    A golf away

I know the show wasn't designed to be bingewatched so maybe the gloss is taken from this one after the previous 2 or 3 episodes were very good.

There is an end of series feel to this story but it may not have actually been filmed in the sequence of stories shown.

A good cast again but it seems as though are not working to their strengths.

This is the last episode to feature Tweedy, leaving after just 4 stories and for me, she really hasn't fitted in or maybe not just had the time to do so.

A fair watch with a little of the humour we tend to see and some rather wooden extras.

It just feels rushed and underworked.

The show was well established by now and deserved a bit more polish.

    Best of series 7.

Detective Donald Fitzgerald is murdered the night of his retirement party, he was attacked and bizarrely had golf balls placed in his mouth. Andy suspects Danny Macer, a criminal that Fitzgerald let slip through the net.

A solid end of series mystery, perhaps the best of the seventh series, which has been good overall, but not a patch on earlier episodes.

The best bit, the ending, a few unexpected twists and revelation, and some real tension, it was a great sequence.

DC Sheldon looks a lot like Peter, a casual viewer could well end up mixing the pair up.

I thought Diana Quick really stood out as The ACC, she and Andy shared some good scenes.

The final episode for Bomber, she was never really given enough to do, at times she just seemed to be there to make the numbers up, it was a bit of a waste.

    7.5/10.

    Dalziel reaches another height

Andy Dalziel seems to be fighting against his ghosts from the past, as he finds out that there is much more to the death of his colleague (hours after his retirement) than just the involvement of someone who walked because of the errors of that retired colleague. For a man of such ample proportions, he surely can deal with details. Dalziel and Pascoe are amongst England's finest. Not Morse, nor Midsomer murders, but still very much a class of their own. Miss Quick is wonderful as she combines female power in uniform with the sheer elegance of a truly mature actress. If only Peter Pascoe could produce a genuine smile. Qui custodet ipso custodes (who shall overlook the over-lookers).

    Changing of the Guard

This was a pretty good episode, but like another reviewer said it had a season/series ending feel to it. There's two more episodes left, but they were part of a holiday story arc that felt very different than what came before. For Love Nor Money is also part of a long line of plot devices to get Andy off the case and doesn't really last long, so why keep doing it?

Speaking of Andy, did we ever find out who runs him over halfway through the ep? Perhaps it was mentioned and I missed it, but it was very strange that a senior officer was hit by a car and nobody seemed interested in at least tracking down CC TV footage, despite even Peter suspecting he had imagined it.

Aside from those points, and that this seems to be Tweety's last episode for reasons that aren't provided in the show (just when she was starting to get more lines!) the rest of the story works fairly well IMHO.

The last appearance by Keeley Forsyth as Harris.
    • Goofs
At 21.38, the white board shows that the murder took place on 23/10/01 but two stories prior to this one the date is shown as 12/09/02 so the show's must have been shown out of sequence.

[talking about a murder victim who was found on a golf course]

Dr. Paul Ashurst: There's evidence of three blows to the head with a sand wedge.

Det. Supt. Andy Dalziel: [hearing "sandwich"] It must have been a bloody stale one!

Dr. Paul Ashurst: A sand wedge is a type of golf club.

Dr. Paul Ashurst: Yes, thank you, doctor. I *am* aware of that.
