Every hidden Star Wars artifact in Luthen Rael’s gallery in Andor (that we know of)
Image
If there’s one thing Andor does better than any other Star Wars show, it’s world-building. Nowhere is that more obvious than in Luthen Rael’s gallery, the Coruscant antique shop that’s a front for the rebels, and also serves as one of the most lore-packed locations in the franchise. The Rebellion might be brewing behind the scenes, but up front it’s pure fan service. There are relics and references that span the entire Star Wars timeline, from the Old Republic to the Clone Wars to Jedi: Fallen Order.

Showrunner Tony Gilroy has openly admitted that these details aren’t always in the script. It's the crew, especially the art team, who slyly smuggle them in. He told GamesRadar, “They sneak that s*** in,” and it’s fantastic that they do. Because in Andor, even the background tells a story.

This is your definitive guide to every...

Taylor Tomlinson Says Goodbye To ‘After Midnight’, Wishes CBS Had Replaced Her
Image
Taylor Tomlinson waved goodbye to After Midnight with an emotional monologue, praising the team that makes the CBS late-night show and saying she was “very grateful” for the opportunity.

The comedian began by calling it an “emotional” night.

“I’m so grateful that I got a chance to do this. I never thought that I would be able to host a late-night show. This was never something that was on my vision board at all because I just didn’t think it was possible for me. I’m a touring standup and I feel very grateful to have that career that I do, and this opportunity came along at a time in my life where I could take advantage of it, and, while, unfortunately, I couldn’t keep doing the show, it just wasn’t sustainable for me. I can’t believe that I got to do it as long as I did,...

Image
In case of emergency, Byron Allen.

CBS has found its post-Colbert series in Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen — again.

Starting on Monday, Sept. 22, Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen will once more follow The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, as it did in a limited run in fall 2023. The @midnight spinoff After Midnight hosted by Taylor Tomlinson then took over the 12:37 a.m. hour. Stephen Colbert was among the After Midnight executive producers.

Panel show After Midnight aired for two seasons before being canceled. The series had previously been renewed for a third season, but plans were scrapped after Tomlinson expressed a desire to return to performing standup comedy full time. CBS said it will no longer program the time slot, though it was unclear if the hour would be kicked back to local stations — it was not.

Queen Elizabeth Suffered From Bone Cancer For Over A Year Before Her Passing
Image
British royal family news reveals that former British prime minister, Boris Johnson, has spilled some tea on how the late Queen Elizabeth really felt as she faced illness prior to her 2022 passing.

Johnson was at the queen’s refuge, Balmoral, Scotland, on September 6, two days before the Queen’s death.

In an excerpt from his memoir, Unleashed, Johnson noted that “Edward Young, her private secretary, tried to prepare me. I had known for a year or more that she had a form of bone cancer, and her doctors were worried that at any time she could enter a sharp decline.”

Queen Elizabeth Passed With Grace

During the visit Johnson was told that the regent’s health had deteriorated “quite a bit over the summer.” Yet the queen remained quite lucid and the illness that wracked her body did not touch her mind.

According to the former prime minister the monarch...

Street Fighter Soft Launches on Netflix, Shatter: Remastered Leaving and Nitro Games Cancelation
Image
Pictures: Capcom / Netflix

There’s been a lot of small pieces of news for Netflix Games over the past week, and given that today saw the soft-launch of Street Fighter, here’s a quick rundown of all the pieces of news you may have missed as it relates to Netflix Games.

In case you missed it last week, we did a deep dive into some of Netflix’s biggest hits and what that’s saying about the changing direction the streamer is taking in the mobile gaming space. The Guardian followed up a day later with a piece about some of the woes we touched on. Their conclusion seems to be somewhat in line with ours that Netflix’s strategy is certainly shifting from the early days.

Love is Blind: NYC Next To Launch on Netflix Stories

As it stands, Steel Paws is the only main game release scheduled for...

What Are Netflix’s Most Popular Games? What Do They Tell Us About Their Changing Strategy?
Image
Pictures: AnnaPuna, Netflix, Ninja Kiwi, Rockstar Games

In November 2021, Netflix ventured into a brand-new medium—gaming. While it had previously experimented with game production and distribution, it had never launched games within its own ecosystem. Fast-forward nearly four years, and Netflix’s gaming library has expanded to over 100 mobile titles and more than a dozen on its cloud gaming platform. However, as we’ve been reporting, things are changing. So, where is Netflix Games headed next, and what does the data reveal?

Over the past six months, Netflix Games has made headlines, but not always for the right reasons. It all started with the closure of a major Aaa studio and then the news that they’re pushing into AI gaming (which went down like a plate of cold sick). Then, in December, Netflix removed over a dozen titles from its catalog. January brought more disappointing news as Netflix canceled several upcoming games,...

