The freshness of the camera work

A two-part offering, with King Baggot in the leading role. It tells a Kentucky mountain story with suggestions of "The Trail of the Lonesome Pine," but with a different development. There is a clearly worked out plot and it holds well, especially in the more romantic second part after King Baggot, the disappointed millionaire who has come to the mountains, meets June (Violet Mercereau). The climax follows an exciting attack of moonshiners upon him, and this the producer has handled with originality and speedily; it is exciting. One of the first things noticeable in the picture is the freshness of the camera work and the interesting, unhackneyed angle from which the scenes were taken. The photography is not perfect in all the exteriors, but is fair. An acceptable feature. - The Moving Picture World, August 2, 1913
