While The Walking Dead primarily tells a story of survival, one fundamental aspect that often gets overshadowed by the hype of the zombie apocalypse and the aggressive competition among the remaining clusters of humanity is the necessity of securing an ongoing and consistent means of sustenance. To be clear, unless you're a zombie, eating human flesh is not a viable option for survivors.
Establishing and maintaining a reliable food system in such an environment is no easy task. As a result, there must be considerable improvisation taking place - at least according to The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman. Kirkman addressed this problem directly when responding to a reader's question in the "Letter Hacks" section of The Walking Dead Deluxe #103.
The reader, intrigued by the Beef Jerky Stroganoff that Spencer Monroe offered to Andrea in The Walking Dead #77 by Kirkman and Charlie Adlard, inquired about the origin of this creative dish.

As was the case from 2006-2007, this year’s Best Structured Reality Program Emmy lineup perfectly matches last year’s. Although this probably bodes well for reigning six-time champion “Queer Eye,” this race differs from the last in that the Netflix show’s five stars missed out on a fifth consecutive Best Reality Host nomination. This slightly increases the comeback odds of “Shark Tank,” which won here four years in a row before “Queer Eye” came along and ended its streak.
“Shark Tank” and “Queer Eye” are indeed the only shows that have triumphed in this category since it splintered off from the catch-all Best Reality Program one in 2014. The three nominees once again attempting to become the third recipient of this specific prize are “Antiques Roadshow,” “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives,” and “Love Is Blind.”

Ever since its inaugural season was honored with the 2018 Emmy for Best Structured Reality Program, “Queer Eye” has dominated the category and shows no signs of stopping. In its quest for its sixth consecutive victory, the lifestyle series faces four shows that have each lost to it at least once before and have existed for an average of 15 years. Included among them is “Shark Tank,” which won here four years in a row before “Queer Eye” came along and ended its streak.

The decision to put select content from Discovery, Inc.-owned brands like from TLC, Food Network and HGTV exclusively on new streaming service Discovery+, like portions of the “90 Day Fiance” franchise and new episodes of Alton Brown’s “Good Eats,” hasn’t gone over so well with all fans, as many viewers want to see their favorite cable shows keep airing on cable.
But Discovery, Inc. CEO David Zaslav said Monday that just because a series is only available on Discovery+, which costs $4.99 per month with ads or $6.99 for no commercials, right now does not mean it will only be available on Discovery+ permanently, as this “moving around” is an experiment for the company.

New episodes of Alton Brown’s “Good Eats” are coming, but not to the channel that you might expect.
Three new installments of Brown’s “Good Eats: The Return” will launch Thursday, Feb. 18 on Discovery’s new streaming service, discovery+, rather than debuting on the show’s longtime home, Food Network.
Per Discovery+, “In the series that inspired a generation of food fans, Alton explores the origins of ingredients, decodes culinary customs and presents food and equipment trends. Punctuated by unusual interludes, simple preparations and unconventional discussions, each episode features food in its finest and funniest form.”
The first three Discovery+ episodes of “Good Eats” will cover bone marrow, cold brew coffee and fried breads: “In the premiere episodes, Alton tackles bone marrow and delivers everything you need to know to enjoy ‘God’s butter’ at home; opens all-new dimensions of coffee enjoyment with an exploration of cold brew – and no,...

Food Network personality Alton Brown apologized Wednesday for the “flippant reference” he made to the Holocaust in a tweet the night before saying, “It was a very poor use of judgement [sic] and in poor taste.”
On Tuesday, the “Good Eats” host tweeted, “Do you think the the [sic] camp uniforms will be striped, like the ones at Auschwitz or will plaid be in vogue?,” drawing a comparison to the current U.S. political climate and the World War II genocide of the European Jewish community, in which some six million Jews were murdered at concentration camps like Auschwitz.
When one user responded, “Depends on what you’re worth when you go in,” Brown replied, “I have no gold fillings.”

On Monday afternoon, celebrity chef and Food Network personality Alton Brown embodied what is probably the feelings of a lot of people on the day before the election with a hilarious pre-election Twitter rant that pretty much got to the heart of this super stressful time.
It kicked off unassumingly enough at 4:49 p.m. Pt, when the “Good Eats” host tweeted “No matter what happens tomorrow, we’ll still have tiny chocolate doughnuts.” This true statement (good lord this election is stressful you guys) lived by itself for exactly an hour, until at 5:49 p.m. Brown followed it with “I’m seriously thinking about @LittleDebbie #NuttyBars and cigarettes. Honestly, like at the same time.”
Brown only waited 15 minutes before his next tweet, which pretty much set the tone for things to come. “So many Food Network people are like “oh, I’m going to braise short ribs in elderberry jam…...

Alton Brown and Food Network have cooked up a wickedly sweet Halloween treat for “Good Eats” fans: The cable channel will air a new “Good Eats” primetime special from Brown next month. And yes, of course it’s about candy.

