    Boring and empty

This movie is part of a religious propaganda and it lacks of tolerance on its view by evangelic fundamentalist who believes in conservatism, creationism and brainwashing. It is as a 2 hours monologue where a preacher (Jorge Reynoso), tries to save Rafael Iclan from his sins and misbehavior. Quality and consistency are poor and there is no acting at all. You could love the picture if you are in tune with the message it brings, or will hate it, in case you were expecting a comedy or action movie. The suggested title of BIBLE TALK is a good one. That will tells you all and will alert you about the content (the original title suggest a action-comedy).

Should have been titled "Bible Talk"!

Watching this movie gives one a better appreciation of Rafael Inclan because he in fact carries the film all by himself. His thankless role in which he is given little to do in a non-story would have been a true challenge to any actor, and yet here his charismatic performance makes the video watchable. There is no reason to give this movie anymore than one star, and only the one because of Señor Inclan. Yes, the camera work is good, but a movie which basically focuses on two people talking throughout is not really a movie at all. If you're a fan of Roberto Ballesteros there's no need to view this, as his role consists primarily of only 3 cameo appearances. It's sad to physically compare Jorge Reynosa in an early performance in Cazador de Tiburones(1979) in which he was in excellent shape and here in which he is the opposite. With long graying hair his visage is hard to get used to. This video is a religious message movie, not to be confused with a religious dramatization or religious themed movie. For the most part, former tough guy Jorge Reynoso plays peaceable cop Arturo(nicknamed Plata) who continuously lectures Rogelio(Rafael Inclan) an unbeliever, on the bible. Of course, Rafael may need it after all the highly risqué motion pictures he's been in! There have been many excellent religious "message" movies such as, Waiting for the Wind(1991) with another tough guy, Robert Mitchum, and Umbrella Jack(1984) with the American king of horror, no less, John Carradine. But these had wonderful stories in which to convey their Christian message. The plot(loosely speaking!)in Duro de Salvar is as follows: we open with a family having breakfast. The father is a police officer, and soon meets up with his partner Arturo(J.R.). They come upon a hold up, and Arturo's partner is killed. Rogelio(R.I.) is the new partner, and the comedian doesn't stray from the character his fans have come to love. His part of the non-believer is reminiscent of the "Hugo" character played by Gilbert Roland in The Miracle of Our Lady of Fatima. Inclan may have wandered from the script occasionally to liven up the proceedings, e.g. when he tries to read the bible at close range with his binoculars! The crime team sporadically follow suspects involved in arms trafficking. Rogelio's daughter is later involved in an accident, Arturo prays and she miraculously comes out of her coma. At a restaurant, we(and Rogelio) get a rare chuckle as the waiter's name is Jesus. Well, the partners finally run head on into the criminals, of which Roberto Ballesteros is the leader, and the final outcome is well handled. Technically, some inspired camera-work is used as when Arturo and Rogelio talk in their truck but are seen through the rear-view mirror. Yes the message is worthwhile, but a CD recording would have been more appropriate considering the script.
