When Reese Witherspoon first debuted on-screen in the early '90s, nobody could've anticipated she'd become one of the richest women in America (according to Forbes). Her career began as a teen, when an audition for "The Man in the Moon" landed Witherspoon the lead role. The young actress' career blossomed over the next two decades with coming-of-age movies, romantic dramas and comedies, and biopics that proved her acting chops were no fluke.
Beyond her dozens of roles, Witherspoon has also put in the work behind the scenes with her production company HelloSunshine, who have been behind not only Witherspoon's own projects but massive success stories like David Fincher's "Gone Girl." Between her producing resume and her philanthropic efforts, it's no surprise that her career in 2025 is a product of good will and hard work.

Back in Action is headlined by Cameron Diaz’s comeback after 11 years away from acting, but Netflix’s most viewed weekend premiere in nearly three years is also Seth Gordon’s return to feature filmmaking.
Gordon — who’s most known as the director behind hit comedies such as Four Christmases (2008), Horrible Bosses (2011) and Identity Thief (2013) — hasn’t made a feature film since 2017’s Baywatch, and while his four films have averaged a box office gross of nearly $183 million each, his absence coincides with the comedy genre’s steady decline at the box office and widespread disappearance from major studio development slates. Gordon doesn’t have the definitive answer for why comedy is no longer the dominant force it once was at multiplexes, but he speculates that it could be a result of the hectic political climate that’s been in effect since 2017.
“[2017] was the time when comedy started to die down.

As the director of movies like Four Christmases, Horrible Bosses, and the Baywatch movie, filmmaker Seth Gordon has worked with some of the biggest names in Hollywood. But he was particularly impressed with Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx, the headliners of his new film, Back in Action. Gordon told People in a recent interview that the costars “took turns in a really deep way supporting each other,” as Diaz returned to the screen after a decade-long break and Foxx recovered from a stroke during production. “Anyone who was on set will tell you [Jamie] was the biggest cheerleader and hype man for [Diaz], and really for everybody involved, but especially for her,” Gordon said. “So she got to return the favor in that way spiritually.” Netflix In the new Netflix movie, Diaz and Foxx play married ex-spies drawn back into the espionage life. And Gordon was wowed by the rapport between the actors,...

Over the years, writer/director Seth Gordon has become known for his work on projects like Baywatch, Horrible Bosses, and Four Christmases, but he actually made his directorial debut in 2007 on The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, a documentary about die-hard gamers who were competing against each other in classic arcade games. The film is available to stream on Prime Video, and there was at one time talk of it getting a full-length feature adaptation that unfortunately never came to fruition. During a recent interview with Collider’s Steve Weintraub to promote his newly released Netflix movie, Back in Action, Gordon was asked how close they came to making the King of Kong movie, and his answer as to why it never happened will shock you:...

’Twas the weekend before Christmas… With the holiday season upon us, many of us are starting to revisit some of our of Christmas favourites. I actually went to see a 4K re-release of the original Black Christmas last night here in Montreal. There’s something comforting upon returning to our old favourites every year, whether they be traditional Christmas classics, or perhaps something a little more modern, like Die Hard, which, despite many claiming otherwise, has totally established itself as a Christmas classic over the years.
Whatever the case, there are certainly Loads of Christmas movies, with everything from old-time classics like It’s A Wonderful Life or some of the many versions of A Christmas Carol (the Alistair Sim version is the best Imo), or something like Love Actually, which is virtually inescapable at this time of the year.
With that in mind, we’d love to figure out just...

Grab your eggnog and head under the mistletoe for a holiday kiss.
I’m a romantic at heart, and holiday romantic comedies are one of my favorite genres. I write them (with my wife), I watch them, and I love talking about them. So it begs the question: what’s the best streamer out there for watching Christmas rom-coms? Let me save you a (eggnog-induced) headache and tell you. Chuck Norris hasn’t starred in a movie since 2012, when he picked up Sylvester Stallone’s call and became Booker in The Expendables 2, a man so tough that a cobra allegedly died after biting him. Despite that, he is still cherished by action movie fans. Norris is the subject of many internet memes, many of which joke about his grit and no-nonsense attitude. He is a United States Air Force vet after all, and has a black belt in Tang Soo Do, judo, and Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

December 1 has officially been and gone, so get your Christmas decorations up, turn on those fairy lights, and prepare for a festive movie marathon. Our Little Secret is a reminder to watch another Kristin Chenoweth Christmas film that hits some of the same notes. Netflix’s latest festive comedy follows two resentful exes who are forced to spend Christmas together after realizing that their current partners are brother and sister. It’s a fun, lighthearted story that explores how different people celebrate the holiday season, and how the magic of Christmas can spark romance in the most unexpected of places. Our Little Secret stars Lindsay Lohan and Kirsitn Chenoweth in two of their most entertaining roles in recent memory.

With Christmas just one week (and one day) away, we wanted to ask you, the people, what your favorite Christmas Movie is? It doesn’t have to be the movie you think is the best, just the one that you eagerly anticipate watching every year. Is it the timeless tale of an angel getting its wings in It’s A Wonderful Life? or perhaps the under-appreciated (and genuinely hilarious) R rated The Night Before is how you kick off your holiday season?
Do you look forward to seeing Jack Skellington discover the true meaning of Christmas in the Christmas Movie Classic The Nightmare Before Christmas or watching Kevin McCallister take down the Wet/ Sticky Bandits in Home Alone 1&2 or perhaps seeing Clark W. The star of one of the most iconic Christmas films of all time has waded into one of the holiday season’s most divisive annual debates: Is Die Hard a Christmas movie?
Peter Billingsley says yes — and in the season finale episode of his A Cinematic Christmas Journey podcast, which releases Dec. 15, he does his best to convince Die Hard cinematographer Jan de Bont.
“I mean, they didn’t think Die Hard was a Christmas movie. They happened to set it then, but the filmmakers weren’t intending that,” Billingsley explains. Instead, like many classics over the decades, its meaning to fans evolved. “This movie creates its own life, is in the culture and, over time, people discover it. It’s pretty great to see how that life can move in ways that the filmmakers never intended, or even ever imagined.” (Watch an exclusive clip from the episode below.)

