Adam Goldberg returns to the horror genre in The Exorcism as a stern director with something darker gripping his lead actor. Co-starring with Russell Crowe, Goldberg praises the film's attention to detail and his ability to tap into the worst side of himself. Crowe specifically requested Goldberg for the role, showcasing their strong on-screen chemistry and admiration for each other's work.
Adam Goldberg is back in the director's chair in a different fashion with The Exorcism. After finding early success with a major role in Richard Linklater's Dazed and Confused, Goldberg has since made a name for himself both in front of and behind the camera in a number of iconic projects, including the Oscar-winning Saving Private Ryan and A Beautiful Mind, as well as co-writing and directing I Love Your Work and No Way Jose. More recently, Goldberg has been a series regular on the Queen Latifah-led The Equalizer,...

Judy Greer has appeared in over a hundred movies and TV shows since she began her Hollywood career in 1997. One of her earliest roles was in the 1998 romcom, Kissing A Fool, starring David Schwimmer, Jason Lee, and Mili Avital. The Universal Pictures movie was a complete flop, but Greer would continue her career working as a co-star in comedies and romcoms during the 1990s and 2000s. In the 2000s, she branched out and began work in more serious roles, such as the psychological thriller, I Love Your Work, and the 2002 Japanese fantasy movie, The Cat Returns.

"It's a good thing you're in New York and I'm in Los Angeles then," Mel Brooks says, before howling with laughter. He's just been informed that, as preparation for getting the 90-year-old filmmaker on the phone, the interviewer he's speaking to has consumed a large amount of black coffee and baked beans — the same combination that fuels the notorious, and extremely noisy campfire sequence in Blazing Saddles. "Actually, three thousand miles between us might not be enough — it depends on the coffee. There are easier ways to get in the mood to talk to me,...

As you may already know, artist Greg Capullo recently ended his run on Batman with Scott Snyder last week. As a way to pay tribute to Capullo’s work on the comic, artist Rick Celis recreated all of the cover art that was created for the Batman comics Capello worked on and reimagined them in the style of Batman: The Animated Series. I’ve included some of my favorite pieces below, but to see the full collection of them, click here.

One day Jesse Eisenberg was walking down the street with his cousin when a fan yelled out, “Hey, I love your work.” The star thanked the fan, and his cousin interrupted: “How do you know he was talking to you?” In some circles, the star of “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and “The Social Network” isn’t the biggest celebrity in the family. His cousin, Jamey Eisenberg, is a senior fantasy writer and on-air personality for CBS Sports with a podcast, several columns, regular radio spots and a video show on CBSSports.com. I still get nervous about certain interviews. It's human. I love movies dearly, and have since I was young, and when I talk to filmmakers who I respect enormously, I tend to either talk waaaaaaay too fast or just overcomplicate my questions. Once things start, though, a good conversation is a good conversation, and I relax into things. That's particularly easy when you're talking to someone who give back as good as they get, and that's the Coen Brothers in spades. Three quick points before we dig in. First, enjoy Backstory, a new video series we're doing here at HitFix in which I pull back the curtain a bit on the stories that went unreported or untold over the last 25 years while I've been working here in La. While I spoke to the Coens about To The White Sea during our interview, we didn't get into the impact that the film's implosion had on them,...

#OscarsSoWhite has been trending (again) since the Academy announced their nominations for this year’s Oscars without including a single person of color — and users have taken to social media to post as many memes, GIFs and photos about the issue as they can. One user took Matthew McConaughey‘s chest beat from “The Wolf of Wall Street” and simply photoshopped an Oscar statue into the video. The famous “Danny DeVito, I love your work!” clip from “Mean Girls” was used in response to the actor speaking out on the diversity issue. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced what it referred.

The run up to Empire‘s solid debut last night on Fox didn’t come without any opposition. Its main source of criticism came from 50 Cent, who accused the Lee Daniels-backed series of copying the marketing techniques of the Starz show Power that the rapper executive produces.
50 posted this now-deleted photo on Instagram:
However, after watching last night’s premiere, their stark difference is clear. Empire tells the story of Luscious Lyon (Terrence Howard), a former drug dealer turned music mogul, and the struggle amongst his family for individual power. Meanwhile, Power follows Ghost, a club owner trying to keep his drug-dealing side hustle and his mistress at bay.
When Empire co-star Taraji P. Henson, who plays the Lyon’s fresh-outta-prison matriarch, was asked about 50′s comments, she made this unforgettable comeback:

Julie Walters has warned that fame isn't as attractive as it seems.
Speaking at a Q&A to launch BAFTA's new live strand A Life in Television, Walters suggested that fame has been "misinterpreted as if it's something wonderful".
"I must admit, when people first started saying, 'You were in that show', I thought, 'Cor, look at me!'" she joked.
"It didn't take long for me to realise this isn't a good thing. It's nice. I'm not saying it isn't nice when people say, 'That was great, I love that show', and, 'I love your work'. Of course that's lovely. [But] Michael Caine once said it, didn't he? Someone asked, 'What's it like to be rich and famous?' And he said, 'Well I'd much rather just be rich'."
She added: "People don't realise how precious anonymity is until it's gone. Once it's gone, it's really difficult to go and do things.

