A treat for Jane Froman Fans.

Films about or films starring Jane Froman are almost impossible to obtain legally so it was nice to find this gem from 1954 'The Jane Froman Show' Presented in black and white the show runs for approximately 20 minutes and features Jane in a studio version of the Scottish Highlands backed by some rather camp acting extras in kilts! Jane sings several songs associated with Scotland and closes the show with her signature song 'With A Song In My Heart'.

The show was sponsored by General Electric and features adverts for their own photographic flash bulbs. The picture and sound quality is perhaps better than one might expect from a 50 year old TV programme.

It is great to see the beautiful and talented Jane Froman at her peak.

With A Song in Our Hearts ****

What wonderful memories of Jane Froman I have from these 15 minute television shows.

Jane was just awesome here. The show came out around the same time as the great biographical film about Jane starring Susan Hayward in the title role.

The show began and ended with Jane singing her trademark song- With A Song in My Heart. No one but no one, including Perry Como, could belt that song out like Jane did. It was truly her song. In fact, we owe a debt to Rodgers and Hart for writing it.

Naturally, in 15 minutes, how much could be shown? Fortunately, we were not bothered with commercials nearly to the extent that we have them today.

Jane danced and always wore long dresses to conceal the brace on her leg that she wore from the time of her 1943 plane accident.

I vividly remember Arthur and Catherine Murray appearing on the show and Jane danced the waltz.

...But I always knew, I could live life through-

With a song in my heart for you!

According to Alex McNeil's "Total Television" guidebook (1984), "Jane Froman's USA Canteen" (it's original title - later shortened to "The Jane Froman Show") started on CBS in the fall of 1952 as a half-hour program on Saturdays, showcasing the talents of men and women then serving in the military. As a promotion of Ms. Froman and her show, she was given the sobriquet "Sweetheart of the Armed Forces." By December 1952, the show was cut to 15 minutes and moved to Tuesdays and Thursdays, following the regular 15-minute news broadcast. Eventually, the show was aired only on Thursdays.
