Dexter: Resurrection’s Batista Blow Makes the Original Sin Cancellation Even More Devastating
Image
If you’re like me, you thought you were prepared for anything Dexter could throw at you.

But then Dexter: Original Sin was carelessly canceled just before Angel Batista went down on Dexter: Resurrection Season 1 Episode 9, “Touched By An Angel.”

I’m still trying to process the one-two gut punch. Just ugh. Angel’s final words, his history, and his very presence are gone, and, for now, there’s no chance we’ll see him again soon.

Batista carries the weight of history on his face. (Zach Dilgard/Paramount+)

Batista was never just another cop in Dexter’s orbit. He was the steady heartbeat of Miami Metro.

His warmth, his humor,...

Too Short to Shine: My Life with the Walter Boys & Heartstopper Prove Why Streaming Needs Longer Seasons
Image
Netflix has burned me with shorter seasons twice.

Both My Life With The Walter Boys Season 2 and Heartstopper Season 3 had a limited number of episodes that premiered after a long hiatus.

The seasons were over quickly, which was disappointing enough, but both shows tried to cram too much into their short seasons, leaving some plotlines hanging and giving the shows a rushed feeling.

(Samuel Dore/Netflix, Netflix) Why Streamers Usually Have Only 8 – 10 Episodes Per Season

Streaming has changed the way we consume TV.

Rather than the customary 22-episode seasons like on broadcast, most streaming series have only 8-10 episodes, for a variety of reasons.

The Rainmaker Season 1 Episode 3 Review: Murder,...

Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 2 Review: Chris Searches for Meaning in the Wrong Place
Image
Well, that’s one way to follow up a premiere.

All of my concerns with Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 1 washed away the second Episode 2 rolled around.

In hindsight, HBO Max would have been far better off dropping both hours together because, side by side, they feel like the perfect reintroduction to James Gunn’s twisted little corner of the Dcu.

(Erin Sintoes/HBO Max )

Let’s start with Chris, who is still reeling after killing the other Chris.

Bringing Vigilante in to help with the cleanup was classic Peacemaker — absurd, hilarious, and a little unsettling.

Vigilante grinned from ear to ear while sawing up body parts, while Chris looked like he was about to vomit.

Big Brother Spoilers: Bb Block Buster and Seventh Evictee Revealed
Image
Vince may have held all the power this week as Head of Household, but if there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that he might be the most indecisive player Big Brother has seen in years.

Instead of trusting his instincts, he let Morgan get in his head and influence his decisions, leaving his own allies to question where his true loyalties lie.

From the start, Vince’s biggest dilemma centered on Rachel. Despite being a member of The Judges’ alliance, he couldn’t convince himself that she was fully invested in helping his game.

His closest ally, Keanu, pushed hard for Rachel to be put on the block,...

Outlander: Blood of My Blood Cast — New Faces and Returning Actors Revealed
Image
Outlander: Blood of My Blood is the prequel to Starz’s hit historical drama series, Outlander. This show is all set to explore Jamie and Claire Fraser’s parents’ origin stories. Season 1 premiered on Aug. 8, 2025, and season 2 is already in production. The show is set in England during World War I and also in 18th-century Scotland. The dual timelines will explore a fresh story with fresh cast and characters who will redefine the iconic love story.

Outlander was all bout time travel, enduring love, and rebellion; but this prequel show will be more about how the traits, decisions, and conflicts of one generation shape the next one. The lack of source material means that the makers will get to shape this new world while still honoring Diana Gabaldon’s creation. With Outlander ending with season 8, the new Blood of My Blood chapter will allow fans to escape into the same world again.

How To Watch The How To Train Your Dragon Remake At Home
Image
DreamWorks and Universal's live-action remake of "How to Train Your Dragon" is currently one of the year's biggest summer blockbusters. The movie, of course, retells the story of a young Viking named Hiccup (Mason Thames) and his unlikely friend, the injured dragon Toothless, as was previously told in DreamWorks' 2010 animated film of the same name. And just like in that movie, the two bridge the divide between the worlds of humans and dragons in the re-telling, teaching Hiccup's Viking community that dragons like Toothless are their friends, not enemies.

Ever since Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland" brought in over $1 billion at the box office, Disney had cornered the market on these "live-action reboots of classic animated films." And while DreamWorks Animation hasn't been around nearly as long as Disney has, those who grew up watching its movies over the last quarter-century are now old enough to have kids of their own.

