Here’s a trivia question for everyone: What’s the connection between Star Trek: The Original Series and the movies The Goonies, Throw Momma from the Train, and Scrooged? The answer is… Logan Ramsey, the late, great character actor whose career spanned from 1948 to 1999 and who would have turned 104 on March 21, 2025.
Star Trek fans will recall that Ramsey low-key chewed the scenery as Proconsul Claudius Marcus in the Star Trek: The Original Series episode “Bread and Circuses.” He’s the character who gave his slave, Drusilla (Lois Jewell), to Captain Kirk (William Shatner), so that Kirk could enjoy “some last hours as a man” before his execution. Sadly, Ramsey died of a heart attack at the age of 79 in 2000.
In addition to Star Trek, he counted among his many theater, movie, and television credits The Devil’s Disciple and The Great Indoors, both on stage; the films Head, Walking Tall, Any Which Way You Can,...

Now in its 63rd year of existence, the James Bond franchise has experienced its share of turbulence, but though it all has managed to adapt its formula to the ever-changing times without losing its old-school sense of fun. Even when an individual film fails to deliver the goods, fans are still guaranteed the globetrotting exhilaration — be it gripping or goofy — of several major action set pieces jam-packed with practical stunt work. The viewer also knows there will be an array of new gadgets, and they can be fairly certain Bond will team up with a stunning beautiful foil who, now that we live in more enlightened times, will prove every bit his equal in the combat department.
There's also a pleasing sense of continuity with the actors. Starting with Sean Connery, Bond aficionados came to love actors like Bernard Lee as M, Lois Maxwell as Miss Moneypenny, and Desmond Llewelyn...

One of Dwayne Johnson's earliest and most underrated action flicks is definitely one to watch if you're a Rock completionist, but you need to get a move on as it leaves Prime Video on February 1. The movie in question is Walking Tall, a remake of the 1973 film of the same name, which is inspired by the true story of Sheriff Buford Pusser but updates the setting and characters for a modern audience. Released in 2004, the film marked an early step in Johnson’s journey to becoming one of the biggest action stars on the planet as he transitioned from full time wrestling with WWE, and saw him taking on the role of Chris Vaughn, a military veteran returning to his small town only to find it overrun by corruption. Hate it when that happens, don't you?...

Dwayne Johnson is undeniably one of Hollywood's most charismatic and sought-after leading men, having made his silver screen debut in the 2001 blockbuster hit The Mummy Returns, a performance that would help kickstart his lucrative and enduring acting career. The WWE wrestler-turned-action hero has appeared in an array of fan-favorite hits over the years, including Central Intelligence, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Moana, and the Fast & Furious franchise, though back in the early 2000s, he was still trying to make a name for himself and prove he meant business when it came to dominating the cinema.

Dwayne Johnson remains one of the most recognizable actors working in Hollywood today, and is widely known for starring in and producing family-friendly fare. Getting his start as a wrestler in the WWE, Johnson's first major movie role was as the Scorpion King in The Mummy Returns (2001), a role he used to springboard into other films like The Scorpion King (2002), The Rundown (2003), and Walking Tall (2004).
Johnson continued his tough-guy acting persona throughout the late 2000s and into the 2010s, appearing in movies like Faster (2010), Snitch (2013), and San Andreas (2015), as well as several Fast & Furious movies. Though he continues to play more serious characters occasionally, the recent years of Johnson's career have seen him taking on a number of lighter and more comedic roles, particularly in four-quadrant movies for the whole family. When it comes to beloved family fare, there's perhaps no greater Johnson movie than his 2016 animated adventure.

You’ve probably heard the story behind the name of “Seven Bucks Productions”, and even if you haven’t, it’s a good one. After injury derailed his NFL chances, and he failed to latch on in the Cfl, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, with not much else besides the $7 in his pocket. He returned home where, despite his father’s storied wrestling career, there was little more on offer than his loving family. Dwayne’s father reluctantly taught him the family trade, and while there was a period of wrestling shows for $40 a night, his meteoric ascendency in the world of pro wrestling as “The Rock” is nigh unparalleled.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson didn’t just step into Hollywood—he slammed in, blending WWE flair with movie star charisma. From The Mummy Returns to Fast & Furious, he brought his wrestling roots, and fans went wild every time he dropped those iconic moves, reminding everyone that The People’s Champ never forgets his roots.
One of Johnson’s earliest crossovers from the ring to the screen happened in Star Trek: Voyager. In the sixth season’s episode “Tsunkatse,” he appeared as the Pendari Champion, squaring off against Seven of Nine. And what did he do? He casually dropped his signature move, Rock Bottom, slamming his opponent to the mat with a grin, saying, “Yes, I’m that guy.”