The British singer-songwriter has no previous Grammy nominations, but he’s a hit in his native country, with his two previous albums Hypersonic Missiles and Seventeen Going Under both topping the charts and going platinum in the U.K. He hasn’t quite caught on in the U.S. yet. The 30-year-old rocker peaked at No. 12 on Billboard‘s Heatseekers Albums chart for new and developing artists with Missiles, and he has placed two songs on the Hot Rock and Alternative Songs chart, but he has otherwise kept a low profile on this side of the Atlantic. That said, he has been embraced by music journalists: People Watching has a Metacritic score of 90 based on the first six reviews counted.

10 Best Jet Li Movies, Ranked
Image
This might surprise you, but Jet Li's Western films -- ones shot primarily in English -- have grossed basically the same amount as Jackie Chan's (not counting Chan's voiceover work in animated films). Each of them have brought in just over two billion dollars with their English-language releases, but the odds are pretty good that regular moviegoers will recognize Chan far more often than they do Li. Why? That's a good question, and the answer probably has something to do with Chan's ubiquitous presence and those aforementioned family-friendly animated films.

Longtime action fans know that Li has delivered just as many absolute bangers as Chan, but while the latter made his name with comedy and a creative use of his environment, Li secured a spot in the action hall of fame based almost solely on his blisteringly fast skills. A fantastic fighter and athlete, as at home on...

District 13: This Parkour Classic is the Best Action Movie You Never Saw
Image
In the mid-2000s, you could be forgiven for thinking action films had gotten a little stale. The genre tends to go in waves; whenever something hits in a big way, you get derivative, increasingly stale copies. Think about all the Die Hard rip-offs or the way every movie tried to copy The Matrix with bullet time and wire-work post-1999. Heck, we’re experiencing it right now with superhero movies and John Wick clones. Whenever this happens, it’s more-or-less left to international cinema to come along and shake us up with something different, done far outside the mainstream, to revitalize the genre. That happened in 2004, when a small movie from France, District 13, introduced Parkour to mainstream audiences.

So, what’s Parkour? Think of it as free running in an urban setting mixed with acrobatics and martial arts. It was founded by the star of District 13, David Belle, a Parisian...

11817: Wagner Moura replaces Kingsley Ben-Adir in Louis Leterrier sci-fi horror film
Image
Louis Leterrier has directed the action films The Transporter, Transporter 2, Unleashed, and Fast X, the action comedies The Brothers Grimsby and The Takedown, the mystery thriller Now You See Me, the fantasy adventure Clash of the Titans, and the comic book adaptation The Incredible Hulk (not to mention the TV shows The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance and Lupin), and over the decades his films have racked up $2 billion at the box office. Last May, we learned that he’ll be directing and producing the film 11817, working from a screenplay by Matthew Robinson (The Invention of Lying), which will see him venturing into the sci-fi horror realm. That same month, it was announced that Kingsley Ben-Adir (Bob Marley: One Love) and Greta Lee (Past Lives) would be starring in the film… but now it looks like Ben-Adir has had to drop out, with Wagner Moura (Civil War) stepping in as his replacement.

As Variety previously reported, “Squid Game: Unleashed,” which was developed in-house by Netflix’s growing games division, was made with input from the “Squid Game” TV series team and based on scripts for both Season 2 and the upcoming third and final season.

Channel 4 Kicks Ex-u.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson Out of Election Panel for Plugging Book
Image
Former U.K. prime minister Boris Johnson was “fired” from Channel 4‘s overnight election coverage after going on and on about his book, according to the program’s co-host.

Krishnan Guru-Murthy, who together with fellow broadcaster Emily Maitlis was presenting the U.S. election results show America Decides, introduced an updated panel of guests a little later into the night with the ex-Tory leader missing — and it wasn’t clear if his departure was planned.

Alongside a varied line-up, including Succession star Brian Cox, adult film actor Stormy Daniels and acclaimed pollster Frank Lutz, Johnson had said he had met with Republican Donald Trump following the July assassination attempt. He continued: “In case I failed to mention this, I am promoting my book Unleashed, and I had a talk with him about Ukraine.”

Newsreader Guru-Murthy told Johnson that holding up his book not even two minutes into the program was...

Starkiller, Darth Vader's Secret Apprentice: Force Powers, Rebel Alliance Role, & Canon References Explained
Image
While it's a well-known fact in Star Wars that Darth Vader was hopeful to overthrow Emperor Palpatine, it's perhaps lesser known that, in Star Wars Legends, he began this process long before the original trilogy era by recruiting an apprentice known as Starkiller. Born as Galen Marek, Starkiller's story was revealed in the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed video games, which followed his journey from the child of two Jedi to one of the galaxy's most powerful Sith apprentices. Though the games are no longer considered canon, Starkiller's story still matters, and is certainly worth knowing.

The Force Unleashed was released in 2008, around the same time that the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie and TV show launched - which means that Starkiller has been around for just as long as many iconic Clone Wars characters have, including Ahsoka Tano and Captain Rex. His story, however, is one of tragedy and betrayal,...

