"Don't you see, child, we all have our sin!" Totally nuts, eh? Indican Pictures has released an official trailer for an indie horror thriller titled Sin Eater, from filmmaker Carmelo Chimera making his feature debut. This hasn't shown up anywhere else yet and is arriving directly to VOD in March. When a woman on the run from her past suffers a terrifying injury, she becomes stranded in a town with a dark secret. As the bizarre phenomena intensify and with no one to trust, she'll have to face her inner demons before a real one takes her soul. The film has a crazy twist where this girl wakes up with her jaw wired shut. Freaky. It stars Jessie Nerud as Christine, with Bill Moseley, Danny Bohnen, Scotty Bohnen, and Scott Moore. This looks like a cult thriller mashed up with religious horror, which is almost too scary. Check out the footage below.

In today’s film news roundup, Nik Dodani makes a script deal, Sony shifts dates for “Miss Bala” and “Escape Room” and Jake Manley books two roles.
Script Deal
Nik Dodani, who stars on “Murphy Brown” and “Atypical,” will write the script for a movie version of “Blue Boy,” based on Rakesh Satyal’s coming of age story, Variety has learned exclusively.
The Lambda Literary Award-winning novel follows the transformation of Kiran Sharma, a boisterous 12-year-old boy from Cincinnati, as he attempts to go from a social outcast to local god through his school’s annual talent show. Taking place against the backdrop of the early ‘90s, Satyal’s debut novel tackles adolescence, family drama, and grade school politics from the perspective of an Indian-American pre-teen.
“Kiran Sharma is a mischievous little git who thinks he’s the center of his own ridiculous universe. I’ve never related to a character more,...

In the last two weeks, Netflix has renewed four original series: “Busted!,” the Korean detective series, earned a Season 2 pickup; “The Rain,” a Danish drama, also snagged a second season; “3%,” the hit Brazilian dystopian series, landed a Season 3 renewal; and even “13 Reasons Why” got another controversial extension for a third season.
So where’s the order for “Dear White People” Season 3?
It took just over a month (33 days) for “3%” to get renewed, while “13 Reasons Why” got scooped up after only 19 days. “The Rain” and “Busted!” premiered the same day as “Dear White People” Season 2, and both got the call for additional episodes before May came to a close.
Now, not all television is created equally. Each of these series is very different from the others, and it goes without saying that not every deserving TV show gets renewed. But with Netflix, there’s no telling what’s a hit and...

An unexpected side effect of the recently lowered barrier to entry into game development is that it dilutes the amount of infamy available for individual titles. While there were plenty of bad games in the pre-App Store and pre-Greenlight eras, the true disasters are known far and wide for their lack of quality alone. These days, true disasters are everywhere, and externalities like dishonest or litigious developers are required to leave the kind of impression that Superman 64 left just by existing. Take Past Cure, for example. It’s a terrible game that will disappoint anyone drawn in by its striking screenshots and somewhat promising description, but it will be immediately forgotten, because it’s at least exactly what was advertised, albeit the worst possible form of it.
If I had to pin down the root cause of the game’s woes, I’d point to its minimal understanding of its own identity.

Director Brian Helgeland’s Legend (2015) tells the based-on true story of Ronald and Reggie Kray: twins (both played by Tom Hardy), East End boys, racketeers, murderers, icons. The Krays were shaped during the 1960s, a post World War II boom for England. They came to symbolise the smartly dressed gangster for a new youth-orientated generation. They had money and they wanted to flaunt it – and that meant suits and a lot of jewellery.
Costume designer for Legend, Caroline Harris, boasting over 20 years experience in both film and television with credits such as Mr Nice (2010), Red Riding (2009) and Fleming (2014), here chats exclusively to Clothes on Film about her work on the project:
Legend is not set during the ‘swinging sixties’; there is still an air of long-established formality present, especially in nightclubs in casinos.
How did you approach your overall representation of the 1960s?
The 1960s was an entire decade and fashion changed and developed throughout.

Tom Hardy is fab, but this is GoodFellas-lite, depicting violent sociopaths as glamorous, even amusing, and lacking all understanding of what made them tick. I’m “biast” (pro): love Tom Hardy
I’m “biast” (con): nothing

Tom Hardy is Ronnie Kray. And Tom Hardy is Reggie Kray. And Tom Hardy (London Road, Mad Max: Fury Road) is the best — and pretty much the only — reason to check out this rather shockingly laudatory crime thriller based on the life and, er work of two of the most notorious gangsters London has ever borne witness to. As both of the identical Kray twins, Hardy is a wonder, carrying his body, comporting his face, and subtly shifting his voice in ways that never leave the viewer in any doubt as to which brother he is...

