    Very good movie

I rented this movie the other day simply because I wanted to see how they could possibly do a sequel to the first Dirty Dancing. However, I don't think I would have otherwise. BUT I am really glad that I did. I loved this movie! I really liked the story line and it also gave me a brief glimpse of the history of Cuba. That in itself made it one of my new favorite movies. Combine this with the music and the awesome dancing and it becomes a fantastic movie. I am not going to compare it to the first DD movie. It deserves to be set out on it's own. It is definitely worthy. The young actors do an awesome job of portraying the characters in this movie. This is a movie that I would like to own and I don't feel that way about a lot of movies. Congratulations to the producers, directors and all of those involved, I will be recommending this one to friends and family.

    Surprisingly watchable

'Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights' is surprisingly watchable.

I was expecting a rather tame and boring return to the world of 'Dirty Dancing', though it actually produces a fine dance romance flick. Of course compared to the excellent and far superior original it is a downgrade, but for what it is I had a decent time watching.

Romola Garai and Diego Luna have solid enough chemistry onscreen, while John Slattery offers firm support. Sela Ward is alright, not helped by how the makers chose to portray her character - Jeannie becomes quite irredeemable at one point, with the film's attempts to 'fix' that totally failing to convince. That's about it for cast positives, though it was neat to see a familiar face from the 1987 flick appear.

The dance and Cuban revolution parts of the story don't mesh amazingly, a bit forced perhaps, but all in all I'd say they just narrowly made it work. I will say the dancing numbers and soundtrack aren't as good as they could've/should've been, yet I did still appreciate a few bits of music: the intro piece and the use of Wyclef Jean's 'Dance Like This', I never knew until now that that latter track was the original of Shakira's 'Hips Don't Lie' - you learn something new every day!

    a very underrated movie

I thought that this was a very good movie but underrated by many.

Diego Luna feels like he was born for this role and Romola Garai was wonderful. This was Romola's first American movie and although she has an accent(she's Brittain)you don't hear it even one bit.

Then there's the dancing. The dancing in this movie was great! Especially considering that neither Luna nor Garai had any dancing experience! You get both Latin dance and Cuban dance. The mix is absolutely wonderful.

The music is very pleasing to the ears. You can easily enjoy listening to it outside the movie. The only problem here is that the music is way too modern. This movie is set in the 50's and the music just isn't.

All in all you have the feeling that this movie has everything it needs (fine acting, great dancing, good music)even the feel of this movie is good and believe me, the place where it is all set in is just stunningly beautiful.

Still there's something not right. And this goes toward the script. The whole movie is well done in story (beside a few very stupid lines)except the last 15-20 minutes. I'm not going to spoil the ending here, you should see it for yourself, but to me it was a disappointing ending.

Then there's only one question left: Which one is better? I guess that I have to say that the first dirty dancing is much better. Mostly story like.

I said that this movie is very underrated and it is.

    Chinese girl's point of view

firstly, i wanna announce that i'm a Chinese girl. i never go aboard, just stay in our country, so maybe there are some mistakes or something too difficult to understand. hope you guys can understand. by the way, if you can give me some advice to me, i'll appreciate that very much. thank you! Its name and the first music of the movie took me into a Cuba world. It's so hot. It makes people want to swing their hips. Especially, my hips swung on the seat.

The boy looks like a little shy, when he didn't dance. But as dancing, he is another person, so attractive, so cute, and so hot! As same as the girl, before she loved the Latin dancing, she was a "lambkin lady". However, I think, the passion under her peaceful appearance is so ardent and was oppressed. In fact she also don't know why she want to study hard and go to the college. These seem her dreams, but lack of some passion and exciting. The Latin dancing gives her an exit to her passion.

With the exciting rhythms and the dizzy Havana Nights, I felt I was in there. I want to have a totally free dance! I love such dance! In fact, I have learned samba for a while. That feeling I can understand, so soft, so free, so passionate! The love story didn't have a perfect result, but the dancing still goes well. The dancing is the spirit of this movie! I love this movie!

    pure yum

I'll lay odds that every straight girl and gay guy out there dreams of a guy like Javier. We watch this movie because, on a very primal level, we want to be Katey having this experience with Javier. If that's not why you're watching this movie, then I'm not sure why you bothered, quite frankly. We want to feel what she feels as he wakes her up. Javier's fresh and exciting and different, contrasting a sensual magnetism and uninhibited nature that is purely Diego Luna with a respect for Katey in the little movements like putting her dress strap back on her shoulder and offering to carry her bookbag. If anyone is uninhibited, it's Diego. If you don't believe me, watch Y tu mamá también. Steam comes off that movie of the hetero and homo-erotic variety.

Is Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights the best thing ever, no, but it doesn't matter. Diego and Romola's attraction and chemistry blaze so intensely that nobody actually cares about a plot at the end of the day. The entire film could have been about them dancing and making out, oh wait, it kinda was. But I love it. I love the Latin American influence. I love that Diego Luna can make me fall in love with him with one smile and hip wiggle. And I even love that it makes me cry. It's the exotic nature of the film that makes it exciting and sensual and they cast the perfect exotic leading man.