Image
Doctor Who season 14, episode 5 explores racism through a powerful twist ending, challenging viewers to confront their own biases. Showrunner Russell T Davies wanted to highlight the reality of racism in modern society, not just in the past. The episode forces audiences to question why they didn't notice the lack of diversity in the all-White cast sooner, creating a memorable moment.

Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies is opening up about the stunning twist at the end of season 14, episode 5. After an entire episode focusing on Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor leading a group of wealthy internet-obsessed people to safety, he quickly learns that they would rather die than spend time with a Black man. The Doctor is left to mourn their coming deaths, while also considering the flaws of humanity. Doctor Who season 14 is filled with social commentary, but this episode directly addressed racism and slowly seeded the theme through the episode.

The 10 Best Star Wars Stories Set In The Original Trilogy Era
Image
The original Star Wars trilogy has spawned a vast catalog of books, comics, and other media that expand on the story and characters. The Force Unleashed video game and Rogue One both offer compelling and emotionally impactful stories set during the early days of the Rebel Alliance. Phineas and Ferb: Star Wars and Star Wars Infinities provide non-canon yet entertaining and creative takes on the original trilogy.

The original Star Wars trilogy is still considered the franchise's magnum opus after 40 years, but it has also spawned countless stories set during the same era. Before the first film hit theaters in 1977, Star Wars had received a novelization and a comic adaptation, offering dedicated sci-fi readers a preview of what would become one of the all-time greatest movies. Star Wars books and comics continued to expand the original trilogy era during the wait between films, with more stories added over time to create a vast catalog.

Donald Glover
Mr and Mrs Smith | Trailer released for television adaptation
Donald Glover
Donald Glover and Francesca Sloane are bringing Mr and Mrs Smith to the small screen, here’s the trailer.

2005 was a good year for action films. Jet Li gave one of his greatest performances opposite Bob Hoskins in Unleashed and Christopher Nolan kicked of his iconic trilogy with Batman Begins.

Another hugely successful film that year was Mr And Mrs Smith. It saw Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie play a married couple who, unbeknownst to each other, are both world class assassins. The film originally cast Nicole Kidman to star opposite Pitt, but scheduling conflicts with The Stepford Wives meant she had to drop out.

Doug Liman directed the film from a screenplay by Simon Kinberg, and while it is by no means perfect, it remains a hugely enjoyable, rollicking ride.

Now, Donald Glover and Francesca Sloane have brought the story to the small screen.

The synopsis reads as follows:...

Doctor Who Wild Blue Yonder's Gravity Joke Explained By David Tennant & Catherine Tate
Image
Warning: This article contains spoilers for Doctor Who: Wild Blue Yonder.

David Tennant and Catherine Tate explain how their accidental encounter with Sir Isaac Newton leads to the concept of gravity being named "mavity". Despite the Doctors and their companions' efforts to preserve the timeline, they have inadvertently rewritten history before, inspiring famous historical figures and causing ripple effects. The "mavity" line in could even become a running gag, enshrining the Doctor and Donna's blunder in the show's history.

The 60th anniversary specials see Tennant return as an all-new fourteenth incarnation of the Doctor, reuniting with Tate's returning companion Donna Noble for the first time in just over 14 years under mysterious circumstances. In "Wild Blue Yonder", the Fourteenth Doctor and...

"[Never] Really Left Me": Why Catherine Tate's Doctor Who Return Was Easy (Despite 14-Year Gap)
Image
Catherine Tate easily returned to Doctor Who after a 14-year gap because Donna Noble is a brilliantly drawn character that she never really left. Bringing back Donna Noble was the right decision as she is one of the most beloved actors from Doctor Who, and her return allows for character maturity and bittersweet nostalgia in the anniversary specials. Donna Noble's growth into a mother adds intense maternal energy to her character, and viewers will be emotionally invested as she fights to return home to her daughter in the next special.

Doctor Who’s Catherine Tate explains why her return to the British sci-fi show came easily. As the BBC revived the series in 2006, Tate portrayed the Tenth Doctor companion, Donna Noble. The actor recently returned to the show for the first of three Doctor Who 60th anniversary specials, “The Star Beast.” Following the ending of Doctor Who's 60th Anniversary...

“Universal Horror Unleashed” – Year-Round Horror Experience Coming Soon to Las Vegas!
“Horror is not just for Halloween anymore,” Universal’s Mark Woodbury told Bloomberg back in January, announcing an upcoming year-round, all-horror destination in Las Vegas.

Universal Horror Unleashed is the destination’s official title, we’ve now learned today!

The destination, which essentially turns Halloween Horror Nights into a year-round affair, is said to feature “content from both historical and upcoming films” from Universal.

Bloomberg explained, “At 110,000 square feet, it will be the anchor tenant in a 20-acre expansion of Area15, an entertainment district that opened in 2020. The location, near the city’s famous Strip and off of the 15 freeway, already includes themed restaurants and entertainment attractions such as Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart, an immersive art experience.”

No word yet on when the spooky space will be opening up for business, but it sounds like Las Vegas is about to become a “bucket list” destination for horror fans across the world.
