A superficial, rambling road movie without particular finesse or consistency

Not leaden as a road movie but simply aimless and lightweight, with its three unlike "brothers" searching for their adoptive father and themselves while traveling on a wild goose chase after a statuette whose point is soon forgotten. Romain Duris' presence and a mixture of young men in Spain: yes, you think of "L'Auberge Espagole." But "Pas si grave" has none of the verve, momentum, or international appeal of Klapisch's franchise. As critics have commented, Rapp's effort lacks finesse and consistency. The cross-dressing captain, the beautiful girl who sleeps around, the retired matador, the military band leader who runs things like an opera -- these aren't strong enough elements to hold things together. The main actors are appealing, especially Duris and Boujlila, but they don't interact in any very memorable way. Despite appealing actors and colorful settings, nobody is at their best in this movie, and its failure to get widespread international distribution isn't hard to fathom.

Watched on a French DVD made only for local consumption.

MOVIE > ... we have nice shoots of Leonor * (dvd)

I think i discovered Leonor with her Cleopatra TV movie. As Romain Duris is my favorite living french actor, that explains why i picked this movie.

However, it is not that great: All the cast is native but speaks in French (congratulations!) but I find their accent very hard to understand. The break-in is funny but there is too much scenes of traveling. The brotherhood brings some emotion but it isn't a climax.

Anyway, the story happens in Spain, so it's a good sunny movie for rainy days. And for sure, Leonor charm is overwhelming: as a pure Latina, she can face all this brothers and ice on the cake, she shows everything !!!

    North meets South

A nice little picture full of sunshine and light hearted fun. Do not look for special effects or super heroes, this picture is about normal people, about being the same by being different.

Pablo sends his three adoptive sons on a mission to Spain: bring back the Madonna he remembers from his youth. Something that proves a bit trickier than expected once there. Their voyage is as much about getting to understand their father's past as it is getting to grips with their own (unknown) past and dealing with their present life. A quest that will bring together people from the past and present and forge new friendships and love.

A witty film with a story like they can still make them on the old continent, with a nice feel-good factor and funky soundtrack.
