I don't remember ever having so much fun with a side-scroller (Video Game)

Super Mario Advance is the re-make some really old Mario game that was released on the previous consoles.

It was my first Gameboy Advance game, and I'm glad that I chose it.

The game is simple, really. It's a 2-D game with four different playable characters: Mario, Luigi, Peach and Toad. They each have different abilities and stats. It's been a cliché to say that the main character is the best. In this situation, it's not only cliché, but untrue. (Nintendo Magazine lied!) The best character is probably Peach, because she can float if you hold A while in mid-air. Toad may be one of the best too.

The game play is a bit different from most side-scrolling Mario games. When you jump on enemies, you don't kill them. However, you can throw them at other enemies. You can also pick up vegetables and throw those too.

The level of variety is pretty good. It never gets too repetitive. The difference in landscapes and enemies do have their variation, and the game hardly gets old.

The boss fights are very challenging, and engagingly fun. If you are not fighting that pink dinosaur (I forgot her name.) at the end of the level, you are probably fighting a boss. Some require a strategy. Others require skill alone. Each boss usually takes three hits to kill them.

The graphics are at the top of their game. Yes, they're very simple, but colorful and easy on the eyes. Each picture is clear and visible.

The sound is amazing for a Gameboy Advance game. Every spoken word is clear and audible, instead of just the random sounds most games have. One really weird thing is that the bosses say something right before you fight them. I remember one saying "Come closer, if you want to get...toasted."

Somehow, with the difficulty level, variety and everything else in the game: it emerges fun. I don't know how to put it, but it's just a great game.

I think it is the best of the Super Mario Advance series so far. It's much better than 2 and 4.

    9/10