Shannyn Sossamon became something of an "It Girl" in the early noughties with roles in films including "A Knight's Tale," "40 Days and 40 Nights," the Bret Easton Ellis adaptation "Rules of Attraction" and "The Order" (her second and final film with the late Heath Ledger, whom she called "a very special spirit" but was otherwise reticent to talk about in a short-form interview), but after giving birth to her son Audio in 2003 she all but disappeared from the spotlight. Since then, Sossamon has popped up in everything from well-received indies ("Wristcutters: A Love Story") to big, star-studded Hollywood com-coms ("The Holiday") to TV series (the cult single-season CBS vampire drama "Moonlight"), though recently her resume is heavy on so-called "genre" work, from the 2008 J-horror remake "One Missed Call" to the 2011 post-apocalyptic thriller "The Day" to this year's buzzy summer series "Wayward Pines" and now "Sinister 2," the sequel to the sleeper...

There was initially a lot of promise for writer turned director Brian Helgeland’s career, his directorial debut was the entertaining 1999 adaptation of the Donald E. Westlake (aka Richard Stark) novel The Hunter, which was titled Payback for his version. Following that up with a pair of Heath Ledger titles, A Knight’s Tale and the doomed The Order, we didn’t see Helgeland get in the director’s seat again until 2013 with 42. He’s sticking with based on true story stuff with this resurrection of the notorious Kray Bros., the subject of an enjoyable Peter Medak film from 1990, The Krays. Here, we have Tom Hardy playing the twin gangsters, one of the few performers that can supersede the shortcomings of Helgeland and co-star Emily Browning to nab a slot on our list (we’re also curious as to the absence of Violet Kray,...

No one really wanted Scary Movie 5. Seven years ago audiences turned out to give Scary Movie 4, what easily should have been the last one, a decent send off with a very respectable $40 million opening and a domestic total of $90 million. But some folks don't know when to let it go and audiences showed just how last decade the franshise is. The movie launched to the tune of $15 million, taking a distant second place at this weekends box office and setting a record low for the series, far below what most of the other Scary Movies entries enjoyed. We haven't seen Brian Helgeland behind the lens since his thriller The Order tanked almost ten years ago. But the director of A Knights Tale discovered his directorial second wind with the historical drama 42, the number one movie this weekend. The movie recounts the tumultuous events surrounding the signing of Jackie Robinson,...

Will the just-released 42 have the most successful opening weekend for a baseball movie? Writer-director Brian Helgeland's 42, which features Chadwick Boseman as baseball player Jackie Robinson and veteran Harrison Ford, whose credits range from The Conversation and Star Wars in the 1970s to the more recent Cowboys & Aliens, debuted with an estimated $9.1 million at 3,003 locations this past Friday, April 12, as per studio figures found on the web site Box Office Mojo. (Almost) undeboutedly, 42 will end up grossing between $25 million and $26 million by Sunday evening. If that does indeed happen, the film will boast the best debut weekend ever for a movie about baseball -- well, sort of. Pictured above: Ford, looking remarkably different under heavy makeup, plays Brooklyn Dodgers' team executive Branch Rickey in Helgeland's movie. Baseball Biopic Surpassing Expectations: Will Easily Top Domestic B.O. Chart This Weekend Written and directed by Academy Award winner Brian Helgeland (L.A. The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and it’s time to crack open the windows after so many long months. Ah, springtime, when a young man’s (and many not so young) thoughts turn to … baseball. Well, it turns out that many in Hollywood have the old “horse-hide” on the brain too. This favorite American pastime has graced the big screen many times from light comedies such as Alibi Ike and Major League to heavy dramas like Bang The Drum Slowly. One classic flick, The Natural, could be classified a Fantasy allegory while another, Bull Durham, is a sexy bedroom romp. Of course, film makers have chosen to tell several real-life stories of the diamond with Pride Of The Yankees (Lou Gehrig’s tale), a couple of Babe Ruth biopics, and the lady players of World War II in A League Of Their Own. Now Brian Helgeland (The Order...

In an ideal world, Australian actor Heath Ledger would have been celebrating his thirty-third birthday today. Heartbreakingly, he isn't here for it: the actor passed away from an accidental prescription drugs overdose just over four years ago, on January 22, 2008. At the time, the actor was shooting Terry Gilliam's "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus," and the director managed to finish the film with Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and Jude Law paying tribute to the late actor by joining the production.