Buddy's infectious sense of wonder captures the message of never being too busy to enjoy life's simple pleasures in Elf. Everyone celebrates the warmth and openness of the holidays. Elf pays homage to classic Christmas movies like A Christmas Story and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Ralphie from A Christmas Story even makes a cameo in Elf. The scenes in Gimbel's department store in Elf reference Miracle on 34th Street, juxtaposing commercialism with Buddy's childlike glee for the magic of Christmas. Buddy's snowflake-making also references Edward Scissorhands.
Elf is packed with tons of references to well-known films like The Godfather and Lord of the Rings, but even the biggest fans might not know some things about Elf, including these classic Christmas movies that make it a holiday favorite. It’s a lean month for new original content on HBO/Max. November will see the return of two scripted series in Julia and Rap Sh!t, both of which are debuting their respective second seasons, but this month’s fresh highlight is likely to be Bookie, a new comedy series from the partnership of The Big Bang Theory creator Chuck Lorre, and Nick Bakay. The show tracks an LA bookie called Danny (Sebastian Maniscalco), whose business is in peril as California movies to legalize sports gambling.
Elsewhere in November, there quite a few interesting documentaries to keep an eye on, and two that jump out as “must watch”. The first is Albert Brooks: Defending My Life, which chronicles the aging comedian’s life and career. The second is the previously-released Little Richard: I Am Everything, which tries to peel back the whitewashed canon of Richard Penniman in a true...

Yes, this has been floating around movie-nerd internet for some time, however, in the tradition of this column, that the last Friday before Christmas shall be an alternate Eyes Wide Shut poster, here we are. This 'Hallmark Christmas Movie' spoof was created for a screening of the film at the Bíó Paradís cinema in Reykjavik by Icelandic comedian, illustrator, and cartoonist Hugleikeur Dagsson. Using the more or less forgotten Vince Vaughn, Reese Witherspoon holiday vehicle, Four Christmases, as a template, Dagsson not only subverts the 'lazy holiday-themed content' trend that has been exploding on various streaming platforms in the past few years, but it also foregrounds Stanley Kubrick's feature-length emasculation of super-star Tom Cruise by emphasizing the height difference between himself and ex-spouse Nicole Kidman...

If you are one of the people who watch "A Christmas Story" yearly as a holiday ritual, you are in good company — really good company.
Peter Billingsley, who starred as Ralphie Parker in the 1983 film, and his Wild West Picture Show Productions partner Vince Vaughn have started a new video podcast called "A Cinematic Christmas Journey." They're tackling films like "Home Alone," "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation," "Four Christmases," "It's a Wonderful Life," and "The Grinch." Of course, they're also breaking down "A Christmas Story."
Joining this episode are Ian Petrella, who played Randy, Scott Schwartz, who played Flick, and R.D. Robb, who played Schwartz, with Billingsley as co-host, along with Nick Schenk, who wrote the script for the new sequel "A Christmas Story Christmas."
The guys begin by talking about how the film did at the box office, and despite good reviews, it wasn't expected to do well, it seems.

If you grew up anywhere around cold weather and snow, you might already know this, but if you're new to icy conditions, here is a public service announcement: Do not touch your tongue to a flagpole when it drops below freezing. Even if someone triple-dog dares you. Of course, if you've seen the 1983 film "A Christmas Story," you probably already know this. You likely have, as TNT and TBS do a marathon of the film every holiday.
This was one of those moments that fills me with remembered dread, as I almost attempted this before I saw "A Christmas Story" for the first time. I wondered how they did this and if poor Scott Schwartz, who played the unfortunate Flick, was okay.

There is an irony at play with Bob Clark's 1983 film "A Christmas Story." Set in 1940, "A Christmas Story" told an aggressively unromantic story of what childhood looked like at the time. It was a movie meant to undo any notions of warm nostalgia, freeing Christmastime from its halcyon and clichéd Rockwellian idylls. The young Ralphie (Peter Billingsley) was no well-behaved moppet, but a foul-mouthed, bratty child who longed to fire a weapon. He hated his school, and vengefully beat up schoolyard bullies. Santa was scary. The family Christmas tree was ruined. Christmas dinner had to be eaten at a Chinese restaurant, one of the only places open on December 25. Tradition, "A Christmas Story" posits, is an embarrassing joke.
The irony comes in with the film's eventual reputation. "A Christmas Story" became a seasonal classic, and the Gen-x children who grew up watching it happily proselytized its comedic power. Eventually,...

The last movie anybody would have expected a sequel to is A Christmas Story, but 39 years later, A Christmas Story Christmas has just hit HBO Max. The movie is set 33 years after the original film, and it sees Ralphie returning home to Indiana after his father's death. A Christmas Story Christmas is just as funny as the original and unexpectedly heartfelt, and it sees the return of a lot of the original cast too.
A legacy sequel following the original movie's release by almost 40 years is sure to have tons of fascinating development stories. But none of them are remotely negative, and between getting the cast back together, rebuilding the entire street, and endlessly rewatching the original movie, A Christmas Story Christmas' production was just as wholesome as the film.
It Was In Development For 4 Years
According to Collider, A Christmas Story Christmas had been in development for four years.
