An interesting view of MLK Jr's young life.

It was back in 1984 when I first met Rand Hopkins and saw this story presented as a play at the Atlanta Chirldren's Theatre. Two years later, the film came out on WSB-TV Channel 2 in Atlanta. The young man who played MLK Jr, Fred Perrin, later became one of my students at the Davidson Fine Arts School in Augusta, GA.

The film is an interesting look at the life of a young MLK Jr, based on interviews Rand made with his sister. He wasn't a perfect youngster...he was prankish at times.

The cast is made of mostly Atlanta actors, notably Muriel Moore as a customer at the shoe shop where MLK and Daddy King try to buy shoes, but were turned away.

I would recommend this film to any school teacher teaching about the life of MLK. It's a pretty good film.

Rand is gone now, but I would like to see his theatrical play presented again. Perhaps the executor of his estate or Cox Communications will allow this to happen.
