Les frères Karamazoff

This is the French version of Fédor Ozep 's " der Mörder Dimitri Karamasoff ",keeping the principals dubbed in French ,and the dialog suffers accordingly ....It was the beginning of the French career of the Russian director,driven away by the nazis.

As the German title indicates ("murder Dimitri......) ,the film focuses on book 8 and book 12 : his passion for Grouchenka , whom his father woos too.

The film was given an expressionismus treatment ( then the most important cinema school in Germany) and it features beautiful pictures :an obsession for the trains and the clocks , turbulent skies, a recurrent shot of a curtain fluttering in the wind ,a stunning orgy .The religious side is passed over in silence ;ditto the hint at Dimitri's possible escape .