Dwayne Johnson may have captured the hearts of the world in the 2000s. However, it looks like the star might be ready to take his biggest risk ever. In the world of Hollywood blockbusters, budgets can often make or break a film’s success. With that in mind, an upcoming film of the 52-year-old, Red One, is said to have a budget higher than James Cameron’s Avatar.

There's a new reason to watch Netflix's hit action thriller Rebel Ridge, aside from the film's critical praise. Rebel Ridge debuted to great reviews and a nearly perfect Rotten Tomatoes score of 95%. Led by Aaron Pierre's performance as former marine Terrence Richmond, the film follows his discovery of systemic corruption in a small town. Rebel Ridges cast, intense action scenes and compelling themes have elevated the Netflix action movie and led it to be compared to films like Walking Tall and First Blood.
While there's nothing particularly revolutionary about Rebel Ridge in terms of its plot, the movie ended up being one of the best recent action movies on Netflix because of how well it executed that story. The nuanced political thriller does a great job of exploring important themes such as racism and flawed laws. Rebel Ridge cleverly uses action sequences and the cast's performances to build tension and keep audiences enthralled.

Since its premiere on Netflix on September 6, Rebel Ridge has been at the top of the streamer's charts, and for good reason. Its an explosive thriller that blends sociopolitical commentary with enough tense drama and action that its certain to be regarded as a classic in the years to come, akin to Rambo or Walking Tall. This gripping portrait of a Marine veteran dealing with small-town corruption could have been ripped from todays headlines which raises the question: Is Rebel Ridge based on a true story?

Warning! This post contains spoilers for Netflix's Rebel Ridge.
There are seven solid reasons why Rebel Ridge is receiving almost unanimous praise from viewers and critics and boasts an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score of 95%. Directed by Jeremy Saulnier, Rebel Ridge presents a compelling hook in its opening moments, where a former marine, Terry Richmond, enters a small town and gets rammed off the road by a police vehicle. With what follows, things only get worse for Richmond after the police officers seize the money he wanted to use to bail his cousin out of prison.
The deeper Terry delves into figuring out how he can get his money back, the more he learns about the central town's dark underbelly of systemic corruption. As Rebel Ridge's storyline suggests, it dabbles with familiar themes and tried and tested tropes of the action genre. However, the way the Netflix action movie...

Many movies have been made about soldiers whose skill set proves out of step once they re-enter the civilian world. Some of them treat those differences with empathy and insight; but more often than not, they leverage them for explosive, empty action sequences. “Rebel Ridge” mostly falls perfunctorily in the latter category.
Written and directed by Jeremy Saulnier (“Green Room”), the film’s focus on a Black soldier adds degrees of complexity to the conflicts that erupt between him and local law enforcement in a small, mostly white town. But if racial politics (cinematic and otherwise) prompt Saulnier to treat him marginally more thoughtfully than most movie veterans, the filmmaker’s obligations to genre formula end up overshadowing those differences by the time the last empty, explosive action sequence has unfolded.

Similar to Rambo, Netflix's Rebel Ridge promises to be an action-packed hit with an ex-Marine protagonist fighting against corrupt authorities. Delayed by the pandemic, this film directed by Jeremy Saulnier features a strong cast and a storyline that echoes popular action hits. With parallels to First Blood, Walking Tall, and Reacher, Rebel Ridge looks to establish itself as an exciting new addition to the action genre.
Netflix's upcoming action movie's similarities with Rambo make it the perfect replacement for the Sylvester Stallone movie. It has been over two decades since the first Rambo movie first hit the big screens. Although many films have tried to recreate its formula and capture its essence, only a few have come close to matching its legacy. However, from the looks of it, a new Netflix film has the potential to mark the inception of an exciting Rambo-esque action franchise.