Lea Massari, Italian Cinema’s Anti-Diva, Dies at 91
Image
Lea Massari, the Italian actress and European cinema icon famous for her roles in Michelangelo Antonioni‘s L’Avventura (1960), Dino Risi’s A Difficult Life (1961) and Louis Malle’s Murmur of the Heart (1971), has died. She was 91.

Massari died at her home in Rome on Monday, Italian media reported.

In a decades-long career that spanned films, television and theater, Massari played alongside the likes of Alain Delon, Jean Paul Belmondo, Michel Piccoli and Omar Sharif. She was a critical and audience favorite but shunned the spotlight. After retiring from acting more than 30 years ago, she rarely appeared in public.

Born Anna Maria Massatani on June 30, 1933 — she took the stage name Lea in honor of her fiancé, Leo, who died in an accident shortly before they were to be married — her childhood was spent across Europe as her family followed her father, an engineer, to positions in Spain, France and Switzerland.

‘Monster Hunter Wilds’ Is A Colossally Fun Game Whose World Could Be Better
Image
Monster Hunter is a series whose name explains it all. In each of the more than two dozen games in the franchise, you hunt monsters. A lot. Then you craft better armor and weapons from the pieces of hunted monsters — a process that’s less grisly than it sounds — to hunt stronger monsters, repeating the cycle ad nauseam. That’s the gist of it, and for diehard fans, it’s more than enough.

The series is a perennial favorite in Japan, though it struggled to find a devout international audience until 2018’s Monster Hunter: World.

'Lost' Vet Brian K. Vaughan To Write 'Forbidden Planet' Remake for Warner Bros.
Image
Y: The Last Man creator Brian K. Vaughan is set to write a remake of the iconic sci-fi classic Forbidden Planet. Released in 1956, Forbidden Planet is an unofficial, loose sci-fi reimagining of William Shakespeare's The Tempest. The story follows the crew of the starship C-57D as they arrive at the distant planet Altair IV to solve the mystery of what happened to a 20-year-old missing starship, which leads them to uncover a mystery involving a relic from a long-perished race.

Nearly 70 years later, a remake of Forbidden Planet is finally happening. Deadline reports that Brain K. Vaughan, best known as the creator of the critically acclaimed comic series Y: The Last Man, is writing a script for the Forbidden Planet remake at Warner Bros. Vaughan has contributed to many television shows, including Lost, Under the Dome, and The Runaways, which was based on his own Marvel comic. Emma Watts,...

Spend Christmas on the Criterion Channel with John Waters and Alfred Hitchcock
Image
Rue the Christmas blues no more — the Criterion Channel has you covered with plenty of great films to stream this holiday season thanks to the platform’s December lineup.

As announced on Wednesday, Criterion Channel starting December 1 will host a greatest-hits collection of “Pope of Trash” John Waters’ most iconic movies. Divine-starring classics such as “Multiple Maniacs” (1970), “Female Trouble” (1974), “Hairspray” (1988), and “Polyester” (1981) fit the bill, while you shouldn’t miss a camped-up Kathleen Turner as a murderous suburban matriarch in “Serial Mom,” a role her agents told her would ruin her career. Well, the rest is history. For a bonus, John Waters also provides interview commentary on a selection of some of his own favorite movies, including Ingmar Bergman’s 1958 “Brink of Life,” Samuel Fuller’s 1964 “The Naked Kiss,” and Barbara Loden’s influential 1970 classic “Wanda.”

Elsewhere, Criterion Channel celebrates five decades of Alfred Hitchcock’s career with a murderer’s row of all-timers,...

December on the Criterion Channel Includes Bob Dylan, John Waters, MTV & More
Image
Now that they’ve set the year’s best film for a December 10 debut, the Criterion Channel have unveiled the rest of next month’s selection. John Waters’ films are inseparable from John Waters’ presence, making fitting Criterion’s decision to pair an eight-film retrospective (Multiple Maniacs to Cecil B. Demented) with his own “Adventures in Moviegoing” wherein the director extols virtues of Bergman, Chabrol, Barbara Loden, and Samuel Fuller. His own Polyester will have a Criterion Edition alongside the Bob Dylan doc Don’t Look Back, an iconic film in its own right and, I think, fitting companion to The Unknown with Lon Chaney, also streaming on Criterion. No Country for Old Men and Election receive likewise treatment; the latter appears in “MTV Productions,” a series featuring Beavis and Butt-Head Do America, The Original Kings of Comedy, and (coming close to Freddy Got Fingered for least-expected 2024 addition) Jackass: the Movie.

