Tremors 4 : La Légende commence

Jamie Kennedy and Michael Gross in Tremors 6: A Cold Day in Hell (2018)
Tremors 6 Gets a Release Date
Jamie Kennedy and Michael Gross in Tremors 6: A Cold Day in Hell (2018)
Clear your calendars, lovers of monsters and B-movies, because Tremors 6 is on the way. And now we know when you will be able to see it. Just don't expect to be seeing it in a theater near you, as it will likely be direct-to-video, but still. Thanks to franchise star Michael Gross, it has been confirmed that Tremors 6 will rear its head from the sand, and maybe even the ice this time around, in January 2018.

Michael Gross, who (usually) plays Burt Gummer in the Tremors franchise, took to Facebook to announced that Universal has settled on a release date for Tremors 6. The movie is now set to arrive on January 30, 2018. That will put it right in the heart of a pretty slow time during the year in terms of movie releases, so that could pay off. But the movie won't really be relying on box office since...

Kevin Bacon, Finn Carter, and Fred Ward in Tremors (1990)
Tremors 6 Is Happening According to Star Michael Gross
Kevin Bacon, Finn Carter, and Fred Ward in Tremors (1990)
It isn't at all uncommon for sci-fi or horror franchises to get a few low-budget sequels that many people don't even realize were released in the first place. That has been the case with the Tremors franchise for about two decades now and a trend that is going to be continuing with yet another movie in the series. Did you even know there was a Tremors 5? Well there was, and apparently it did well enough for Universal to move ahead with Tremors 6.

Actor Michael Gross, who has fully embraced the franchise and has appeared in all of the sequels, as well as the 2003 Tremors TV series, recently made the announcement that Tremors 6 has been given the green light. The 69-year-old actor took to his Facebook page in order to make the announcement to his fans and he seemed pretty enthusiastic about it. Here is what he had to say.

Tremors: examining its straight-to-dvd sequels
Kirsten Howard Oct 6, 2016

The 1990 cult classic monster movie Tremors has spawned four sequels (with another on the way) but are they any good?

This article contains spoilers for the assorted Tremors movies.

You’d be hard-pressed to find someone who hates Tremors. In fact, while I was watching these sequels I ran a quick poll online asking people to choose their favourite 90s monster movie and Tremors won in an absolute landslide – leaving even the much-beloved Gremlins 2 in the dust.

The original cost a rather humble $11 million to make and made $5 million profit at the box office. Not a huge amount, but its subsequent popularity on home release and TV means that, 26 years later, we’ve just received word that a sixth instalment has gone into production. It seems the Tremors love is still very much alive and kicking (or should that be ‘squirming’?).

Kevin Bacon – who has at...

Duck and Cover, Here Comes Tremors 5: A Film Review
*full disclosure: a Blu-ray screener of this film was provided by Universal Pictures Home Entertainment for review. Director: Don Michael Paul. Writers: M.A. Deuce, C.J. Strebor, William Truesmith and John Whelpley. Cast: Michael Gross, Jamie Kennedy. More than ten years after the last Tremors film, Tremors 4: The Legend Begins, (which is actually a prequel) the flesh-hungry graboids are back for more blood! Too bad nobody cares. This fifth film in the series is a sequel to Tremors 3: Back to Perfection. Even with the return of franchise star Michael Gross ("Family Ties") as Burt Gummer, and the addition of another horror franchise star, Jamie Kennedy, (Scream series) almost nothing is salvageable from the wreckage of this unnecessary fifth installment. Admittedly, this viewer has not seen any of the Tremors sequels, but thoroughly enjoyed the 1990 original, so was hoping for at least some cheesy B-Movie-type entertainment. Unfortunately, entertainment was not high on the agenda.

Tremors 5: Bloodlines Review
Tremors 5: Bloodlines – talk about beating a dead Graboid well beyond its final death rattle. Tremors 4: The Legend Begins looked to spell an end to Burt Gummer’s monster hunting days back in 2004, but after ten plus years, the masses demanded more wormy horrors, and director Don Michael Paul their outcries. We’ve seen the underground killers morph into Shriekers, and then take flight as Ass-Blasters, so what surprises could possibly be in store? Maybe gills to allow underwater travel? Bulletproof skin? Graboids with freakin’ lazer beams on their heads? Nah – they just get bigger and meaner, because everything’s more vicious in the bush.

