B Subhash - Mithunda jodi lost its mojo

Pyar Ke Naam Qurbaan review :

B Subhash - Mithunda jodi spelt box office success throughout 80s with super hits like Disco Dancer (1982), Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki (1984), Dance Dance (1986) and Commando (1988). But by 1990, their magic had started waning with Pyar Ke Naam Qurbaan - a routine actioner which didnt exactly set the box office on fire.

Mithunda had two heroines for himself- amirzadi Dimple whom he loves and his fellow garib Mandakini who loves him. The love triangle is shattered by Dimple's bro Danny who kidnaps Manda and rapes her.

In one of the cringiest court scene, we have Yunus Pervez cross questioning Mandakini to the extent of asking her to show her bitten body to all.

Pyar Ke Naam Qurbaan had some good compositions by B Subhash staple Bappi Lahiri. The title song is still memorable.

But overall, the film wasnt as impactful as expected. I saw the film at Badal Bijlee cinema, Matunga in its first week amidst housefull crowds but the film collapsed by second week to emerge a flop. B Subhash went on to make more duds like Pyar Ka Saaya (1991) and Nachnewale Gaanewale (1991) throughout the 90s. He collaborated one last time with Mithunda in Classic Dance Of Love in 2005 which was another disaster. A super hit director- actor jodi came to an end!

    Regards, Sumeet Nadkarni.

    Very Average

Pyar Ke Naam Qurbaan Directed By B. Subhash is A Romantic Action Movie. It Was Last Movie Of Mithun - Subhash Hit Combination, Unfortunately It Was A Flop. Script Has Nothing New To Offer. Screenplay is Better in The First Half Compared To Second Half Which is Predictable. Dialogues & Action is Fine.

Rich, Arrogant & Rude Devika Singh(Dimple Kapadia) is Saved by Billo(Mithun Chakraborty), A Motor Mechanic From The Local Goons. Devika is Sister Of Yashwant Singh(Danny Danzongpa) Who Has Been The Cause Of Trouble For People In The Village. Billo Works For Gauri(Mandakini) Along With Gulfam(Paintal) in Her Automobile Repair Shop. Devika Hates Billo But Somehow When He Saves Her From Daku Shankar(Gulshan Grover), They Fall In Love. Meanwhile Yashwant Singh Physically Assaults Gauri & She Commits Suicide. Revenge Begins Like Any Other Movie.

Acting Wise, Mithun Chakraborty is Better With His Dialogues. Mandakini Has Less Screen Space But She Does Really Well. Dimple Kapadia & Danny Danzongpa Are As Usual. Raza Murad & Paintal Are Just Fine. Gulshan Grover Has Only Two Scenes.

Music By Bappi Lahiri is Quite Average. "Title Track" By Vijay Benedict & Shobha Joshi And "Tarsa Hoon Main" By Sudesh Bhosle Are Better Compositions Of The Movie.

    Overall Strictly For Mithun Fans.

    Typical but enjoyable

Pyar Ke Naam Qurbaan is one of Babbar Subhash's many collaborations with Mithun Chakraborty. The latter used to play different versions of his consummate hero persona in all these films. Here he is the same as in other films except his job is that of a motor mechanic, and he is as charismatic as he always is. This film is not among the best of these pictures, but it's enjoyable, and it pairs him up with one of the big leading ladies of the era, Dimple Kapadia. Kapadia plays a rather unusual role, that of a tough, arrogant and cruel princess, and she overplays her cruelty but is extraordinarily good looking. The love-to-hate relationship between the two is quite fun, while through the characters of Dimple's brother (Danny Denzongpa) and Mithun's boss (Mandakini) we get to see some pretty harrowing portions which are much less so. Mithun and Dimple make for a nice couple, Denzongpa is the typical villain, while Mandakini, who was Mithun's leading lady in previous films, is now relegated to a supporting role shortly before she retires from Hindi cinema. Her role is ends up having most of the viewers' sympathy. The later sequences are full of action for those who like it. The film's music is quite nice - the title track in particular is beautiful, much more than the film, which is watchable but naturally nothing to write home about.
