“Those are the wins for me”: ‘Temptation Island’ Is Returning for Season 2 And I’m Convinced The Show Won’t Work Without Mark L. Walberg
Image
Temptation Island is officially returning for Season 2, and while I’m excited, there’s one question that keeps on lingering in my mind. How is the show ever going to work without Mark L. Walberg? He has done a lot for the reality show over the years with his remarkable hosting.

Walberg isn’t just the guy who introduces challenges or wraps up episodes, but he’s the heart of Temptation Island. No matter how wild things get, he knows how to bring depth and empathy into situations. That’s rare, and while everyone is tuned in for the drama, it’s actually Walberg who keeps us coming back.

Can Temptation Island really work without Mark L. Walberg?

Let’s be real – Temptation Island has all the necessary ingredients of a messy dating show. It has couples on the rocks, single people looking for love (or fun), and enough drama to fill your group chat.

7 Wild ‘Joe Millionaire’ Revelations From ‘Dark Side of Reality TV’
Image
As if the beauty pageant-style dating special Who Wants to Marry a Multi-Millionaire wasn’t controversial enough when it aired in 2000, Fox went even further with Joe Millionaire. In Tuesday’s (September 24) latest episode of Dark Side of Reality TV, several former contestants — winner Zora Sabrina, along with Melissa Michael, Allison Ball, and Amanda Garcia — and casting producer Dawn George open up about how truly wild their experiences were and what audiences didn’t know about the show. This Cancelled Fox Dating Show Continuously Lied to Its Contestants
Image
Reality TV might be commonplace nowadays, but the early 2000s is where it really took off. Shows like Survivor and Fear Factor took the world by storm, and pretty soon every network on TV was racing to get their own reality shows on the air especially Fox. While Fox viewers might think of American Idol or one of Gordon Ramsay's shows when they think of its reality programming, there is one show that's completely flown under the cultural radar: Joe Millionaire. Joe Millionaire was best known for its unique premise, but also for constantly obscuring the truth from its contestants. Even the very premise of the show was a lie!

What Makes 'Survivor's Jeff Probst The Most Important Reality Show Host Ever?
Image
Jeff Probst has played a critical role in Survivor's success, changing television forever in the early 2000s. The Survivor: Borneo finale was watched by over 50 million people, almost rivaling the viewership of the Friends' finale. Jeff's transition to showrunner set a new precedent for reality TV hosts, paving the way for future opportunities.

Ever since Survivor first premiered, one person, host Jeff Probst, has seen as the face of the show. As a result, Jeff has dealt with some backlash over the years. For example, fans weren't impressed that Jeff let Jimmy Fallon influence the worst Survivor season and Rupert Boneham claimed Jeff had corrupted the show.

On the other hand, fans all agree that Survivor has aired a slew of seasons that were great under Jeff's watchful eyes. Here are a few more reasons why Jeff is the most important reality TV host in reality TV history.

‘I Wanna Marry Harry’ Stretched The Limits of Reality TV
Image
It seems inconceivable in an age when every facet of Prince Harry’s celebrity marriage and Shakespearean sibling rivalry is meticulously scrutinized by every man and his corgi, but 10 years ago, there were apparently a dozen young American women who couldn’t pick Prince Harry out of a line-up.

That’s what the 2010s’ most intelligence-insulting reality show “I Wanna Marry Harry” — the lone season of which concluded June 11, 2014 — expected us to believe anyway. Never mind that the self-proclaimed ‘spare’ was then third in line to the throne and, thanks to his penchant for playing strip billiards in Las Vegas hotels, a long-running tabloid favorite. Just recruit a vague posh boy lookalike, dye his hair ginger, and provide a crash course in etiquette and croquet, and voila, no aspiring princess would be any the wiser.

The eight-part Fox original was essentially an aristocratic take on “Joe Millionaire,” arguably the genesis...

Yellowstone is coming to an end, and it's not only Paramount who will suffer.

As the key to Yellowstone streaming, Peacock loses a golden goose, too.

The series, from Jeff Jenkins Productions, follows patriarch Steve McBee, the hard-working founder of the family business, and his four sons:

Steven Jr. the business-minded heir apparent; Cole, the underdog who works hard in the field; Jesse the quiet cowboy, and Brayden, who has the least interest in farming.