Michael Gross returns as legendary survivalist Burt Gummer, who now has his own Bear Grylls-like reality show (along with his own brand of marinades). With the Graboid infestation thought to be contained, Gummer is focusing on building his brand, but it’s not...

Kevin Bacon Wants to Battle Graboids in 'Tremors' Reboot
Kevin Bacon, Finn Carter, and Fred Ward in Tremors (1990)
Last month, Universal Studios Home Entertainment released the first trailer for Tremors 5: Bloodlines, which debuts on October 6. This sequel is the latest installment in a long-running franchise that started with the 1990 cult classic Tremors, starring Kevin Bacon, but the first sequel since 2004's Tremors 4: The Legend Begins. Kevin Bacon was recently promoting his indie drama Cop Car, which hits theaters this weekend, where the actor revealed he actually wants to reboot Tremors.

"I had a real dream right now, which is to reboot it, and to see the character 25 years down the line, to see what that guy may have become. There is an example of a movie that, when I started thinking about it, I hadn't seen it in 25 years and I went back and watched it recently, I was really pleasantly surprised. It's a beautiful looking movie, it really is a good film."

The actor also...

Kevin Bacon, Finn Carter, and Fred Ward in Tremors (1990)
Kevin Bacon wants to star in a proper sequel to cult classic Tremors
Kevin Bacon, Finn Carter, and Fred Ward in Tremors (1990)
Kevin Bacon has said that he would love to star in a sequel to cult western horror movie Tremors.

The actor played lead character Valentine 'Val' McKee in the 1990 original, but did not star in any of its direct-to-video follow-ups or TV spinoff.

Asked which of his past movies would benefit from modern special effects, Bacon told Metro: "Definitely Tremors but part of what's great about that movie is there are next to no digital effects.

"The monsters are done with puppetry, and it's still odd, funny and scary - it's a cool accomplishment.

"I'd love to do something else with Tremors and revisit the character 25 years later."

Sequel Tremors 2: Aftershocks was released in 1996, followed by Tremors 3: Back to Perfection (2001), Tremors 4: The Legend Begins (2004) and the 13-episode Sci-Fi Channel show Tremors (2003).

A fifth direct-to-video movie Tremors 5: Bloodline is due for release later this year, but will also not star Bacon.

Your 2013 Halloween Season TV Preview (abridged) with Schedules
Last year we ran a schedule of every TV/Cable network schedule we could find that could be construed as Horror or Halloween related for the month of October. Let’s just say it proved useful for our readers and even for our staff when they were looking to find something to watch, wanted to program their DVR’s or didn’t want to miss out on some great “live” Horror. Isn’t there something about having a movie fed to you on TV as opposed to watching it on Blu-ray or DVD or streaming? We may not like commercials, but the randomness that you can associate with a TV program itinerary is novel. It removes a little bit of control from the audience who is all to concerned with being in control these days (just look at the reasons behind publishing a piece like this).

So here’s the 2013 Halloween Seasonal TV Preview,...

Movies to Watch After You’ve Seen ‘Riddick’: Any Westerns
Initially I set out to compile a list of specific movies to watch after you’ve seen Riddick, in the same fashion as I’ve done for other new releases. But in an attempt to pick out titles worth recommending, I couldn’t choose. The thing about Riddick is that it’s not too directly derivative of any individual precursors. While the original movie in the franchise, Pitch Black, could mostly be traced back to 3:10 to Yuma given its central setup involving a prisoner transport plot, Riddick is more of a typical Western with tropes found in too many examples to mention. Part of the problem might be that it’s kind of all over the place. In the first act we follow Riddick (Vin Diesel) through a solo outing on a desolate planet. He faces trials of survival against monsters, making the early section more like a Harryhausen movie than a cowboy flick, though...

Another Tremors Flick is in the Works
The folks over at Cinema Blend and Shock Till You Drop have confirmed that another Tremors flick is being developed. The fourth sequel to the Kevin Bacon classic will head straight to DVD. Along with Bacon, the original Tremors starred Fred Ward, Finn Carter, Michael Gross and Reba McEntire. It centered on natives of a small isolated town who must defend themselves against strange underground creatures, know as Graboids, which are killing them one by one. Cinema Blend says the action will shift locations to Australia and be called Tremors: The Thunder from Down Under. This may be the fifth Tremors flick, which will probably be just as bad as the other sequels, but that title is pretty kick ass. Tremors is a great flick and had the makings of a great franchise, but for whatever reason all of its sequels - Tremors II: Aftershocks, Tremors 3: Back to Perfection,...
