- TriviaThe name of the movie (Cöl) means "desert". The actual title was going to be "The Blue Desert", implying that the sea, in its vastness, is like a desert for a man left alone in the middle of it (the lead character's fate). However, the printhouse owner thought it must be a mistake, "because the desert cannot be blue", and called the filmmakers. When he couldn't reach anyone, he used his initiative and printed all the posters with the title shortened to Cöl. When the filmmakers finally found out, rather than spending money on new posters, they decided to go along with it and released "The Blue Desert" under the title "The Desert."