Warner Bros. President of Unscripted TV Mike Darnell Exits After 10 Years
Mike Darnell
Mike Darnell has stepped down from his role as President of Unscripted Television at Warner Bros. after a decade at the studio, he announced in a statement Thursday.

“Letting yourself go is always difficult… I took a deep breath, called myself on Zoom and told myself it was time to leave,” he wrote. “I took it surprisingly well. Actually, Channing approached me a couple of months ago, and although I was given the opportunity to stay… it would have meant more changes for both my personal deal and to the general structure of the division.

Darnell added that “a couple of new ventures have come my way” during the discussions, but “even so, deciding to leave was difficult.”

Reality Kingpin Mike Darnell Departs Warner Bros. TV Group After 10 Years

The dark prince of the unscripted world is plotting his next chapter: Mike Darnell is exiting Warner Bros. Television Group after a decade with the studio, a move he decided to make after a restructuring would have altered his role at the company. Darnell, who had served as president of unscripted television for Warner Bros., and Warner Bros. Television Group chairman/CEO Channing Dungey were set to announce the change on Thursday.

As part of the new structure, Darnell won’t be replaced; instead, the alternative and unscripted divisions that reported to Darnell will now report directly to Dungey. Darnell had a year left in his current contract with the studio.

“Letting yourself go is always difficult…I took a deep breath, called myself on Zoom and told myself it was time to leave,” Darnell said in a statement, in his usual unique style. “I took it surprisingly well,” he quipped.

30 best Fox shows ever, ranked
Image
For nearly four decades, the Big Three networks dominated television, with any attempts at a fourth competitor quickly trounced. However, on October 9, 1986, a fourth network launched and steadily gained affiliates by offering innovative programming, often appealing to a younger demographic.

Fox has been the most successful network beyond the Big Three, despite a somewhat shaky beginning. The network launched with a short-lived late night talk show initially hosted by Joan Rivers, “The Late Show.” Then, beginning in April 1987, Fox gradually rolled out original primetime programming, starting with Sunday night premieres of two shows whose concepts were new to regular network programming. “Married. . .with Children” brought raunch to the family sitcom genre, raising the ire of conservative watchdog groups to the point that demands were made for a boycott; ironically, this actually brought attention to the series, and it achieved a whole new level of success. “The Tracey Ullman Show” delivered...

ABC Signature President Jonnie Davis Exiting
Image
Jonnie Davis is leaving ABC Signature.

Davis has been President of the Disney-owned studio since 2019.

He said it has been a “privilege” to work on shows such as ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, FX’s Fleishman Is In Trouble and Hulu’s This Fool.

The move, however, is not a precursor to merging ABC Signature and 20th Television and, despite a multitude of rumors, they will continue to operate as two separate divisions. The company is currently searching for a replacement for Davis.

Davis’ departure is a surprise given how close he has been to Disney Entertainment Co-Chairman Dana Walden.

When he moved from 20th Television to ABC Signature, he was able to lure a handful of big-name talents across with him include Drew Goddard and Octavia Spencer.

Davis took over the role of President of ABC Studios in July 2019, four months after Disney’s $71.3B of key Fox assets and...

ABC Signature President Jonnie Davis to Step Down
Image
ABC Signature president Jonnie Davis is exiting his role at the studio, Variety has learned.

The announcement was made by Davis and Eric Schrier, president of Disney Television Studios and Global Original Television Strategy, in separate notes to the studio’s staff.

“I’m forever grateful to Dana Walden and Eric Schrier for the wonderful opportunity to lead this world-class studio,” Davis wrote. “And while I will, of course, miss this outstanding team, after doing this job for over 20 years, I’m looking forward to figuring out my next creative challenge.”

No immediate replacement for Davis is being named at this time. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, there are no plans to merge ABC Signature with 20th Television and they will continue to operate as separate entities.

“Not only has Jonnie been an incredibly valued colleague, he has also served as a fantastic creative partner, collaborator and friend to so many,...

