The Walt Disney Studios has revealed the official Lilo & Stitch trailer, which gives you a new look at the live-action reimagining of Disney’s 2002 animated classic.

Lilo & Stitch is the wildly funny and touching story of a lonely Hawaiian girl and the fugitive alien who helps to mend her broken family.

The film is directed by award-winning filmmaker Dean Fleischer Camp, with a screenplay by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright and Mike Van Waes.

The movie stars Sydney Elizebeth Agudong, Billy Magnussen, Tia Carrere, Hannah Waddingham and Chris Sanders, with Courtney B. Vance and Zach Galifianakis, and introduces Maia Kealoha.

Lilo & Stitch is produced by Jonathan Eirich, p.g.a. and Dan Lin, with Tom Peitzman, Ryan Halprin, Louie Provost, Thomas Schumacher serving as executive producers.

Rated PG for action, peril and thematic elements, the anticipated film will open in theaters on May 23, 2025.

Updated, March 12: Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch approaches, with chaos stemming from the blue creature and the young Hawaiian girl starting in theaters Memorial Day weekend.

“We have apprehended a dangerous experiment,” a commanding voice starts off the official trailer for the film. “Where is he?”

Subordinates answering to their leader in the command center of a spaceship report that “he escaped” after he found the police cruisers and “uh, took the red one.”

As Stitch cackles in the machine and enters the Earth’s atmosphere, Maia Kealoha’s Lilo spots his space ship from her home, thinking it’s a shooting star.

“I wish for a friend,” she says as the green glowing projectile hurtles toward the beaches of Hawaii, cutting to a sequence of Lilo getting pushed down during a hula lesson. “Like a best friend.”

The Walt Disney Studios continued the effective marketing campaign for the new live-action family adventure Lilo & Stitch during the Super Bowl. You can now watch the Big Game spot and the previous two teasers online.

The marketing takes a page from how the original animated film was promoted. For that campaign, Stitch invaded other Disney properties such as The Little Mermaid (1989), Beauty and the Beast (1991), Aladdin (1992) and The Lion King (1994). For decades, the Disney Channel has been a front-runner in the world of original cartoon series. Multiple generations have grown up in different eras of the channel's history, with each decade seeming to have its own highlights. In retrospect, however, it can be difficult to gauge exactly which series have truly reigned supreme.

Stitch returns! Disney unveiled the first look at its live-action “Lilo & Stitch,” in which the adorable blue extraterrestrial creature terrorizes an impressively constructed sandcastle.

Dean Fleischer Camp, the filmmaker behind A24’s charming indie comedy “Marcel the Shell With Shoes On,” is directing “Lilo & Stitch.” Sanders, who co-directed the original 2002 film, is reprising his voice role of Stitch, while Maia Kealoha (as Lilo), Zach Galifianakis, Sydney Agudong, Billy Magnussen and Courtney B. Vance are joining the cast.

Ohana means family, and family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten! Disney previewed a taste of the live-action version of “Lilo & Stitch” at D23 on Friday, starring Maia Kealoha as Lilo Pelekai.

The live action movie will be only in theaters in summer 2025. Disney’s release calendar shows an open slot on May 23, though the date wasn’t specified at D23.

Chris Sanders' and Dean De Blois' 2002 animated film "Lilo & Stitch" was released by Disney and was part of what might be considered a "low" period in the studio's history. Disney had a series of bangers in the 1990s, a period often referred to as the Disney Renaissance. That period came to an end in 2000 with the release of "Dinosaur," however, a technology experiment featuring life-like dinosaurs realized in CGI. Chris Sanders is in final negotiations to voice the character of Stitch in Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Tia Carrere, who originally voiced Nani in the first film, will also play the newly-created Mrs. Kekoa, while Amy Hill will star as a new character named Tūtū.

Chu was attached to the project in 2020, but his deal was never finalized.

Harry Shearer, a white actor who has been voicing Black doctor Julius Hibbert since the character’s debut more than 30 years ago, is stepping down from the role, TVLine has confirmed. In fact, Shearer’s final episode as Dr. Hibbert (Season 32’s “Diary Queen”) aired this past Sunday. Shearer will continue to voice his myriad other Simpsons roles, including Ned Flanders, Principal Skinner and Mr. Burns.

LONDON -- Buena Vista International Television said Wednesday that it has extended its output deal with German free television channel group ProSiebenSat.1. The deal includes first-run movies from Walt Disney Pictures, Touchstone Pictures and Miramax Films such as the forthcoming sequel to The Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and The Aviator. Under the terms of the deal, ProSiebenSat.1 channel Kabel 1 will expand its current branded blocks of Walt Disney Co. programming from two to three hours a week and will add new a new weekly Jetix-branded time slot. Kids titles airing on the branded blocks will include new episodes of Kim Possible, Lilo & Stitch and Timon and Pumbaa. The deals were announced by Alison Homewood, BVITV vp sales for Europe, Middle East and Asia. "The ProSiebenSat.1 Group channels have been an excellent showcase for our programming, so we are pleased to be continuing to work together to help drive the channels with our upcoming content," Homewood said in a statement.
