    Stylish entertainer

This film is an absolute delight for Rajesh Khanna films. In the first half of the film, he plays an arrogant rich man who thinks money can buy anything in this world. Then he loses his eye sight & on regaining it, comes to know that the donor, Rakesh Roshan is no more. He then tries to make amends to Rakesh's wife Reena Roy & her son & wins their faith in the end.

Reena Roy & Rakesh Roshan have given fine performances. The music by Hridhaynath Mangeshkar is pretty good. The film is ably directed by Surendra Mohan who keeps the films going with good twists & turns.

But the movie belongs to the Superstar Rajesh Khanna. He looks handsome & his costumes are excellent. The Hindu in its review said " Rajesh Khanna breaks fresh ground providing the wanted depth".

When I watched it in the theatre, there were whistles & claps in the the scene where he purchases all the tickets for the Reena Roy show & tears it in front of her to show his superiority.

There are many other scenes where Kaka excels - the scene where Kaka makes Shakti Kapoor to confess, his helplessness when he is blind, his expressions in the Holi song etc.,

Rajesh Khanna has proved many a time that he can hold his own even in heroine oriented films & "Dhanwan" is no exception.

A classic characterization of negative character

The film contains very good story with classic performance of Rajesh Khanna in a negative role (till interval) and then as a changed person with positive thinking. Rajesh Khanna played both the contradictory shades of the character in this film as a superb performer with brilliant depth touches of inner feelings of human being and it is beyond doubt that no other Indian actor/star would have been able to do real justice with this character in his comparison. The proudy look, which he reflects through his facial expression is an outstanding example for Indian film world. At the same time his facial expression in the Hospital, where he was admitted during his blind-ness, occurred due to an accident, is simply brilliant, wherein he shows his helplessness due to non-availability of pair of eyes to be transplanted in him. This scene can not be expressed with words, it is only a depth feeling of any human being.

Rajesh Khanna the actor is outstanding!

I think this was my first Rajesh Khanna movie, saw it as a kid. And I was stunned by the man's performance. I had no idea that he was a superstar etc and basically hadn't seen many movies. Rajesh Khanna was a great actor who just didn't get great writers and directors after a point and got typecast. This is one of his best performances where he plays a arrogant rich guy who cannot stomach rejection from his employee's daughter and seeks all ways to destroy her life only to be humbled by a personal tragedy. His regret and transformation is fantastic.

    Rajesh at his best

This is another classic movie of Rajesh Khanna the SuperStar. He is playing a role of a rich man who does not care for GOD. He is after Reena Roy who in fact likes Rakesh Roshan. Rakesh ultimately dies and donates his eyes to Rajesh Khanna who had met with an accident. The character of Rajesh Khanna changes and he becomes a good man. The movie shows his excellent capabilities as an actor. The music of the movie is above average and one song is still remembered but it could have been better. The Holi song is good too. Unfortunately the movie is not available in Indian Market either on CD/DVD and we are craving to see the movie again as it has certain scenes which were later copied and used in different movies. It is a must see, if available for all movie lovers and they will understand what a Great Star Rajesh Khanna is.

    • Trivia
When the Mirza brothers were writing the script of Dhanwan, they were writing it with only Rajesh Khanna in their mind as they thought and decided that only Kaka will suit the role and their condition was, if a filmaker wants the script, he must take Rajesh Khanna in the tittle role. Filmaker Sohanlal Kanwar was very interested to make film on that script, when he heard it and Kanwar, wanted his regular hero Manoj Kumar ( be-imaan, pehchan, sanyasi) to play the lead, but the Mirza brothers only wanted Rajesh Khanna. As Sohanlal Kanwar wanted the script. Sohanlal Kanwar had to accept their condition.
