        Fun, fluffy, wonderful

Susan Roces sparkles in this fluffy musical with an ensemble cast. I saw this movie several times as a kid growing up in Manila. They replayed it every afternoon on TV one summer and my sisters and I would watch it each time.

Plot-wise it was silly and simple. Susan Roces is the lead and she and several of her girlfriends are boarding at Mrs. Payme's Dormitory. Mrs. Payme (pay me) favors another young woman at the dorm who is the rival of Susan Roces for the affection of a young man who has several guy friends. Pretty much you can tell that the group of guys and the group of girls are going to pair up, but Susan Roces has to fight against her rival to get her man.

Just a fun movie about simpler times. What I'd do to see it again...

Susan Roces is good but Zeny Zabala is at her best here!

Easily one of the most memorable classics from the early sixties, this movie was a staple for afternoon viewing for many years, even decades. And it continues to age well, barely showing any dated notions if not for the fashions of the era. This might as well be the best Filipino movie about dance crazes. Perennial villain Zeny Zabala shines while showing her dancing prowess as well in what could have been another early 60s Susan Roces movie. The story revolves around a popular TV contest during that era, participated in by a gang of dormitory girls led by Susan Roces. And then there are their requisite band of suitors, led by a squeaky clean looking Jose Mari Gonzales. Sparks fly between Roces and Zabala- the girl favored by the dormitory owner - in their rivalry for Gonzales. Special appearances include a very young and thin German Moreno as Susan Roces dancing partner. On the dance floor, Zeny Zabala is paired with the very funny veteran actor Venchito Galvez. The rest of the fine cast is easily a roster of soon to be famous stars of the late sixties and early seventies. Watch out for Rosemarie, Bert Leroy Jr., and the late Loretta Marquez among others.

Susan Roces stars in this funny flick!

This is really funny! I wish Sampaguita pictures distributes these in DVDs because I will be one of the first people to get a copy. There is another movie with Boy Alano in it that I used to watch on Channel 9 in the afternoon after school. It's about these brothers who were all gay and their father was a general in the army, so they were all sent to boot camp to "straighten" out. I want a copy of that one, too! For me to remember these movies vividly after decades means they have the qualities that are truly unforgettable. After the Sampaguita and LVN picture heydays, Philippine movies were never made the same way again. It's sad.
