1. Girl You Know It’s True (April 4)

Girl You Know It’s True (2023) is a film that tells the story of dancers Rob Pilatus and Fab Morvan, who gained fame in the late 80s as the pop duo Milli Vanilli. Despite their success, the duo never actually sang on their songs or debut album.

A sexy comedy featuring man-of-the-moment Glen Powell posing as an undercover hitman, Jessica Alba kicking ass in an all-action revenge tale, the inimitable David Letterman interviewing a new round of guests, the continuing saga of Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton, the return of a beloved fantasy series and the story of the most iconic franchise in cheerleading are among the standout new additions to Netflix in June.

Returning in June on Netflix is the third season of the fantasy series Sweet Tooth. Netflix’s list of new releases for June 2024 look suspiciously like last month’s.

That’s because the biggest item on the schedule is Bridgerton season 3 once again. The final four episodes of Bridgerton‘s third season will premiere on June 13. Polin fans everywhere, rejoice! Other TV items of note this month include the third and final season of Sweet Tooth (June 6), Worst Roommate Ever season 2 (June 26), and That ’90s Show Part 2 (June 28).

Bridgerton aside, Netflix’s original movie options this month might be even more impressive than the TV slate. Richard Linklater’s Hitman, which stars Glen Powell as the titular assassin, premieres on June 7. That will be followed by documentary Black Barbie on June 19, the Jessica Alba-starring Trigger Warning on June 21, and romcom A Family Affair on June 28

Goodbye February, hello March! Prime Video! This month, the Amazon streamer will add dozens of film titles to its library on the first of the month, including 1989’s “Field of Dreams” and “Bull Durham” for those with spring training fever.

For the rest of the month, Prime Video will premiere several of this year’s most anticipated features, including the new “Road House” remake starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Conor McGregor on March 21. (The original starring Patrick Swayze will also come to the streamer on March 1). The wacky animated film “Nimona” also arrives on the world’s largest streamer next month. The movie follows a shapeshifter sidekick to the villain Lord Blackheart. After his boss gets in trouble with Sir Ambrosius Goldenloin, who is charged with keeping the peace in a futuristic fantasy kingdom, Nimona has to become a new kind of hero for a new kind of fairy tale. The film arrives June 30 on Netflix.

Will Ferrell is eyeing another role from the sports world after the Winning Time fallout with director David O. Russell's John Madden biopic. Collaborators-turned-couple Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach have made four movies together throughout their decade-long relationship. The two first collaborated on the 2010 feature Greenberg, which co-starred Gerwig as the romantic interest of Ben Stiller's title character. Gerwig and Baumbach began dating in 2011 and then collaborated professionally again on 2012's Frances Ha and 2015's Mistress America, both of which they co-wrote together, followed by the 2022 adaptation White Noise.

Baumbach was already well established when he began working with Gerwig, having made his feature directorial debut in 1995 with Kicking and Screaming. Gerwig on the other hand, got her start as one of the key actors in the Mumblecore films of the mid-2000s, eventually co-directing projects as well. In recent years, she has moved away from acting to focus on her solo directorial career, which consists of 2017's Lady Bird, 2019's Little Women, and 2023's Barbie movie, the latter of which Baumbach co-wrote with Gerwig.

Noah Baumbach’s versatility can be traced back to his 1995 directorial debut, Kicking and Screaming. There aren’t many filmmakers that capture awkward, hilariously realistic characters quite like Baumbach. The filmmaker can either make us fall in love with his characters or absolutely detest them; as much as you may have loved Charlie (Adam Driver) and Nicole (Scarlett Johansson) in Marriage Story, you grow to despise Bernard (Jeff Daniels) and Joan (Laura Linney) in The Squid and The Whale. It was Kicking and Screaming, though, that established many of the stylistic tropes that he would use throughout his career.

Though his face is now associated with Amazon Prime Video’s show of the summer, “The Summer I Turned Pretty”, actor Christopher Briney will also appear in TIFF’s closing night film “Dalíland” alongside Sir Ben Kingsley, Barbara Sukowa, Ezra Miller, Suki Waterhouse and more. Directed by Mary Harron, from a screenplay by John C. Walsh, the film was shot in the spring of 2021 in the UK, before Briney worked on the eventual hit Prime Video series. In fact, “Dalíland” was his first acting role ever.

“Independent film is where my heart has always been, and it’s always been my dream to do that as much as I can in my life,” Briney said in an interview with TheWrap. “Whether it’s acting or directing down the line, it’s a world that’s inspired me a lot and a world that’s a big reason why I love acting.

If you’ve ever wondered what “Stranger Things” would look like through the lens of “The Squid and the Whale” filmmaker Noah Baumbach, Netflix appears to be granting that wish. The first teaser trailer for the Oscar-nominated “Frances Ha” and “Marriage Story” writer/director’s new film “White Noise” has arrived, which finds Adam Driver and Greta Gerwig playing a married couple in the 1980s trying to keep their family safe from… something.

