a masala of comedy, music and character

I saw Mix upon my trip to Budapest this winter. I must say that I was surprised after seeing the sexy poster that this film has feelings. It is a really a European character study done up with ravin' music and great style. It is an odd hybrid but it works. The movie features great acting all around, great ethnic hip-hop, great scenery and wonderful editing. The movie has a beat and it really grooves at times. Then its quiet and thoughtful and yes, even emotional. Its not what I expected but I found this fish out of water tale to be truly touching. I highly recommend it and hope it makes it to the States. The Lovy boys seem to really blend their American and Hungarian sensibilities into a unique and entertaining Mix. I want the soundtrack as soon as it comes out.

    Wonderful film!

This movie is certainly one of those delicious surprises that come along only occasionally. I didn't know what to expect when I found my seat to watch this movie, but I was completely blown away by it. The performances of the actors, in both English and Hungarian, were terrific. Alex Weed couldn't have been more perfect for the part of a young man coming of age. Jeffrey Schechter as the hustling cab driver is hysterical. The grandma character made me think of my own grandmother and brought tears to my eyes. The female lead is sexy, lovely and strong. The rest of the cast is super, neither over nor underplayed.

There's this threesome scene that is hot, and should not be missed.

The storyline, while simple, is smart, engaging and moves along at a good clip. The fresh glimpse of Budapest that "Mix" provides is satisfying. The music cooks with gas. The ending, which I will not spoil, is great.

If you like exotic locales, invigorating music, kinetic a visual style, engaging stories and interesting characters, this movie's for you.

    Check it out, 'yo!

    Trash

This is a terrible movie with a stupid plot and two-dimensional characters: all the women are whores, all the men are in the mafia, the police are corrupt, and an American saves the day. Strange that a film made by Hungarians is filled with such self-loathing for the country. Given the premise of a film about DJ culture, the music is actually pretty bad. Hungary has some fantastic DJs whose work is occasionally used by local filmmakers, but the Lovy brothers obviously don't know any of them.

The Hungarian actors are good, but its pretty clear their potential is underused. Also, was there no one around to help them with their English? Some lines are so mangled that they're unintelligible. Not fun bad, jut plain bad.

the art of MIXIN' - stuff in2 a movie

This movie just came out in Hungary where it sort of originates from, and it is a very pleasant surprise. It is a simple story, sometimes with kinda emblematic scene, like a Hungarian cab driver that speaks fluent English - even before he finds out that our guy (brand new talent Alex Weed) is an American guy in Budapest.

Or some other time our man, Mitch (still Alex Weed) enters a club where they dance to Hungarian folk music, but the turntables are connected bad to the amp so bad noise only, no music. He comes in, fixes it, and makes friends in a minute .. I should call this a week scene ... should but it still works fine .. and i dindt mention the very good ones.

The grand ma is at lest as cool as Aunt Lotte from Stranger than Paradise... she's not only an old lady . she's a very well built character .. one night Mitch doesn't go out but stays with her at home and she rests her feet in his lap and he gives them a massage .. i don't know how good this sounds but it is a very cool scene .. and it's just one of those ..

I thought that it'd be just another of those movies in which another foreign student writes his/her story, builds his/her picture about Budapest, that would hardly even fit .. but NO ! This is a cool one, i can even say that as a Hungarian person :: very MIX of art and story telling, speed and style, a good movie, at least 1 of the (few) best movies this year

    Finally, a cool American/Hungarian movie!

Kudos to the producers for making this fun, touching, witty, intelligent film that touches on expat life in Budapest, Hungary. I watched it with my teenage kids (who loved it) whom, I suspect, is the real target audience. Lot's of sex, drugs and rock 'n roll (or whatever they call it these days).

Still, I was surprised and pleased that the movie deals with themes interesting to those of us pushing 50. The story deals, in part, with the healing of old, still-tender wounds between a son who haven't spoke to one another in over 20 years. A real treat for me was the performance of the mother whose character so convincingly made me think of my own grandmother, I could swear she was the basis of the character.

On the negative, the camera moved a bit much for me, but then I'm an old fogy.

    I recommend it highly!
