Screen veteran Glynis Johns, who very memorably played Mrs. Banks in the beloved movie Mary Poppins, has died.
The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Johns passed away on Thursday at an assisted living facility in West Hollywood. Her passing was confirmed by her manager, Mitch Clem. Johns, who officially became the oldest living Disney Legend following Betty White's passing in 2021, was 100 years old.
Johns, considered to have been one of the last surviving stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood, had an impressive career with more than eight decades spent in show business, having portrayed dozens of characters on stage and on the screen. One of her most well-known roles is as Winifred Banks, the feminist mother of Jane (Karen Dotrice) and Michael (Matthew Garber), and wife of George Banks (David Tomlinson). Walt Disney, who produced the classic film, had hand-picked Johns for the role of Mrs. Banks, with...

Glynis Johns, the upbeat leading lady with the British charm who starred as the spirited feminist mother Winifred Banks in Mary Poppins, has died. She was 100.
Johns lived in West Hollywood and died Thursday of natural causes at an assisted living facility in the area, her manager, Mitch Clem, told The Hollywood Reporter.
A multitalented actress, dancer, pianist and singer, Johns earned a best supporting actress Oscar nomination for playing the widowed saloon and hotel owner Mrs. Firth in Fred Zinnemann’s Australia-set The Sundowners (1960).
Plus, she memorably sang “Send in the Clowns,” which Stephen Sondheim wrote just for her, in her Tony Award-winning performance as Desiree Armfeldt in the original 1973 production of A Little Night Music.
The husky voiced Johns was nominated for a Golden Globe for portraying a daffy older socialite who is stirred by the young stud she meets on the beach in a then-controversial film about sex,...

Hey everyone! We have one last batch of horror and sci-fi home media releases headed our way before the end of the month, and this week’s offerings are massive, with well over 20 titles coming out on 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD this Tuesday alone.
One of my favorite creature features ever is getting some love in HD finally, with Scream Factory’s 4K release of Lewis Teague’s Alligator (and its sequel is headed to Blu-ray this week as well), and the horror comedy Dead Heat is also getting a 4K upgrade. For all you giallo fans out there, Forgotten Gialli: Volume 3 is being released tomorrow and features three more Italian classics genre fans are going to want to own, and Severin Films is keeping busy with a ton of titles this week too: Bloody Pit of Horror, Black Candles, Night of the Demon, and The Halfway House.

After making a distinct impression at last year’s Cannes Film Festival with Pablo Larraín’s cleverly-directed drama Neruda, will Gael García Bernal return to the festival this year? The first images have debuted for one of his next films, If You Saw His Heart, which marks the directorial debut of Joan Chemla.
Also starring Marine Vacth, who was fantastic in François Ozon’s Young & Beautiful, the film noir follows Bernal’s character Daniel, who is cast out of his gypsy community after his best friend dies. He finds refuge in a hotel for broken souls and drifts into crime, but an unexpected ray of light enlivens his existence when he meets Francine.
“It a moving and hypnotic film noir in the vein of Takeshi Kitano or James Gray,” said producer Pierre Guyard. As we await word of a premiere, check out the new images above and below for the...

Like many children growing up in the 1960s, Kenneth Hall loved monsters. Ever since he was a toddler, his mother — who was an especially big fan of Vincent Price — took him and his brother to see films like The Brides Of Dracula, Curse Of The Werewolf, and The Pit And The Pendulum. And that was all it took. At age 10, Hall discovered Famous Monsters of Filmland, and with the help of the trusty TV Guide, he and his brother made a point to watch as many of the films they read about as they could, even if it meant sneaking out of bed and staying up late to catch a showing of The Deadly Mantis. Like many Monster Kids of his time, there was a now-or-never mentality that came with a lack of home video, but growing up in Jacksonville, Fl did give Hall an extra advantage. It was the...