Yesterday’s fourth annual The Contenders event at the DGA was a smash hit as 13 studios and distributors, along with their stars and filmmakers, got to show off their awards season slate to an audience heavy with Academy and key Guild voters. And those companies with big Oscar hopes showcased all the usual suspects this year from The Imitation Game to Birdman to Foxcatcher to The Theory Of Everything and on and on with the kinds of films that are usually awards fodder this time of year.
But perhaps the most surprising inclusion was the sudden presence of none other than Chris Rock in the race. Although Chris wasn’t there in person for the large industry crowd (he was busy in NYC boosting Saturday Night Live to its best ratings of the season), his movie Top Five was prominently included in Paramount’s reel right alongside their other upcoming...

“Sakizuke”
Written By: Jeff Vlaming and Bryan Fuller
Directed By: Tim Hunter
Original Airdate: 7 March 2014
In This Episode…
The “mosaic man” victim, Roland Umber, wakes to find himself in this hideous pile of bodies. We later learn that a lifetime of heroin use has given him a very high tolerance - the amount that killed other people was just a good buzz for him. He tears himself away from the bodies he is sewn to - literally. He is so desperate to escape that he pulls and pulls until his flesh is just ripped away from his body. With big, bloody patches of missing flesh, Roland races, naked, from the silo that held him. As he leaves, his captor drives up, and he wastes no time chasing his escaped paint swatch into the corn field. What follows is a tense cat-and-mouse chase, which ends when Roland comes to the edge of a cliff.

I honestly had very little to go one when I added A.J. Edwards’ The Better Angels to my predictions list and the fact that it has been included among the New Frontier offerings means that we’re in for something out of the ordinary, as the section has often challenged conventional form. Produced by Terrence Malick, and filmed in B&W, it features Jason Clarke, Diane Kruger, Brit Marling, Wes Bentley and a newbie actor taking on the role of a young Lincoln. Here is the entire listing of five (plus installation projects), which will include Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s on-going Hit Record project.
The Better Angels / U.S.A. (Director and screenwriter: A.J. Edwards) — Set in the harsh wilderness of Indiana, this is the story of Abraham Lincoln’s youth. It tells of the hardships that shaped him, the tragedy that marked him forever, and the two women who guided him to immortality.

When Sundance announced the films in competition for the 2014 festival yesterday, its organizers noted that they were impressed by the caliber of cinematic artistry — mostly due to technology — that freed up filmmakers to experiment with different genres. No category of the festival is more rooted in genre than Park City at Midnight, the late-night section that specializes in horror and the supernatural, and this year’s slate has several potential breakouts. “The Midnight lineup came together in a way that is about the strongest group we’ve ever had, top to bottom,” says Trevor Groth, Sundance’s director of programming.

Sundance Institute executives announced on December 5 that the festival will feature new work from artist Doug Aitken as well as Klip Collective’s external projections on the Egyptian Theatre.
An expanded New Frontier will showcase installations, performance, transmedia and panel discussion section. Most of the installations will be housed at a new, 5,000-square-foot location at the Gateway in Park City adjacent to Main Street.
Doug Aitken’s The Source (Evolving) will occur at a nearby location along Main Street.
“As human and machine, biological and media experiences blur and hybridise, the distinctions between them are also becoming irrelevant,” said curator of the exhibition and Sundance Film Festival senior programmer Shari Frilot.
“The digital and the organic integrally constitute a new primordial pool. What does creativity and storytelling look like if we revel in this new way of being?”

Norton showed off his self-deprecating side as well as his gift for impressions, including Ian McKellen and two Woodys-- Allen and Harrelson. Much like Bruce Willis's random turn hosting SNL's last episode, Norton showed up with no movies to plug or self-promotion to work into the skits. The actor acknowledged the seeming randomness of this gig with a passable monologue. He says that he was first asked to host in 2000, but he needed 13 years to prepare for the gig to really get into the mind of his future characters. "A lot of my fans, they come up to me, they say, 'I love your work, why don't you do more movies?' I say, 'I'm preparing for Saturday Night Live, give me a break.'" But shameless self-promotion did turn up, as Alec Baldwin...

