It is obvious to even the casual viewer that the makers of this short have a true appreciation for silent-slapstick comedy. This film works well because of the tone needed for comedy shorts. The premise is simple--a young man falls asleep before a "hot date," only to awaken in a frenzied state of panic when he realizes he may have overslept. From the moment the young man awakes, a series of comedic missteps ensues, ala a Buster Keaton or Charlie Chaplin film. The best bit involves two pairs of pants that lead to a pratfall that even seems to shake the camera a bit. The main actor has an everyman presence to him that makes it easy to relate to immediately--which is ideal in a short. I don't know if this film will ever end up in a compilation--I saw it at a Festival--but I hope that the creative team will continue to make comedic shorts...despite no real market for shorts. It's nice when contemporary filmmakers pay their respects to past masters, without blatantly ripping them off.
