Soman is brought up as an orphan despite having rich parents. They are busy in themselves and are aloof as parents . His father has a long term affair with the maid ( a young vulnerable Bhagyalakshmi ) . His mother is aware but does not involve much in this .His grand mother an affectionate matriarch Ponamma tries to fill the void . He is surrounded all sides by Infidelity and disloyalty in many relations . The movie basically is about his own inner conflict .
His own girlfriend a quite and mature Subha vows to be with him always . He keeps stalling settling down with her as he is still unsure .
His chirpy chatty street smart friend ( a lovable Sukumaran ) returns home. He starts off as an polite friend of Shubha and they become very close during Soman's absences . Egged on by a manipulative Sukumaran , Shubha gives in unwittingly .
She gets drawn to him voluntarily over a period of time . When Soman discovers this , he is shocked and starts questioning the sanctity of relations .
A parallel story is of Jagathy and his own relations .
The movie drools and drags at several places . In the end , Soman decides to marry Bhagya lakshmi the mute maid who is an orphan and has to fend for herself. He understands her as he himself has no one to talk to and fall back on . He is at peace finally after reaching his destination. Makes a poignant heavy viewing .
