Orpheus in the Underworld is a fantastic opera and this was a fantastic production.

I saw this TV production when it first appeared on television and have always wanted to be able to see it again. That's why I'm on this site, trying to find out if it's available on video or DVD. The humour of the writing was totally exploited by the performers. Their voices were perfect for their roles. The costuming was brilliant, the orchestra was brilliant - what more can I say? I have seen other productions of Orpheus in the Underworld - mostly on stage - but never has the genuine entertainment value of the opera been evident. Unfortunately, it was so long ago that I saw it, I cannot remember in detail much more than the wonderful 'buzz-buzz' aria and, of course, the energetic and exhausting can-can.