You might not recognise the face of Doug Jones, but you'll certainly know his work - the 53-year-old actor is best known for his film work with director Guillermo del Toro, including roles as Abe Sapien in the Hellboy movies and as the terrifying Pale Man in Pan's Labyrinth.

Ruth Wilson is about to have a moment.
The 31-year-old British actress -- best known for her work on the television series "Luther" and "The Prisoner" -- stars as Rebecca Reid in Disney's "The Lone Ranger," the film's female lead. What was required of Wilson during the film's nearly 150-day production process was quite demanding. She even had to get thrown from a speeding train onto a speeding horse. Well, sort of.
"I was on a fake horse," Wilson told HuffPost Entertainment. "There was a stuntwoman who did the wide version of the shot and did it properly. We were all amazed by her." Not that the fake horse wasn't terrifying as well. "We were going along on a road rig at 40 miles per hour when we were shooting it, so it felt pretty real," Wilson said.

With his documentary I Love Your Work, filmmaker and artist Jonathan Harris attempts to capture a view of women in the porn industry that we don’t ordinarily see — the very human one. Taking place over 10 connective days and focusing on nine women who work in the lesbian porn industry, the film clocks in at over six hours. Harris’s crew follows each woman for 24 hours, and everything is caught on film; from mundane acts like brushing their teeth and ordering lattes, to actual pornographic photoshoots. It is at once fascinating, and tedious. I Love Your Work is a slow, drawn out process, much different from the instant gratification that porn presents to consumers. This of course, is exactly the point that Harris is trying to make. In fact, the whole process of watching the film is set up very methodically.

No one plays imposing and unsettling quite like Michael Shannon. The looming 6’4″ actor, best known for his characters in Revolutionary Road — for which he was nominated for an Oscar — Take Shelter, and HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, commands attention in every scene he’s ever done, wielding a hollowed-out stare that can even shake audiences seated in the last row of the theater. There’s always a hint of menace behind those unblinking eyes, the potential for something wild and dangerous — even when his character’s intentions are pure.

Daniel Day-Lewis as Vincent Vega? Almost two decades after the release of Quentin Tarantino's game-changing Pulp Fiction, it's impossible to imagine anyone else in the role made famous by John Travolta. But in a new Vanity Fair expose on the making of the 1994 Oscar winner, Travolta's career was so "cold" that producer Harvey Weinstein fought it tooth and nail.
Here are five shocking truths about the making of the movie, taken from the March issue of Vanity Fair, on newsstands in New York and L.A. on January 31 and nationally and on the iPad, Nook, and Kindle on February 5.
Pics: 13 Must-See Movies of 2013
1) Producer Harvey Weinstein was dead-set against giving the role of Vincent Vega to John Travolta and suggested Daniel Day-Lewis, Sean Penn or William Hurt. When Weinstein saw the finished film, he reportedly said facetiously, "I'm so glad I had the idea to cast John Travolta."
2) Samuel L. Jackson was under the impression that the...

Michael Berryman is a name that you might not be familiar with, but believe me; horror fans will definitely know his face. Berryman has such a distinctive appearance due to a genetic condition at birth that prevents him from growing hair, fingernails, sweat glands, or teeth. Whereas some people might call his condition a handicap, Berryman has turned his physical appearance into a career playing bad guys, mutants, monsters, and all sorts of evil characters.
Berryman appeared in the Oscar winning film One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest (1975), but is best known for his role as “Pluto” in Wes Craven’s seminal film, The Hills Have Eyes (1977) and the sequel The Hills Have Eyes Part 2 (1984). Berryman has appeared in over 60 films and a career that has spanned almost 40 years as an actor. Coming up in 2013, Berryman has no less than eight...

Confession time, y'all: I have no idea what the f*ck is going on. This week's American Horror Story: Asylum has had the effect on my wee brain of a Jolt Cola-sponsored 48-hour horror movie marathon held in an operating steel mill. I'm no longer able to discern heroes from villains, the dead from the living, or a fake Boston accent from a real German one.
Asylum, you have finally broken me with these four simple, yet impossibly beautiful, words:
We begin with a bit of background nunsense: two smiling nursing sisters titter about Lilies of the Field as they arrive for their shift through Briarcliff's front doors. I'm half expecting them to punch a clock on the way in as a sheepdog punches himself out. ("Mornin', Sam." "Mornin', Sister.") They arrive in the medical ward, where a very grey, very sweaty Grace (Lizzie Brochere) lies barely conscious under a sheet.