The Best & Worst Sketches Of Michael Keaton's SNL Season 50 Episode
Image
"Batman" and "Beetlejuice" star Michael Keaton returned to "Saturday Night Live" for the first time in nearly a decade to wrap up the last of four consecutive episodes of the late night sketch comedy series. Coming off two strong episodes hosted by stand-up comedian Nate Bargatze and recording star/perpetual theater kid Ariana Grande, there was a lot of hope that the cast and crew of "SNL" could keep the momentum going into this last episode of their first month back for the historical 50th season.

Unfortunately, it seems like they might have been running out of steam a bit, because despite Michael Keaton's best efforts, the episode didn't really feel like it utilized the actor to his full potential. That's not to say Michael Keaton's season 50 episode of "SNL" didn't have some high points, because there were certainly laughs to be had, but there were far more average sketches than remarkable ones,...

How ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ Score Pays Homage to Jerry Goldsmith’s Original Themes
Image
“Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” marks composer John Paesano’s first foray into the Apes franchise. Following in the footsteps of Jerry Goldsmith (“Planet of the Apes”), Michael Giacchino (“

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”) and others, he knew he’d have big shoes to fill. The first thing he thought about was the “musical legacy as well as the “giant music” associated with the scores.

The film picks up 300 years after Caesar’s death, in a post-apocalyptic world where the Apes rule. Even though Paesano was telling a new story, he wanted to honor the music that had come before him and respect the fans, while also finding a way to take the score in a new direction while keeping everything as organic as possible. Speaking with Variety, Paesano said, “I wanted to take it to a place where the franchise is headed.”

Paesano kept everything organic,...

Des jours et des vies (1965)
Days of Our Lives (Dool) spoilers reveal that the drug crisis in Salem has wound down.

However, Clyde Weston (James Read) is still a fugitive and the drugs in Salem won’t ever be completely gone. With there being teen drama and a triangle surrounding prom, could there be another overdose?

Days Of Our Lives spoilers – Holly Jonas’ Recovery

Dool spoilers reveal that when Holly overdosed on New Year’s Eve, Tate was immediately blamed.

Take Our Bananas Planet of the Apes Quiz!
Image
Ever since Charlton Heston climbed out of a little rocket ship in the toxic waters of the Forbidden Zone, science fiction has never been the same. The film in which he starred was based on a Pierre Boulle novel, but by the time it reached the big screen, it felt like an epic cinematic version of The Twilight Zone (and it had the Rod Serling writing credit to prove it).

The ending of the film is still one of the all-time great “twists” in cinema history, birthing the first modern science fiction franchise. And it’s never let up since. When Wes Ball’s latest installment in this upside down universe, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, hits big screens this coming weekend, the series will have seen nearly a dozen films released over the span of about 60 years. Some have been good, some have been bad, but almost...

Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes May Be Hiding A Massive Twist In Plain Sight
Image
"Planet of the Apes" has consistently been a science-fiction franchise (and one of the best we have), but the movies come in different sci-fi flavors. The original was a time travel story (even if Charlton Heston's lead George Taylor took the long way around via cryogenesis), culminating in the shocking ending right out of "The Twilight Zone" where Taylor discovers the shattered Statue of Liberty and realizes this ape-ruled world was Earth all along.

The third movie, "Escape from the Planet of the Apes," saw the talking apes travel back to the 1970s when humans reigned. Subsequent films filled in the timeline, depicting the uprising that led to the planet of the apes. The new films (the so-called Caesar trilogy) have done the reverse, starting at the beginning and taking the route of contemporary speculative fiction. Things have only come full circle with the fourth film, "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,...

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live Season 1, Episode 3, Recap & Spoilers
Image
The following contains spoilers for The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live Season 1, Episode 3, "Bye," which aired Sunday, March 10 on AMC.

The Civic Republic Military (Crm) firmly believe they're the biggest organization/military force in the world, despite seemingly having no contact with other countries. The Crm has a very Westernized "I'm better than you" mindset that blows its capabilities largely out of proportion. Yet, inside the walls of the Civic Republic, it has no power, or so the citizens believe.

Years ago, Rick Grimes visited the Civic Republic for the first time as a cosignee on orientation, sometime after his initial arrival. While it's only a glimpse at a city street with vendor stands, the city looks like regular Philadelphia in the real world, just with a lot of windmills for power. Rick then meets Jadis in citizen attire and an ugly wig. It's an understatement to say she's...

