Sort of like "Monty Python" but with only Graham Chapman and some other blokes.

"Out of the Trees" is a TV special written by Graham Chapman, Douglas Adams, and Bernard McKenna. It also stars Chapman and a variety of actors most Americans (like me) don't recognize.

The program plays much like an episode of "Monty Python's Flying Circus"...minus the usual cast except for Chapman. Its style is quite similar and has a strange stream of consciousness. Much of the episode consists of two skits which come and go...and a few others in between. One is a reworking of the 'Four Yorkshiremen' skit from "At Last the 1948 Show"...which was later performed on "Monty Python Live at the Hollywood Bowl". The other is one about Genghis Khan and his ennui.

While the show is very strange, it lacks something that made "Monty Python" successful...laughs. It's of mild interest to Python fans but otherwise it's one that simply is strange but without punchlines.

The master tapes of the show were wiped at some point, as was common for videotaped shows of that era. However, Graham Chapman owned an off-air recording in his personal archive, which was restored and shown in 2006 as part of the National Film Theatre's "Missing Believed Wiped" event.
