Hannah and the Dog Ghost

I, too, saw this short film (30 minutes) for the first time in elementary school and I never forgot it. I recently ordered the DVD online and it's just as great as I remembered.

A dramatic folk tale about family love, loyalty, and courage, Hannah and the Dog Ghost is a classic. The sets and "special effects" are simple, but effective, and do not detract from the power of the story and its characters.

The evil Fiddlin' Man is not easily forgotten, but Hannah will also resonate with viewers as a symbol of persistence in the face of adversity. Every child should get the chance to see this-it's really a gem.

I agree with everything the other reviewers have written, concerning "Hannah and the Dog Ghost", and more... As a long-time Reading and English teacher, this film was the perfect device to teach symbolism, figurative language, and to become spellbound. I taught mostly "hard core" 6-9 grade students ( definition: students who disliked everything and anything to do with school and who basically abhor ed life itself; unfortunately); who absolutely flipped for this film. I commend the whole team, who put this project together. It is precisely clever; simple yet layered. I am still surprised, scared, mood lifted, and in awe, the more I have viewed it; which is in the range of 50 times.The Cajun music, the Vicki Washington authentic accent narration the timing of effects are worth several viewings. The more you watch, the more you see.

As an educator who rarely shows " visual enhancement" due to state testing restraints, I am overjoyed to buy this after looking for this cinematic gem for over twenty years. As a " film buff", I highly recommend this.

What a visual and auditory feast.