Twd: The Ones Who Live's Matthew August Jeffers on Nat's Twist
Image
The following contains spoilers for The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live Season 1, Episode 2, "Gone," which premiered Sunday, March 3 on AMC.

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live is deep into a new world governed by the Civic Republic Military (Crm). With Rick Grimes as their captor and soldier, it's only a matter of time before they control nearly every sector of the post-apocalyptic United States. While the attempt to rebuild civilization into its former self before the zombie apocalypse is noble, the Crm hasn't found a way to accomplish its goal without causing grave collateral damage.

One of the victims of the Crm's grander vision is Nat (portrayed by Matthew August Jeffers), a nomadic survivor who accompanies Michonne on her journey to find Rick. After bringing a sense of hope to Michonne, Nat's story comes to a swift end when he sees her accomplish her mission of reuniting with Rick.

How Did the Crm Hurt Rick Grimes in The Walking Dead?
Image
Rick Grimes has been held captive by the Crm for years, and The Ones Who Live doesn’t instill hope that his luck will change. Through psychological torment and manipulation, the Crm finally cracked Rick and got him right where they need him. After many failed attempts, Rick finally gave up trying to reunite with his wife and daughter.

The following contains spoilers for The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live Season 1, Episode 1, "Years," which premiered Sunday, February 25 on AMC.

If there's one guy that's guaranteed to survive the apocalypse, it would be Rick Grimes. His best friend, Shane Walsh, might have thought differently, but The Walking Dead continuously tested Rick with new enemies and intense ethical conundrums. Whatever Rick faced, he found a way to conquer it. That is until the Civic Republic Military (Crm) knocked on his front door.

Rick has no doubt been gone for a pretty long time.

Every New Machine Horizon Forbidden West & Burning Shores Dlc Introduce
Image
Horizon Forbidden West introduced 22 new and exciting machines to the Horizon franchise, and the Burning Shores Dlc adds four more to that number. A sequel to 2017's Horizon Zero Dawn, Horizon Forbidden West is set in a post-apocalyptic version of the western United States. While the game may not answer all the questions from the first title, the tale of Aloy setting out to save Earth from another extinction offers a new narrative with a further extravaganza of machines. With a total of 44 machines, there are plenty of exotic and dangerous fights in Forbidden West and Burning Shores.

In Horizon Forbidden West, machines are separated into four classes: Acquisition, Recon, Combat, and Transport. The Acquisition class includes herbivorous machines that are often small to medium in size. Machines that look for threats and warn other machines comprise the Recon Class. Machines in the Combat class typically attack threats, featuring the...

Burning Shores’ Story Almost Ruins Horizon Forbidden West’s Ending
Image
Although Horizon Forbidden West's Burning Shores Dlc tells a compelling story on its own, its plot can feel jarring when played immediately after the main game's ending. Further exploring the themes established in the main game, Burning Shores sees Aloy sent to a version of Los Angeles that has become disconnected from the rest of post-apocalyptic California and now appears as a series of desolate, lava-covered tropical islands.

Warning: This article includes spoilers for Horizon Forbidden West and its Burning Shores Dlc

Horizon Forbidden West used its West Coast setting to tell a more politically charged narrative surrounding a consortium of ultra-rich elites called the Far Zenith who acted as the game's main antagonists. The Zeniths fled the Earth after its fall and colonized a planet in the Sirius system where they survived for centuries. When an experiment designed to create a form of digital immortality that would allow the...

Horizon Forbidden West & Burning Shores Dlc: Every Mountable Machine Aloy Can Ride
Image
Horizon Forbidden West has mountable machines that weren't available in Horizon Zero Dawn, a selection also expanded by its Burning Shores Dlc. Machines offer one of the most novel elements of the Horizon series, blending nature and technology into animal-like creations. All machines encountered in the wild will attack Aloy if given the chance, but many can be overridden and made to fight on her side. Even better are the ones that Aloy can ride after overriding, allowing her to better traverse the map with advancements in speed or even flight.

There are four mounts in the Horizon Forbidden West base game, with one more being added in the PS5-exclusive Burning Shores Dlc. The Charger carries over from the game's predecessor, Horizon Zero Dawn, but the other mountable machines available in Forbidden West make their first appearance in the game. Aside from the Charger, each will require players to...