Alton Brown was nearly three months into quarantine when he decided to get adventurous. The chef and host of Food Network staples like “Good Eats” and “Iron Chef America” was preparing curry with his wife when they realized they didn’t have any rice on hand. Instead, they turned to an unlikely substitute — oatmeal, mixed with heaps of ghee and turmeric — to pull together their savory dish.
“That’s probably not something I would have done pre-quarantine,” admits Brown. “At this point, I’m looking at everything in the kitchen a little differently.”
A license to get creative is emblematic of Brown’s spontaneous nature on “Quarantine Quitchen,” a new YouTube series he created with his wife while sheltering at home. Since ingredients are scarce and people are exercising more caution about going to the grocery store, the coronavirus pandemic has given the general public a renewed appreciation for cooking.

Halloween is still a couple weeks away, but Food Network is already decking its halls with holiday content. This year, the cable channel is serving up more seasonal programming than ever, growing its themed episodes by 40% compared to 2018’s slate, and it kicked things off at the end of last month with some spooktacular specials.
The reason behind the big push into making the season brighter with more Halloween, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas and New Year’s Eve offerings is how much the shows lit up last year’s Nielsen data for Food Network, which scored its highest-rated fourth quarter since 2015 (+9% vs. prior year), largely driven by the holiday-programming lineup.
“Looking at last year’s ratings and what we had done in 2017, we definitely, in both years — and never before as aggressively as this year — have taken a big step up in the volume of content,” Food Network president Courtney White told TheWrap.

“Good Eats” makes its long-awaited return to Food Network on Sunday with the premiere of “Good Eats: The Return,” the on-the-nose title of Season 15 of Alton Brown’s beloved science-meets-cooking show.
Both the cable channel and Brown have been promoting the stuffing out of the show’s new episodes, with Food Network launching the premiere early online and the celebrity cook hosting a Reddit Ama this week, plus fielding many, many fan questions on Twitter.
And with this level of enthusiasm for the return of “Good Eats,” we had to ask Brown why he stopped making the show, which ran from 1999 to 2012, in the first place — and why he finally decided to bring it back.
“It’s a complicated question,” Brown told TheWrap. “I stopped not because the network wanted me to stop or anybody else wanted me to stop; I kind of wanted to take a break for a few years.

First, he shared a photo of their dog next to a glass of champagne with the caption, "Mom and dad got married on a boat and all I got was a glass of weird fizzy stuff." He followed up with a photo of himself and Elizabeth in their causal wedding attire with the captioned, "Yeah, we wore sneakers. #MyBouquetWasABloodyMary." He confirmed it one last time with a tweet. "Yes, @IngramElizabeth and I did in fact tie the knot this weekend," he wrote. How nice! If you're a Food Network fan, you know there are a myriad of role models in the industry. But The Kitchen star Geoffrey Zakarian looks up to one in particular: Alton Brown. Closer Weekly caught up with Geoffrey, 59, at an event on Tuesday, Sept. 25 for the Zakarian Pro For Home Non-Stick Cast Iron Cookware collection — out Oct. 28 on QVC — at his Midtown NYC restaurant, The Lambs Club, where he gushed over who he looks up to in the "food world." "It has to be some of the people who have really lasted, and lasted in a good way. Alton Brown is so smart. He’s so creative and he’s so interesting. Alton is like the king. He’s so much fun in person," Geoffrey — who is a chef/partner of Point Royal at The Diplomat Beach Resort — gushed. "When we do Iron Chef and we're on a...

Just a few weeks ago when Gordon Ramsay offered a definite shut down on whether pineapple belongs on pizza, his answer didn’t sit well with Alton Brown.
Responding to a tweet on People Food’s Twitter page on Monday, Brown said, “If I want pineapple on my pizza, I’ll by God have it.” And in an interview with People on Wednesday, the Iron Chef Gauntlet host elaborated his stance on the hot topic, which was mainly fueled by Iceland president Gudni Thorlacius Johannesson’s suggestion to put a ban on the flavor combo.

Becoming an Iron Chef is no easy task, but you can bet the cooks have the highest quality tools and ingredients available to help them along the way.
To prove it, host Alton Brown takes People behind-the-scenes of the set of Iron Chef Gauntlet in the exclusive video above.

Food Network host and bowtie enthusiast Alton Brown recently spoke with online food magazine Eater and addressed the possible return of his popular series Good Eats.
Over the course of 14 seasons, Brown's series took a scientific approach to cooking that quickly garnered a large fanbase. Throughout its run, the series held consistently high viewership and critical acclaim, earning a Peabody Award in 2006. In 2011, Brown decided to retire the show after a total of 244 episodes and eight specials.
Now, he says he may be considering a reboot ... with a key difference:
Eater: We saw your tweet announcing that you'd packed up all of the episodes of Good Eats and were sending them off to storage. We have to ask: Would you ever consider bringing Good Eats back?

The glut of 2014 TV comedies continues this week, making for yet another lengthy podcast. First we look at another full week in comedy, including a preview of Fox’s The Last Man on Earth, some The Odd Couple pilot talk, and plenty of Jane the Virgin, Girls, and Looking discussion. Then we look at a handful of genre series as well as HBO’s documentary series The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst, before diving in with the dramas, including a quick preview of ABC’s Secrets and Lies and fun episodes of Better Call Saul, Fortitude, Justified, and of course, The Americans. Afterward, Noel Kirkpatrick of TV.com returns to induct the DVD Shelf’s first educational and/or cooking program entry, the delightfully cheesy, yet encyclopedic Good Eats.