Brian Helgeland has been in the screenwriting business for a while, having written some great movies (L.A. Confidential, A Knight's Tale, Man On Fire) and some not so great movies (The Order, Robin Hood). And now his son Martin has entered the writing game, with a spec script called Slayer that has been picked up by Legendary Pictures. In a curious case of art reflecting life (i.e. the son taking up the father's mantle), Slayer "is described as a modern-day story...

Harrison Ford and relative newcomer Chadwick Boseman are set to star in Legendary Pictures’ Jackie Robinson biopic. Brian Helgeland wrote the script and will direct the movie, titled 42.
Ford will play Branch Rickey, President and manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947 when he broke the “color barrier” by signing Robinson as the first African-American in Major League baseball. Deadline reported his offer this week and Legendary sent a press release blitz Friday confirming his casting. Robert Redford had long been attached to the role.
30-year-old Boseman, whose resume consists of mostly bit television parts until now, will play the second baseman. Robinson won the inaugural Rookie of the Year award that year, the National League Mvp two years later, a world series title in 1955 and, in 1962, he was inducted in the Hall of Fame. Mlb retired his number, 42, across all teams in 1997.

Yeah, I can see it. Harrison Ford is the first choice to play Brooklyn Dodgers general manager Branch Rickey in the Jackie Robinson biopic 42, directed by Brian Helgeland [Deadline]. The film will tell the story of Robinson, the first African-American integrated into Major League Baseball, and Rickey, who trailed-blazed against the old guard of racism owners and managers.
For as long as anyone can remember, this project has been in place in some form, with Robert Redford long the first choice to play Rickey.
Now Redford’s 75 years old. Ford’s 69 years young. Alright, so not that big an age difference but the former does look considerably older than the latter. Legendary Pictures is producing the picture, with no word yet on who’ll be cast in the role of Robinson. It’s an interesting choice for Helgeland, a man who’s name isn’t househeld but perhaps should be. He...

Robert Redford is going back to baseball again. The “Natural” star has signed on to an untitled film by Legendary Pictures involving the historical drama about the Brooklyn Dodgers executive Branch Rickey and baseball player Jackie Robinson. Rickey was known for breaking Major League Baseball’s color barrier by signing the league’s first African-American player Jackie Robinson. Brian Helgeland will write and direct the film. Helgeland wrote the screenplays 2010’s “Robin Hood,” “Man on Fire,” “Mystic River,” and “A Knight’s Tale.” His last directorial film was with 2003’s “The Order.” According to the Los Angeles Times, the untitled film will “look less at the specifics of Jackie Robinson breaking baseball’s color barrier and more at the complex relationship between Rickey, who scholars believed integrated baseball for reasons of both idealism and economics, and Robinson, the second baseman who faced tremendous discrimination when he signed with the Dodgers...

Q: After seeing Blaine chase Kurt around the room in Glee’s “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” Christmas episode number, I said to my close friend/ex that I would "let Blaine chase me around that room for days on end," and his response was, "See, I'm more of the person who'd be doing the chasing." I'm 5' 9'' and 130 lbs, and more than one person has referred to me as a "twink" (a word which I find to be derogatory and demeaning). What confuses me is that my instinct to be chased by Blaine does not follow with him dominating me, but the complete opposite. I am always attracted to the most butch, athletic, tall, hyper-masculine guys around me because I want to ravish them. Is that weird?...

20th Century Fox is one of the most frustrating companies to deal with when it comes to Blu-ray. When it comes to their big releases, they do great work, but when it comes to catalog, it’s hard to say or know what you’re going to get. It’s great that they’re putting a lot of catalog out – like Warner Brothers they seem invested in the format – but if you already have the film on DVD, you may have to hold your old copy if you want the supplements. The 1978 remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Return of the Living Dead, the 2005 remake of The Amityville Horror and The Order all come with varying degrees of their original supplements on Blu-ray. And my review of this quartet of Blu-rays follows after the jump
Phillip Kaufman’s Invasion of the Body Snatchers is easily the best of the lot.

After a very quiet post-Labor Day weekend for new movies, where Resident Evil: Afterlife (review) was the only major film released widely (and owned the box office), this week's new horror DVD titles aren't aplenty either.
But we do have television shows from the recent season and re-releases of older titles all trying to chase the Blu(-ray) dollar.
Fringe: The Complete Second Season
Directed by Various
While "Fringe" is not strictly horror per se, the sense of fear and suspense that greets us week after week should qualify for some mention. They have enough quality freaks of the week and bloodshed to satisfy the fiends in us. This is the acting job that Leonard Nimoy is retiring from! "Fringe" stars Anna Torv, Joshua Jackson, John Noble, Lance Reddick, Blair Brown and Jasika Nicole.

