Two Minutes

Joti is a ladies man - atlethic, good looking, smart and far too good to be wasted on just one woman. He uses speed-dating events to meet other girl's for one off relationship. However, at one such event he meets a woman that offers him a surprise - albeit not the one he hoped for.

Following on from his sprawling Asian melodrama Second Generation, Biswas keeps the Asian flavour alive in this film that focuses on a `playa', an Asian guy who thinks girls are easy and really only there for his amusement. The film uses this quite well even if the conclusion is obvious and a little pat. It is still quite funny though and the writing is bang on.

A common compliant about young Asian men like Joti is the fact that many do act like everything is their right; that their parents have always provided and that women will be just another thing that is chosen and provided by the family. This is not to say that all, or even a majority, act this way but many do; it is to the film's credit that it doesn't demonise this type of character but that it does give him what he deserves.

The cast are young, pretty and good throughout - the performances were so very natural that I thought that maybe they were just acting themselves, although that assumption probably does them a disservice. Biswas directs with style, using the bright colourful places well and providing a catchy if uninspired soundtrack that fits the music.

Overall, an enjoyable little film that attacks the arrogance of many young men (Asian or otherwise) in a witty, stylish manner.