Alton Brown is the latest celebrity chef taking his cooking game to YouTube. The Iron Chef America host has debuted Cook Smart, a YouTube series focused on inventive cookery techniques. Cook Smart is styled similarly to Good Eats, the Food Network program Brown hosted for more than a decade. As he did on his TV show, Brown brings a scientific approach to his YouTube channel, encouraging his viewers to get creative. He also injects a touch of his trademark dorky humor to the recipe. In the first Cook Smart video, Brown shows off a kitchen hack that turns an egg carton into a dolly for holding upside-down mustard bottles. The second Eat Smart video uses his understanding of thermodynamics to instruct his viewers how they can make as many as 48 hard-cooked eggs at once using the oven. An image posted to Twitter teases a third episode, which looks to be a grizzly,...

When I was a kid, I learned from TV all the time. I learned Spanish phrases from Sesame Street; about the Fibonacci sequence from Square One; and that I did not have to take anyone's word for it from Reading Rainbow. As an adult, I certainly learned about food science from Good Eats and America's Test Kitchen, and maybe some enthusiasm for art from The Joy of Painting. But my main TV education is coming from reality shows that are in no way designed to teach their viewers things. I can't help it, though. I really did learn how to pose more flatteringly in photos from watching Top Model.I'm a big fan of reality-contest shows, and I have picked up some skills in my travels. Top Chef affected the way I cook — definitely with more acid, per Gail's constant request, and also with more salt, per Padma's recurring critiques...

BBC America has picked up the second season of Atlantis after its big debut following the Doctor Who anniversary special.
In an interesting development, ABC Family has ordered a full season of its upcoming drama Chasing Life, according to Deadline. Since it has yet to debut, that suggests the network has really liked episodes made so far.
For a while, The Food Network did well by dropping most of the cooking shows in favor for lifestyle programming and reality shows. However, now it’s losing viewers and Vulture theorizes that it might be the lack of cooking shows that’s causing it. And it’s not that viewers would be lured back to wanting to watch Good Eats on a channel full of Cutthroat Kitchens. The problem is, the channel no longer has a way to nurture promising talent.

Zap2it: You were host of a Food Network cooking show called "Good Eats," which still airs on weekday mornings. Does that help in your relationship with the chefs on Food's cooking competition show "The Next Iron Chef: Redemption," airing Sundays?
Alton Brown: I'm not a member of the [chef] club. I'm not considered one of them. They don't treat me like I'm one of them. I don't own a restaurant; I don't hobnob with them. In a way, I can't. I couldn't do the job that I do, on either "Iron Chef America" or "The Next Iron Chef," if I was all buddy-buddy with everybody.
I know and respect them and treat them with respect; therefore they treat me with respect.
Zap2it: "Good Eats" mixed pop culture, science and history with the art of cooking. Do you miss doing the show?
Alton Brown: Yes and no.

While the "Awkward." season premiere sure sounded like we were going to get some finality to things, it actually left things exactly as we found them to begin the hour.

It's hard to imagine the Food Network without thinking of Alton Brown. For 13 years, viewers of all ages invited Brown and his Peabody Award-winning show 'Good Eats' into their homes. After nearly 250 highly entertaining and deliciously appetizing episodes, Brown decided to hang up his apron and retire his popular show.
But the self-described "mastermind" (or at least that's what it says on his business cards) has a few more tricks up his sleeve, including several 'Good Eats' specials, continuing to offer smart commentary on 'Iron Chef America' and returning as host of Season 4 of 'The Next Iron Chef' (premieres Sun., Oct. 30, 9Pm Et on Food Network).
We caught up with Brown to talk about the upcoming season, saying goodbye to 'Good Eats' and why you should never call him a chef -- unless you want to insult him.

Good Eats and Iron Chef America host Alton Brown has been struggling with his celebrity status recently. On Monday, in preparation for his upcoming cookbook tour, Brown issued a 1,289-word "fanifesto" in which he laid some ground rules for how his fans should treat him. Things that are not okay include him signing things that are alive, taking pictures with camera phones, taking pictures with his family, talking to a fan on the phone and responding to everyone through social media channels. Oh, and don't block his exit or talk to him in a public restroom.
Ruth Bourdain has some additional rules for celebrity chefs, in response to Brown's "a bit douchey" fanifesto, including:
Yes, celebrity chefs will sign things besides books. Spoons, cutting boards, mixers, you name it. Most won’t sign living things except for Todd English. That guy will sign your private parts.

Last week, Alton Brown filmed the last-ever episode of successful food show Good Eats after 13 years on the Food Network, NPR reports. Brown announced in May that Good Eats would be ending at the end of the current season.
Brown has recently been a controversial figure. Many in the food world criticized him for his criticism of the molecular gastronomy movement. This was an especially surprising controversy in light of Brown's general enthusiasm for exactitude in the kitchen; he seemed like someone who would love the intersection of science and cooking.
