hit. Newcomers will love this horror-comedy set on the outskirts of Las Vegas, and fans of the original should have no complaints.

This remake was in good hands as Gillespie has a short but sweet resume with the Ryan Gosling hit Lars and the Real Girl, Mr. Woodcock, and a number of episodes of United States of Tara. Handling the screenplay was Marti Noxon, who is no stranger to vampires after writing for Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer in addition to a number of other TV series, and she did a fantastic job. Her script echoes the 1985 source but takes surprising and unexpected turns.

Not the least of these...

Box Office Challenge: ‘Conan the Barbarian,’ ‘Fright Night’ and ‘Spy Kids 4′
Box Office Challenge

What movie will be No. 1 at the box office?

Hitting the screens this weekend …

Conan the Barbarian

Fright Night

One Day

Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World

Tsr’s complete Film Review Database

Four relatively big films open this weekend, three of them in 3D. The trend continues!

With a smile wider than her head, Anne Hathaway joins Jim Sturgess in One Day (fortunately just in 2D). This director/writer team-up looks to be an impressive one, Lone Scherfig last directorial was 2009′s well-reviewed An Education and writer David Nicholls’s screenplay for When Did You Last See Your Father? was tremendous. Still, for me, Hathaway and Sturgess have always been the iconic poster-children for “difficult to digest.” Yes, maybe I’m in the minority. But maybe I’m not? This weekend’s box office results will lend to the answer. I’m skeptical...

Red Band Clip from ‘Fright Night’
DreamWorks Pictures released a red band clip through IGN. The three and a half minute clip has Charley Brewster (Anton Yelchin), Jane Brewster (Toni Collette) and Amy (Imogen Poots) trapped in their house and then chased by their vampire neighbor Jerry (Colin Farrell). The film stars Anton Yelchin, Colin Farrell, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, David Tennant, Imogen Poots and Toni Collette. Here is the official synopsis for the film: Senior Charley Brewster (Yelchin) finally has it all—he’s running with the popular crowd and dating the hottest girl in high school. In fact, he’s so cool he’s even dissing his best friend Ed (Mintz-Plasse). But trouble arrives when an intriguing stranger Jerry (Farrell) moves in next door. He seems like a great guy at first, but there’s something not quite right—and everyone, including Charlie’s mom (Collette), doesn’t notice. After witnessing some very unusual activity, Charlie...

Craig Gillespie Says ‘Pride and Prejudice And Zombies’ Is Ready & He Hopes To Shoot In 2012
When “Lars and the Real Girl” director Craig Gillespie was first tapped to direct the remake of ‘80s camp horror classic “Fright Night,” a collective Wtf seemed to ring out from the film community at large. Of course, Gillespie also directed the studio comedy “Mr. Woodcock,” which has even less in common with 'Lars,' but word on the “Fright Night” remake has been generally favorable and clearly Lionsgate was impressed enough to offer Gillespie their highly anticipated adaptation of the literary/horror genre mash-up “Pride and Prejudice with Zombies.” The “Pride' adaptation has been on the table for a while now,…...

The CoF Weekend Preview: Cars 2 Is Pixar’s First ‘Rotten’ Movie, So Who’s Hot For Teacher?
Welcome to The CoF Weekend Preview where we take a look at what’s going on this weekend in entertainment. Check back Sunday night for the Box Office Report and return Monday for The City Strip. Don’t forget to check out the CoF Summer Movie Guide 2011 for what else is coming soon to theaters. And Here We…Go!

Cars 2 – IMDb – Rt (34%)

I’ve mentioned it before but it’s worth mentioning again, I don’t like these movies. Cars was just not fun nor did it need a sequel. The folks at Pixar on the other hand love this stuff and will make it anyways, good for them I suppose, but the track record ends today. Cars is running at 34% approval, Pixar’s first ever “rotten” score. Someone’s in trouble.

Bad Teacher – IMDb – Rt (45%)

What’s not to like? Justin Timberlake of course, but Jason Segal and...

Forecast: How Much Mileage Will Pixar Get Out of 'Cars 2?'
Owen Wilson in Cars 2 (2011)
This weekend, Cars 2 zips into 4,115 locations, topping Toy Story 3's 4,028 as the broadest Pixar launch yet, though its estimated screen count is in the same 7,000 range. Cars 2's 2,508 3D location count (including 120 IMAX venues) is only slightly higher than Toy Story 3's 2,463. Also opening nationwide, Bad Teacher shows up on around 3,800 screens at 3,049 locations. Cars 2 marks Pixar's first sequel to something other than Toy Story, but, while the first Cars was presumably a favorite among tykes, it wasn't beloved by everyone else. It debuted to $60.1 million five years ago and closed with $244.1 million, or the equivalent of $72 million and $293 million adjusted for ticket price inflation. However, people weren't clamoring for a sequel like they were with the Toy Story movies. Cars 2 seems like the first time that Pixar hasn't targeted everyone. In its marketing, the movie comes off as a kids-only affair, pushing the Mater character...