The teaser trailer is purposefully obtuse, as is the official logline. Based on the novel of the same name by Don DeLillo, the film is described as “at once hilarious and horrifying, lyrical and absurd, ordinary and apocalyptic,” going on to say the story “dramatizes a contemporary American family’s attempts to deal with the mundane conflicts of everyday life while grappling with the universal mysteries of love, death, and the possibility of happiness in an uncertain world.

The New York Film Festival has announced that Noah Baumbach’s “White Noise” will open the 60th edition of the festival on September 30. The film, which stars Adam Driver, Greta Gerwig, and Don Cheadle, will make its North American premiere at the festival. Ahead of NYFF, the long-in-the-works Don DeLillo adaptation is also set to open the Venice International Film Festival on August 31.

Adapting the 1985 postmodern classic, the film follows a renowned professor of Hitler studies at a U.S. liberal arts college (Adam Driver) who, along with his fourth wife (Greta Gerwig) and children, faces an “airborne toxic event” hanging over his town that threatens everyone’s lives. A month after making its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, Noah Baumbach’s film adaptation of Don DeLillo’s acclaimed novel White Noise will open the 2022 New York Film Festival.

The Netflix title, starring Adam Driver and Greta Gerwig, will have its North American premiere at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall in Manhattan on Sept. 30.

Baumbach’s adaptation of White Noise, the 1985 book long considered to be unfilmable, stars Driver as a professor of Hitler Studies in the Midwest whose suburban town life and marriage to his secretive wife (Gerwig) are upended after a nearby accident creates a frightening airborne toxic event.

Paramount Pictures is calling home its speciality label Paramount Players, folding the lower-budget and genre operation under the stewardship of the studio’s larger motion picture group. As a result of the decision, current Paramount Players chief Jeremy Kramer is exiting his post.

Paramount motion picture group co-heads Daria Cercek and Michael Ireland will run point on the unit moving forward. In light of the reorganization, Cercek and Ireland have promoted three executives — Ashley Brucks, previously senior executive vice president of production, will now serve as Paramount Players head of development. Jonathan Gonda and Vanessa Joyce will both be promoted to EVPs of production, having previously served as SVPs.

Exclusive: Paramount Players is being merged under Paramount Motion Picture Group co-heads Mike Ireland and Daria Cercek. As a result of the strategic realignment, Jeremy Kramer will be stepping down as president of Paramount Players. Kramer previously reported to Paramount Pictures president and CEO Brian Robbins.

It’s last call for a number of great movies leaving HBO and HBO Max in March. Fortunately, the month is also packed with new movies and shows, but if you were planning to revisit any of the films below, now’s your chance.

The good news is you won’t have to squeeze in any binge-watching – there are no series leaving HBO Max this month, just films. Fresh off the long-awaited arrival of Zack Snyder’s Justice League (a.k.a. the fabled Snyder Cut), HBO Max has no need to appease fandom culture in April 2021. But the streaming service is gonna do it anyway!

The most notable new release for HBO Max this month is the HBO series The Nevers. This show, created by Joss Whedon, is set in a 19th century steampunk London and finds a sizable portion of the population (predominantly women) having been “Touched” by mysterious paranormal powers. There’s an interesting bit of irony at play here, as HBO Max is following up the Snyder Cut with a show created by his original Justice League replacement. Or at least there could have been an interesting bit of irony here, if Whedon had not bowed out from the show and been enthusiastically left out of the marketing material by HBO.

Abramorama has acquired U.S. distribution rights to Soros, the Jesse Dylan-directed documentary feature about billionaire activist George Soros from Vital Pictures. The film, which had its U.S. premiere at the Telluride Film Festival, will get a live streaming premiere on November 18 on the film’s website followed by a release on Watch Now @ Home starting on November 20th. Famous for betting against the Bank of England in 1992 and making a billion dollars in one day, Soros is maligned by ideologues on both the left and the right for daring to tackle the world’s problems and putting his money behind his fight – from free elections and freedom of the press to civil rights for minorities.

Paramount Pictures Motion Picture Group President Emma Watts has hired former 20th Century Studios executive Jeremy Kramer as president of Paramount Players.

Variety reported on Oct. 2 that Kramer was circling the post. Paramount Players was created as a genre label by Brian Robbins, the founder and former CEO of AwesomenessTV. Robbins left the studio to run Nickelodeon in 2018.

The hiring of Kramer, who will report to Watts, was announced Tuesday. He will oversee the films made under the Paramount Players label, which has the task of creating genre films from “unique, contemporary” voices and properties. Kramer, who will report to his former Fox colleague and now Paramount Pictures Motion Picture Group President Emma Watts, begins his new position effective immediately.

Paramount confirmed the scoop Tuesday. In his new role, Kramer will oversee the films made under the Paramount Players label, which is committed to creating hit genre films from unique, contemporary voices and properties.