We have a brand new exclusive clip from The Order, which will be released on Blu-ray for the first time September 14. Click below to watch this scene, which features Shannyn Sossamon trying to convince Heath Ledger to let her go to Rome:
The Order: Promise
After the head of his order of priests dies, Alex Bernier (Heath Ledger), is sent to Rome to investigate the mysterious circumstances surrounding the death. The body bears strange marks on the chest that may be the sign of a Sin Eater, a renegade who offers absolution, last rites and a path to heaven outside the jurisdiction of the Catholic Church. Alex enlists the aid of an old comrade Father Thomas (Mark Addy) and of a troubled artist (Shannyn Sossamon) for whom he once performed an exorcism, only to find himself plunged into a mystery that brings him to the very brink of hell.

The theatrical trailer for the long-delayed vampire action movie Priest is finally out, and, in my opinion, it’s sufficient proof that this movie will likely not be worth the long wait – though that’s not to say that the final product looks totally bad.
Adapted from the graphic novel of the same name by Min-Woo Hyung, Priest stars Paul Bettany as an exiled priest who must save a young girl from the clutches of the vampires.
You might read that explanation and think you’re in for a new version of the Dracula mythology – or perhaps another version of The Order, that moody and brooding Heath Ledger movie about a Priest who goes around combating evil forces. However, Priest is directed by Scott Charles Stewart, who also worked with Bettany on the religious-themed action/horror flick…

John C. Reilly as a vampire? I thought: How can that not be funny? And it is funny, in a gentler, more unassuming way than you might expect from a movie by screenwriters Paul Weitz and Brian Helgeland, who’ve collectively given us dark and brooding (Helgeland’s The Order and Mystic River) or sharp and satirical (Weitz’s American Dreamz and About a Boy) but never anything so modest in scope and ambition as this inoffensive and subsequently bland fantasy. Bland fantasy? That’s just sad.

Forget about the 1974 movie of the same name. I’m not putting it down: I’m saying, Whether you’ve seen it or not, whether you like it or not, doesn’t matter. This nominal remake (same title, same premise, mega-updated for 21st-century NYC and 21st-century movies)? It’s good. Damn good. Like this good: I’ve been waiting for a Die Hard movie to actually come close to approximating the spectacular cinematic experience that Die Hard was more than 20 years back, and the 2009 Taking of Pelham 123 is the first movie to get real close to that. It’s always a question when it comes to remakes: Why remake this particular movie, and why remake it now? And director Tony Scott (Deja Vu, Domino) and screenwriter Brian Helgeland (Man on Fire , The Order) -- working from the same novel by John Godey [Amazon U.S.] [Amazon U.K.] that was the basis for the first film...

To continue honoring and celebrating his memory, Entertainment Weekly made Heath its cover story with quotes and highlights about his life from the people that worked closely with the actor and grew to know and love him over the years. Here are a few highlights from the touching article: Gil Junger, director, 10 Things I Hate About You: "Heath came in to read, and he exuded a sexuality so uncommon for a man of that age. It feels completely appropriate in a year of incredible financial turmoil, particularly in the independent film sector, that so many good movies were made about people teetering on the edge of economic extinction. My own list features two such films, without even getting around to "Slumdog Millionaire," "Frozen River" or the small but immensely powerful "Shotgun Stories." Movie stars were feeling the pinch, too: in the semiautobiographical "Jcvd," audiences saw faded action hero Jean-Claude Van Damme resorting to begging his agent for money to pay for his divorce.
Stars, and studios too. Even before the bottom fell out of the economy, Hollywood studios were beginning to shutter their indie divisions; Paramount eliminated Vantage, Warner Brothers closed Picturehouse and Warner Independent and absorbed New Line. It wasn't much better for smaller distributors: David O. Russell's upcoming "Nailed" was in the news all summer because its production kept...

Sean Penn continues to battle with Mickey Rourke for the Best Actor slot and even tied in San Francisco as they just couldn't make up their minds and offered up another tie. Heath Ledger took Best Supporting Actor on all four lists and Kate Winslet gets a bit of love for Revolutionary Road from the St. Louis crowd and for The Reader...