The closest Kingdom has come to a bottle episode at this point, “Cut Day” is all about the conditions under which confronting one’s greatest fears and darkest moods is most likely to occur. Christina, whose demons are more than fully documented and discussed at this point, is not present for the first time since the beginning of the season, leaving the men and Lisa to reassess the state of things both emotionally and in regards to the gym. “Cut Day” coops all three fighters up together for the first extended period of time, puts Lisa in charge of the boys making weight while flying solo, and throws Alvey into a spiral while locked away in a hotel. Christmas is a time for feel-good movies. It’s a Wonderful Life, A Charlie Brown Christmas, and the usual Hallmark Hall of Fame drivel that hits the airwaves every December. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the mainstream Christmas classics as much as the next guy. But at night, when my family is all snug in their beds, that’s when I drag out my sick and twisted Christmas collection…
Black Christmas, Christmas Evil, Silent Night Deadly Night, Don’t Open Till Christmas, those are the films I like to cuddle up to with a spiked eggnog. What is my favorite? That’s a difficult question. I love them all for different reasons, but if I had to pick one, I would have to pick a recent import from Finland called Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale. A modern mashup of The Thing and the Krampus mythology, it is...

The halfway house that Amber was supposed to go to after jail has Very specific guidelines that must be met, and they're not letting her in their program! Teen Mom star Amber Portwood was released from Madison County correctional facility on Feb. 24, but the halfway house she was supposed to go to for drug treatment program refused to accept her, according to TMZ.com. A source from the facility, Sister 2 Sister Ministries, told HollywoodLife.com exclusively that Amber would have to have a face-to-face interview as part of the application process! Did she fail her exam? "We do have specific guidelines," the source told us about the intake process. The review process takes about a month. The lengthy application would have also asked for Amber's criminal background history, habits she wants to change and if she's supporting a child. As part of the intake process, Amber would have to undergo a face-to-face interview.

We got word today that a pretty interesting addition has been made to the "Monsterverse Horror Comics Ate My Brain" panel being held at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, July 22nd: Werewolf screenwriter Michael Tabb.
Werewolf, you may recall, is the new stand-alone film from Universal that was originally slated to be a sequel to its less than warmly received The Wolfman from 2010. Maybe we'll finally get some clarification as to the exact nature of the upcoming film to be directed by Louis Morneau (reboot, redux, sequel, or what) during the panel.
As for his Monsterverse connection, Tabb will be writing a sinister nod to "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" for an upcoming issue of Monsterverse's acclaimed Bela Lugosi's Tales from the Grave horror anthology comic book series.
Prior to the addition of Michael Tabb, here are the Monsterverse panel details:

My first reaction after last night’s episode of Justified, “For Blood or Money” was, ‘All this for a Furby?’ People are crazy sometimes.
As we hoped before the season started, Raylan’s co-workers at Marshall Services are beginning to have their stories told. With all of the talent on the cast of Justified, this season is beginning to feel like a real ensemble cast instead of Timothy Olyphant and a bunch of other people. So even if for just for half an episode, the change of pace was good.
I always had a suspicion that Tim (Jacob Pitts) was screwed up, but to think that sweet Rachel (Erica Tazel) lost her sister, in the way it happened, well, let’s just say that would have taken lesser men and women down a much darker path than what she chose. Rachel revisited a chance to right her sister’s wrong...

Last year, author/artist/screenwriter Stephen Romano unveiled Shock Festival, a lavish volume that homaged the B-movie genre via histories and a trove of artwork and photos of horror, action and sexploitation flicks…that never existed (order it here). Now, Romano is adapting the book into a multi-dvd edition for POPcinema, and we got the details from him and an exclusive first peek at the cover art, along with a promo poster.
“People got really excited about the fictional world of my book, because it reminded them of real movies they had forgotten about or wanted to revisit,” Romano tells Fango. “There are a lot of opportunities now for younger people to rediscover weirdo, nihilistic sci-fi films like Chosen Survivors or yucky, twisted 42nd Street shithouse classics like Slime City. Those were the types of films that inspired me to create my book. So when I was coming to the...