Dwayne Johnson should take more risks in his career and consider returning to comedic supporting roles to showcase his range. Johnson's previous experimentation with genres like family-oriented action comedies proves he can excel outside of typical action roles. With his star power, Johnson has the opportunity to elevate smaller films and bring attention to projects that deserve recognition by making smaller appearances.
It's not hard to argue with the success and career trajectory that Dwayne Johnson has carved for himself, but one 14-year-old box office success reveals that his career could benefit from a slight change of direction. From professional wrestler to bona fide Hollywood action star, Johnson has worked tirelessly to become a global entertainment icon. Netflix’s “Trigger Warning” is the kind of sturdy thriller that recalls movies from “First Blood” and “Commando” to the early John Cena vehicle “The Marine” and the 2004 remake of “Walking Tall”: a military veteran returns home, looking for peace, only to face violent antagonists who force him back into action.
The difference is that in “Trigger Warning,” the veteran is a woman (Jessica Alba), and the voice behind the camera is female also, as Indonesian director Mouly Surya makes her English-language debut. It’s not just Surya’s first American project after a series of acclaimed films in her home country but also her first action movie. As she told IndieWire, Surya was determined to deliver the traditional satisfactions of the genre while also exploring what it meant to have a woman in a role typically occupied by actors like Stallone, Schwarzenegger, and The Rock.

After five long years, Jessica Alba makes her triumphant feature film return with Netflix’s Trigger Warning. This is her first role since the ill-advised Killers Anonymous and her first onscreen role since the Bad Boys television spin-off, L.A.’s Finest (which was under the Spectrum Original banner, believe it or not). Yes, a lot has happened during the time Alba entertained the masses.
Yet, why does her triumphant return have to be Trigger Warning instead of Honey 2? Besides being in development hell for four years, this film is straight ripped from the genre that gives stars comebacks nowadays. It used to be horror, and now, the revenge thriller has been all the rage as of late.
The question is, will Alba’s film be the good (Reacher), the bad (think any Liam Neeson film from the past decade or two), or the ugly (Peppermint)?

With there being an overlap between wrestling fans and horror fans, it only made sense for WWE Studios to produce See No Evil. And much like The Rock’s Walking Tall and John Cena’s The Marine, this 2006 slasher was designed to jumpstart a popular wrestler’s crossover career; superstar Glenn “Kane” Jacobs stepped out of the ring and into a run-down hotel packed with easy prey. Director Gregory Dark and writer Dan Madigan delivered what the WWE had hoped to be the beginning of “a villain franchise in the vein of Jason, Freddy and Pinhead.” In hindsight, See No Evil and its unpunctual sequel failed to live up to expectations. Regardless of Jacob Goodnight’s inability to reach the heights of horror’s greatest icons, his films are not without their simple slasher pleasures.
See No Evil (previously titled Goodnight and Eye Scream Man) was a last gasp for a dying trend.

You might know him best from MTV's hilarious, groundbreaking, and painful show Jackass, with its latest movie receiving the most acclaim the franchise has ever experienced. Millennials may remember his fun little supporting turn in Walking Tall (2004) alongside Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. But more recently, Johnny Knoxville has tackled a role he was perhaps born to play, a dramatic turn with shades of humor and hard R-rated banter about this cruel world we live in.
In Sweet Dreams, a new feature from Paramount and writer-director Lije Sarki (producer on The Peanut Butter Falcon), Knoxville plays a recovering alcoholic who joins a rehab home that the film is named after. We recently caught up with Knoxville and Sarki in a paired interview to learn more about their heartfelt new drama, which features a stellar cast that also includes familiar faces like Bobby Lee, Mohammed Amer, GaTa, and Kate Upton.

Liam Neeson does an impression of Clint Eastwood while reliving doing a scene with him in the Dirty Harry sequel, The Dead Pool. The Dirty Harry franchise hasn't yet been rebooted, and this could be a missed opportunity. Eastwood's performance as Harry Callahan is iconic, and it could be difficult for another actor to take on the role.
Liam Neeson shows off his Clint Eastwood impression while reminiscing about filming The Dead Pool, a movie in the Dirty Harry franchise. Released in 1988, The Dead Pool marks Eastwood's final outing as homicide detective Harry Callahan. The film, which is directed by Buddy Van Horn, follows Callahan as he investigates a contest revolving around killing celebrities, with Neeson playing director Peter Swan in the film.

It’s a lean month for new original content on HBO/Max. November will see the return of two scripted series in Julia and Rap Sh!t, both of which are debuting their respective second seasons, but this month’s fresh highlight is likely to be Bookie, a new comedy series from the partnership of The Big Bang Theory creator Chuck Lorre, and Nick Bakay. The show tracks an LA bookie called Danny (Sebastian Maniscalco), whose business is in peril as California movies to legalize sports gambling.
Elsewhere in November, there quite a few interesting documentaries to keep an eye on, and two that jump out as “must watch”. The first is Albert Brooks: Defending My Life, which chronicles the aging comedian’s life and career. The second is the previously-released Little Richard: I Am Everything, which tries to peel back the whitewashed canon of Richard Penniman in a true...

