This brief film is, as with nearly all of Bill Forsyth's works, a real gem. It's both faithful to the the source material as written by George Mackay Brown as well as a step beyond, with Forsyth's screenplay adding several brushes that nicely flesh out the overall production. Further, superlative acting and exemplary landscapes perform a terrific service in setting an ideal mood for the work, yet another overall wonder from this most beguiling of film directors. It's an absolute shame that the uniquely-talented Forsyth essentially walked away from the cinema after his less than satisfying experiences in Hollywood in the 1980s & 1990s. Regardless, this film can be located online so don't hesitate to catch it.