‘Joe Millionaire’ Star Kurt Sowers Explains Split From Amanda Pace and Carolyn Moore’s Dramatic Exit
Image
At the end of Fox’s “Joe Millionaire: For Richer or Poorer,” Steven McBee and Kurt Sowers walked away with love — or so it seemed. McBee chose Calah Jackson on the finale, and the pair are still going strong nearly four months later. Sowers, on the other hand, chose Amanda Pace, and while they tried to date when the show wrapped in October, they broke up during the first week of December.

“Things are just a lot different when you are dating in the real world. It’s difficult to hang out and stuff. We snuck around and hung out a little bit, and I just think we both realized after the show we’re not really a good fit for each other,” he tells Variety. “We have very different lives, I think, in general, and our futures look a little bit different.”

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not watched “Dates, Decisions, and Dollar Amount Revealed,” the March 10 finale of “Joe Millionaire: For Richer or Poorer.”

Which woman hit the jackpot? During Thursday’s final episode of Fox’s “Joe Millionaire” reboot, Kurt Sowers and Steven McBee both had to choose which woman they wanted to continue a relationship with outside of the show.

Going into the finale, millionaire Steven narrowed it down to Calah and Annie, while Kurt was torn between Amanda and Carolyn. Not only did the women not know which of them the men would choose, they also didn’t know which man was the millionaire.

The men then had final dates — all of which made things even more confusing. During the day, Steven spent the afternoon paddle boarding with Annie, and the evening cooking with Calah — both of which went perfectly. Meanwhile, Kurt played tennis with...

TV Ratings: Law & Order Revival Sinks
Tony Goldwyn, Maura Tierney, Hugh Dancy, Reid Scott, Mehcad Brooks, and Odelya Halevi in New York - Police judiciaire (1990)
The Law & Order revival got off to a winning start last week, but the series took a massive dip in its second week.

A week ago, the series returned after a lengthy hiatus with 5.8 million viewers and a 0.7 rating -- helping it tie for the top spot on the night.

NBC probably expected a better hold week-to-week, but we'll need to wait to see how the show holds up in the coming weeks.

More people could have caught it on streaming this week, so time will tell.

Law & Order: Svu (4.4 million/0.6 rating) inched down a tenth, while Law & Order: Organized Crime was steady at 3.1 million viewers and a 0.5 rating.

ABC's Station 19 (4.3 million/0.6 rating) and Grey's Anatomy (3.8 million/0.6 rating) were down a bit from their midseason launches, while Big Sky (2.3 million/0.3 rating) was steady.

CBS Comedy Slate Returns & Rises With ‘Young Sheldon’ Winning Thursday Demo & Viewers
Image
Class is back in session as CBS’ Young Sheldon returned to the top of Thursday’s primetime broadcast ratings, besting a couple of premieres and mainstays.

Returning from the holiday break into the new year, CBS’ entire comedy slate rose from previous episodes. Young Sheldon earned a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demo and 7.20 million viewers, up in both counts in early Nielsen Live+Same Day numbers from its last episode in December.

In the fall, Young Sheldon would typically be the best-performing non-sport program as Fox would win the night with Thursday Night Football. However, Fox opted instead this week for the two-hour premiere of Joe Millionaire: For Richer or Poorer, allowing Young Sheldon to win the night overall.

Going head-to-head with Joe Millionaire from 8-10 p.m. was the premiere of ABC”s Women of the Movement (0.4, 2.97M). Both premieres tied with the latest episode of The Blacklist...

Joe Millionaire: For Richer or Poorer Bachelors Steven and Kurt Reveal Their Motivations for Looking for Love on TV
Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (2002)
Are you ready to meet the bachelors from Joe Millionaire: For Richer or Poorer?

Of course, you are!

If the conversation we had with these two charismatic gentlemen is any indication, the lucky women vying for their attention are going to have a tough choice.

If you have missed previous news on the revival of Joe Millionaire, there's a twist to the original show that last aired in 2003.

There isn't one fellow contending for women's hearts, but two, which is an excellent change to the series format.

With social media and the internet as we know it in 2022, the 2003 format wouldn't have worked.

The show title was a ruse, introducing the bachelorettes to a man believed to be a millionaire only to pull the rug out from under them with the reality that the bachelor wasn't a millionaire after all.