We all know Mystery Science Theater 3000 as the show in which a human host and a couple of robots make fun of bad movies. According to in-universe lore, the movies come via mad scientist members of the Forrester family, who test the sanity of a human subject by forcing them to watch terrible films. The humans — beginning with Joel Robinson (series creator Joel Hodgson), followed by Mike Nelson (Michael J. Nelson), Jonah Heston (Jonah Ray), and Emily Connor (Emily Marsh) — fight back by riffing on the films, a task made easier not just by the robot sidekicks Crow T. Robot and Tom Servo, but also by the genuine awfulness of the movies.

Robert Swan, an actor familiar from sometimes brief but noticeable roles in Hoosiers, Rudy, The Untouchables and The Babe, died of cancer today at his home in Rolling Prairie, Indiana. He was 78.
His death was announced by his friend Betty Hoeffner in a Facebook post.
Perhaps best known for his role as an assistant to Gene Hackman’s high school basketball coach in director David Anspaugh’s 1986 sports drama Hoosiers, Swan also featured as a priest in Anspaugh’s 1993 Rudy starring Sean Astin.
Making his feature debut portraying a stagehand in 1980’s Somewhere in Time, Swan frequently appeared on both TV and in film over the next two decades, with roles in the 1984 TV-movie The Dollmaker starring Jane Fonda and in series including All My Children, The Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo, Walking Tall, The Twilight Zone and Spencer For Hire.

Dwayne Johnson is one of the most bankable movie stars working today, and the actor has appeared in 30 or more action movies in his two-decade acting career. Johnson first became famous for his wrestling pseudonym, The Rock, and was known across the world for The Rock's eyebrow, ridiculous one-liners (such as "Can you smell what The Rock is cooking?") and absolutely oozing charisma. It was clear very early on that Johnson was never going to be confined to just the wrestling ring, and in the 2000s, the wrestler applied his on-stage charm to action movies.
Johnson essentially attempted to break into Hollywood twice, as his first leg of acting in the early 2000s quickly fizzled out. It actually seemed like Johnson wasn't cut out for acting and that maybe his wrestling persona should have stayed in the ring. However, the former wrestler learned from his mistakes and made better movie choices in the early 2010s.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is one of the most popular celebrities in the world, but his box office charm seems to be wearing off - if he ever had it in the first place. Johnson rose to fame in professional wrestling as "The Rock" before turning to Hollywood where he was cast in a number of box office hits; however, his more recent movies have raised eyebrows after a few high-profile box office flops like Black Adam and Jungle Cruise. Black Adam's box office was especially concerning, alongside DC League of Super-Pets because it was an failed attempt by Johnson to become the face of a larger brand.

It's safe to say fans were stunned by the news that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson would be returning to the Fast & Furious franchise. It's been spoiled that Fast X's post-credits scene has him rejoining the action, leaving diehards wondering how Johnson has moved past his very public spat with Vin Diesel. That said, avid loyalists are glad both alphas could set aside their differences for the good of the narrative.
After all, there's a lot of storytelling potential to mine with so many terrorist threats to come. Not to mention, with the franchise winding down à la Avengers: Endgame, it would feel incomplete without The Rock's Luke Hobbs helping save the world. However, with a new Fast & Furious trilogy in play, there have to be adjustments to how Hobbs is portrayed.

Throughout his impressive acting career, Dwayne Johnson has played starring roles in both instant classics like Moana and disappointments like Tooth Fairy. Johnson first rose to prominence as a wrestler in the WWE under the ring name “The Rock,” but it wasn’t long before he brought his charisma and star power to the big screen, becoming one of the best wrestlers turned actors. The Rock is one of the last remaining movie stars who can attract audiences to a film based on his involvement alone. Despite being an iconic franchise Dirty Harry has never been remade, but how would Clint Eastwood feel if it actually happened? Frank Sinatra was up for both the titular role in Dirty Harry and John McClane in Die Hard. Sinatra was said to have rejected the former as he was unable to hoist "Dirty" Harry's signature Magnum revolver due to a broken wrist, so Eastwood was offered the role. The movie's box-office success in 1971 made Clint a movie star and helped him transition out of Westerns.
Eastwood returned for four sequels, though they all lacked the raw power of the original. Even in its day, Dirty Harry's depiction of a cop who takes the law into his own hands was controversial, with actors like Paul Newman rejecting it for what Eastwood described (via MTV) as "political reasons." Eastwood became so associated with Harry that Warner Bros never seriously attempted a reboot.