Spike Lee has a fondness for musical consistency. For "He Got Game," the director featured a soundtrack comprised of Public Enemy songs alongside the music compositions of famed composer Aaron Copland. "Red Hook Summer," Lee's latest film, is no different in its structure: Bruce Hornsby provides the film's score, while the soundtrack comes courtesy of rising star Judith Hill, who contributed ten songs to Lee's much ballyhooed return to Brooklyn.
Hill's collaboration with Lee began with the singer's connection to Michael Jackson. Hill performed with Jackson as a back-up singer on the This Is It world tour, and even sang with the pop icon on "I Can't Stop Loving You." (The performance was also featured in the film, "This Is It.") It was after Jackson's death, at a tribute to the late singer in Los Angeles, that Lee came up to Hill with a request.

Who knew that Saul Goodman is the man behind Matt Foley, Motivational Speaker?
Bob Odenkirk stopped by "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" on Friday to promote the newest season of "Breaking Bad," and the two "SNL" alumni shared their mutual respect for the beloved Chris Farley, for whom Odenkirk wrote material when Farley was a cast member and Odenkirk was a writer on the show -- including the classic bit about a man who "lives a van down by the river."
The two men created that character when they were at Chicago's famed Second City, and in this interview, it's clear that Odenkirk misses Farley deeply.
"Chris was very genuine," Odenkirk said of the larger-than-life funnyman, who passed away in 1997. "A lot of people in showbiz do that, and they're faking it. 'Oh, I love your work.' 'Really? You've seen my huge movies? They've only made a couple billion,...

In less than two weeks, on July 15, we’ll be able to talk about the first episode of the final season of AMC’s Breaking Bad or as we like to call it, “the best damn show on television” where meth cooks Walter White (Bryan Cranston) and Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) have no one to answer to. Meanwhile at home, Walter’s wife, Skylar (Anna Gunn) now knows about her husband’s secret life and we can expect Walter’s brother-in-law, DEA Agent Hank Schrader (Dean Norris) is going to feel like he’s never been closer to the biggest and baddest meth producers in the Southwest after the events of the Season 4 finale.
Observing all of the events that have transpired is Skylar’s sister, and Hank’s wife, Marie, played by Betsy Brandt who has a strong connection to two of the forces pulling at Walter’s life,...

Chicago – You may not know Drew Goddard’s name but you almost certainly know his work. Or at least you should. He’s one of the most influential and important TV writers of the last several years on key episodes of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Angel,” “Alias,” and “Lost.” He co-wrote the fantastic new horror thriller “The Cabin in the Woods” with the legendary Joss Whedon and the film serves as his stellar directorial debut (he also wrote “Cloverfield” for you non-tv folk).
The smart, fun, energizing “The Cabin in the Woods” is one of the best horror films in years, something we’ll get into in more depth with our review later this week but let’s start with a wonderful interview with the creative man behind it. Every once in awhile, an interview feels shorter than a journalist wishes it had been — I could have spoken to Mr.

Though the starlets walking the red carpet at Essence magazine’s Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon brought plenty of the previously promised pre-Oscar glam, it was solidarity and sisterly support that took center stage at the main event. ”It’s really just a girl power luncheon,” said former Friday Night Lights star Jurnee Smollett. “It’s an opportunity for all of us to celebrate each other, and give each other a bunch of hugs. We say, ‘I love your work, continue what you’re doing, and I’m supporting you.’”

At this week’s second UK premiere* for A Dangerous Method, we spoke to Viggo Mortenson about the attraction of working with David Cronenberg. He explained,
“He makes what can sometimes be a very trying or difficult job, or emotionally demanding, he makes easy and fun. He never loses sight of the fact that, after all it’s play, it’s make believe. It should be fun, there’s no reason for it not to be, and he helps you feel that way too. There’s a lot of directors – I would say, more often than not, directors forget that. They feel the pressure, or they take themselves or what they’re doing too seriously.”
When asked whether he was referring to directors he has worked with he continued,

ABC brought us a special holiday edition with 'Winter Wipeout: Deck the Balls' (Thu., 8Pm Et on ABC). But it was more than just a teaser for the new season, kicking off in January. It was an opportunity to introduce the new face on the team. The presenter in the field with the contestants is Vanessa Lachey, replacing Jill Wagner, who had served in that role since the first episode.
John Anderson introduced her as a present for co-host John Henson, while Lachey wasted no time getting her digs in. "I'm a huge fan of both of you," she said. "Anderson, I love your work on Espn. And Henson, your dad invented the Muppets, right?"
She brought a lot of the same quirky personality that made her a fan-favorite on 'Trl' on MTV, like joining a contestant in becoming a human kazoo.

Where was I last week?
