I don't usually shed tears watching TV or films, but this time I did - a lot. This is a very touching, honest story about two absolutely wonderful human beings.
Hugo and Rosa are two shining beacons of wholesomeness and wonder, mostly unaware of the crazy, fast-paced world rushing by outside their quiet, humble slice of life.
The film is simple and beautiful, lovingly capturing the essence of a bygone Swedish era.
It's also a powerful example of how quickly life can change - taking the story from their stoic resistance to modernity to the heartbreaking fragility of age - but it also shows the deep, enduring love these two people carry within them.

This is a splendid, touching documentary about a brother and a sister (Hugo and Rosa), who are living together in a little house on the countryside of the modern Sweden. They are about a hundred years old and living happily in peace with nature in a very primary way of life. They don't have the luxury of electricity and still provide for their own food. Everything seems like a fairytale until Hugo becomes very ill and Rosa has to move into a resthome.
I saw this documentary when it first came out on TV and it's always sat in my mind, coming and going when something would remind me of them, their final years on this earth. I would be happy if I could watch this until I blended right into the meadow, to feel the sun warm my skin and hear their footsteps. Slow, pure, perfect. This is life and love to me, full and satisfied. I see miracles every day. Blessings to all those that brought Hugo and Rosa to the screen, thank you.
I'm looking to find a copy of this to download, I want to share it with my kids so they know of these beautiful souls.
It's one of the most beautifully moving documentaries I have ever seen.

I have seen this documentary for the second time now, last night on Canvas and the story of these two old people is so touching. It really hit me that one day this could happen to yourself, being lonely and having nobody for support. Really touching, whenever I'm in Sweden I will definitely visit Gunby... Also how it has been filmed, the beautiful contrast in the documentary, peace and quiet on the farm and the plane flying over the house, the old house without the electricity and the broadcasting tower in the fields. It brings tears to my eyes even now as I'm writing this...
My compliments to Bengt Jägerskog...
