    Great, even on PS

I greatly enjoyed this game on Playststion, even though there are some glitches and it doesn't feel totally perfect, but it's perfect for anyone who loves arcade or fighting games. The characters are original and the graphics are very crisp and clean. Many have been famous and are in other games. The most famous have to be Morrigan, Felicia, Talbain, and Jedah. It's enjoyable with 2 people, even if one has never played, and the cast of 22 makes for lots of time spent mastering different characters. It's great to pick-up-and-play and as you learn more combos it gets even better. I recommend this game to anyone who loves fighters..

    Superb Fighting Game

The third of its series, Darkstalkers 3 is a great fighting game. There are more special moves and some creative stage design. The new characters are good but I would have preferred if there were more and they covered the monsters more obviously (What is Jedah supposed to be? A grim reaper-like figure?). In terms of the versions, I'd recommend the Japanese Sega Saturn one with the 4MB cart. It arcade perfect that way. Speaking of which, the game is also available as a ROM for the arcade emulater M.A.M.E. Both are under the name "Vampire Savior", the Japanese title I believe. An inferior Sony Playstation version also exists but I say that the game is meant to be played as the arcade version made it. Whichever way you choose, you will not be disappointed.

    • Trivia
Due to potential limited memory issues, only the classic characters Huitzil, Pyron, and Donovan Baine were excluded from this game. However they would be included in the later upgraded dual release of Vampire Hunter 2: Darkstalkers' Revenge (1997) and Vampire Savior 2: The Lord of Vampire (1997) (though Baby Bonnie Hood, Lilith Aensland, Q-Bee, and Jedah Doma were absent from the former and J. Talbain, Sasquatch, and Rikuo were absent from the latter) as well as the later home console release versions of both this game and Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower (2004) that would use all 18 characters.

Lord Raptor/Zabel Zarock: Everyone has to die sometime! I just speed it up for them!

    • Alternate versions
There was some alterings in the game when it got translated from Japanese to English. The blood was turned into a "white" liquid and the sight of Morrigan in a transparent robe & thong & her nipples were not showing during Lillith Aensland's ending. And there was some inexplicable name changes such as Lei-lei=Hsien-Ko, Zabel Zabrock=Lord Raptor.. However in Capcom Fighting Collection (2022), the edited gore can be turned on/off, and the game can be played in English or Japanese.
