Best thing about being a Hoosier

Being a Hoosier doesn't necessarily mean playing basketball or being an Indy 500 spectator. We also have an abundance of little nooks and crannies scattered around the state, all containing unique features and stories. OK, all states possess such attractions, but c'mon, Hoosiers have gotten a lot of deceptive press.

The extremely handsome and white-haired Michael Atwood injects a suave version of Hoosier humor and repartee into broad ranging stories about Indiana, ranging from hog oilers to serial killers. Yes, serial killers. There's more than corn in Indiana, to coin a phrase.

Until I began watching this show, my opinion of my adopted home state was relatively low. Sure, we have some pretty decent universities, but in comparison other states are meccas for higher education. Sure we have some good museums, but we don't hold a candle to New York. Then came "Across Indiana"--the light broke out on unique places and people, and state self-confidence returned to this transplant with a bad case of wanderlust.

I've traveled to some of the places mentioned in the show and have had a hoot of a time. I've purchased wooden spoons from a store front with the manufacturing shop in plain view...gave one to a visitor from the UK, who wrote later that he wanted more! I've gotten stained glass from the only remaining table-poured glass manufacturer in the state, who incidentally routinely ships sheet glass to Japan. I've visited--and sampled profusely--at an award winning vineyard located within an hour of my front door. I've sampled and bought a jug of poplar syrup from a fella who now sells to gourmet chefs around the world. Besides, who needs the Bahamas when the humidity during the summer turns Indy into a virtual rain forest!

Sure, I'd like to see London, like to see France. "Across Indiana" illuminates that a good time may be had for all without flying for hours to see some dumb iron tower or a bunch of tumbling down castles.

    Michael, you go girl...um...guy!