In addition to Kramer, Ashley Brucks, who previously served as EVP Production at Paramount Pictures, will be moving to Paramount Players where she will be Senior EVP Production.

Hulu is out with its list of everything new coming and everything leaving the streaming service in the month of October.

Highlights include seasons four and seven of “90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days,” Season 8 of “My 600-lb Life” featuring the late star Coliesa McMillian, and a bunch of cooking shows including seasons nine and 10 of “Bizarre Foods With Andrew Zimmern,” Season 13 of “Cutthroat Kitchen” and Season 18 of “Hell’s Kitchen.” All of those come out Oct. 1.

For Halloween, catch the Hulu Original series “Monsterland” out Oct. 2.

On Oct. 14, catch the season premiere of “The Bachelorette” just one day after it airs on ABC.

Leaving Hulu on Oct. 31 are all five of the “Twilight” movies, “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and “Footloose.”

It’s almost spooky season, and the various streaming services are making sure that subscribers have got plenty of great horror content for all ages available to watch this Halloween. Given the current state of the world, this All Hallow’s Eve will see more folks staying in than ever before, so we’ll need as much choice when it comes to finding a perfect movie or TV show to dive into as possible. Thankfully, Netflix, Disney Plus, HBO Max, Hulu and Amazon Prime Video have got us covered.

Of course, there’s much more beyond just horror content arriving across the streaming world this October, with the first day of the month launching hundreds of new titles on all the various sites. There are also a few key highlights scattered throughout the month. Arguably the biggest is Aaron Sorkin’s much-anticipated all-star drama based on real events, The Trial of the Chicago 7,...

October is officially spooky season and it’s nice to know that some streaming services (*cough*Disney+*cough*) are taking that responsibility very seriously.

For its new releases in October 2020, Hulu is premiering the Marvel TV universe’s first-ever outright horror series. Helstrom debuts on Oct. 16 and follows Marvel Comics character Daimon Helstrom as he struggles against all manner of demonic forces. Another spooky treat arriving this month is Monsterland on Oct. 2. This anthology will feature scary stories from around the country.

On the movie side of things, Hulu is bringing out Clive Barker adaptation Books of Blood on Oct. 7 and Bad Hair on Oct. 23. Thank you, Hulu, for your spooky service.

There are a lot of non-Hulu TV shows of note arriving in October as well. The final season of Homeland will be available to stream on Oct. 26. The premiere of Saturday Night Live‘s 46th season will arrive on Oct.

We’re now just over halfway through September, so let’s turn our attention to what’s coming to Hulu next month. Every October, the streaming service celebrates “Huluween” by adding a bunch of new Halloween-themed content. And this year is no different, with countless classic movies going up on the site that you’ll want to check out to get you in the spooky mood as well as a few notable originals.

These include anthology series Monsterland (October 2nd) and horror comedy film Bad Hair (October 23rd), starring Lena Waithe, Vanessa Williams and Laverne Cox, from Dear White People director Justin Simien. Superhero fans will also want to catch supernatural-themed Marvel series Helstrom (October 16th). The final production from Marvel Television, it’s sadly already doomed to just the one season.

All eight Harry Potter movies, which had a brief run on HBO Max when the WarnerMedia streaming service launched in May, are moving to Peacock this fall.

The availability on NBCUniversal’s streaming outlet, which went live in April before a national expansion in July, was specified as a six-month run starting in October and lasting into 2021. The shift aligns the films’ streaming presence with a broader licensing deal for the films, encompassing NBCUniversal TV networks. NBCU’s Universal Studios theme parks also have a popular Potter-themed attraction.

The world’s largest obstacle course is coming back to television after TBS ordered a reboot of Wipeout.

Endemol Shine North America is producing a 20-episode run for the WarnerMedia-backed cable network.

The series ran for seven seasons and 130 episodes on ABC between 2008 and 2014. Created by Matt Kunitz and Scott Larsen, the series, which was originally filmed at Sable Ranch in Santa Clarita, went on to become a massive international hit with local versions in more than 30 territories including the UK and Germany.

The obstacle course competition will return with new format twists. Each game has been designed into three rounds and now features a three-stage, obstacle course consisting of multiple strategy and decision points designed to further challenge, and wear out, the stamina of the competitors. ABC has ordered a pilot for an untitled single-camera comedy from Hannah Simone.

The “New Girl” alum will star in, write, and executive produce the project, which is inspired by Simone’s family. In the series, Hannah (Simone) and her Indian-American immigrant father have always been close, but after she admits to herself that she’s in a dead-end job and he reveals his marriage is over, they’re starting over together and each finding a new path. This new chapter will either make them crazy close or just crazy.

Along with Simone, Matt Fusfeld and Alex Cuthbertson will also write and executive produce. ABC Studios will produce. Fusfeld and Cuthbertson are currently under an overall deal at the studio.
