Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band: Live in Barcelona

I was approximately 10 feet from the stage in Phoenix 5 weeks before this concert was filmed. Seeing it 16 months later brought back all the same emotions that ran through me that night. Wow! I had goose bumps from the opening number. My wife and I stood riveted in front of the television, overwhelmed by reliving the experience of a lifetime. This DVD captures how Bruce not only delivers a powerhouse performance mined from his enormous repetoire but wills the audience to give back and feeding off that energy to the brink of exhaustion. The force of "The Rising" is worth the price of the DVD alone and you get 2 1/2 hours beyond that! The Boss has no peers.

I don't know why it took me so long to watch this. I've never found a Bruce Springsteen concert movie I didn't enjoy, and while I wouldn't quite say this is my #1 favourite, it's still really good. I guess it came shortly after his New York City tour in the early 2000s, and maybe I feared it would be too similar to that. I don't think it's quite as great, but it's close.

I enjoyed hearing a few deeper cuts here; some songs of his that I don't think I've heard him play live, including Incident on 57th Street and Night. I also have to say, I really like the way he plays Dancing in the Dark live, compared to the studio version. I know I've seen at least one other concert where he jazzes it up with extra instrumentation, and I think it sounds even better than the original.

Anyway, will keep it brief, because I liked this because I'm a big Bruce Springsteen fan, and that's all that needs to be said - my review is really that simple.

The full concert, with more energy and talent per song than a hundred Harry Styles gigs. Filmed with very close focus in places on Bruce's face - all the sweat and all the emotion.

The crowd are amazing too - this is his favourite place to play in the world, apparently. Despite the possible language barrier.

Terrific direction, with focus on most solos and interesting interactions. I'd heard that the sound was iffy but I thought it had great stereo sound, listening on headphones.

Perhaps a little long if you want to do it in one viewing. But thats how long he plays for! Have an intermission, perhaps?

I cannot disagree with the comments also posted. I'll add that this concert was broadcast live and what you see is the unedited show. No edits of songs from another night, no overdubs, a complete show. Its' exciting, maybe you should wait till its a hot night to watch this again to try and simulate the steamy Spannish atmos. Just watch and listen to "No Surrender" and be exhausted by the energy. If you enjoyed this try: Manic Street Preachers: Louder than War So when can we have some archive Springsteen performances? Bruce sweats like a dog, sings and plays his heart out, along with Steve, Clarence and the rest of the band. Great concert, Bruce fans will not be disappointed.
