This is an easy series to enjoy. It largely traces the life and travel steps of Vincent van Gogh, shows what art he produced at each step of his extremely prolific and brief (9 years) artistic career and explains why he chose to do that piece in that way. Of interest is the progression of his artistry and form. We come to understand that he tried, tested, absorbed many different styles and techniques --- including Japanese watercolor style with it's colorful flat, one dimensional representations --- before he found his own individual and distinctive style.
This series tries to show us more of the man. It takes us to the actual buildings that played important roles in the life of van Gogh, either because he lived there, was treated there, painted there or used it as a subject or inspiration of his art. It's a window to the man, the artist, the soul which will help the viewer better appreciate the art.
