    • Trivia
NBC bought the television rights from the Sapporo Olympics group, but didn't know they had to make a deal with NHK (official English name: Japan Broadcasting Corporation), for broadcast booths at each venue. By the time NBC found out, it was too late. The booths had been built and there were none to spare. Consequently, NBC's commentators (despite being in a studio in downtown Sapporo) worked off of monitors. Amazingly, it had also happened when NBC bought the rights to the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
